When William McVea announced that he wanted to move from Oakbrook, Illinois to live along the Douglas lakeshore year-round, his wife told him she wouldn't move unless he built her "a real house...a Chicago-style house." So in 1939, the McVea's built this classic colonial on Lakeshore Drive in Douglas, Michigan.
This historic home offers a gracious floor plan that includes four bedrooms and two baths; a gourmet kitchen with stainless steel appliances (side-by-side refrigerator with ice and water in the door, duel-fuel professional style range [5-burner gas cooktop; two electric ovens], microwave oven, dishwasher, and disposal); washer/dryer; a great sun porch and deck overlooking the large backyard; walking distance to the Douglas Beach and a few minutes drive to Saugatuck’s Oval Beach. The house is furnished with a combination of antiques, vintage, and new classic “beach house” furnishings and includes linens (bedding; bath and kitchen towels). $2500/week (possible discount for multiple-week rentals) June/July/August,
plus 6% State of Michigan tax
A $500 security deposit is required, which will be mailed back to
you within 30 days after your departure, providing there are
no damages, excessive cleaning charges or long distance
telephone charges.
Rate reduction and shorter stays accommodated during the off season
(September through May)
