Peaceful, Calm and Serene!

Date of Stay: 10/19/11 Review Submitted: 11/26/11

DH and I spent the night here on our "around the island" drive. We drove south from Kona and after a long day of sightseeing we were so happy to arrive at this beautiful property. It was dark by the time we arrived, but inside everything was exactly as described and the pictures are spot on. I had forgotten about the hot tub, and found it was just what I needed to end the perfect day. Woke up the next morning wishing we could spend several days here. We were right there in the middle of their coffee orchard, with the birds singing and playing. We were visited by a neighbors dog which was nice as we were missing our own. We enjoyed the special touches of upscale shampoo, soap etc; the wonderful coffee and fruit provided by the owners and most of all the screened porch! Be sure to bring any food with you, (which the owner let us know ahead of time) as there isn't much nearby!

Perfect studio !

We absolutely loved our stay at this studio. It was the best place we've stayed at during our vacation !! The place looked brand new, exactly like in the pictures and was extremely clean. I loved the screened lanai, we could leave the doors open at all time and having a hot tub was just great ! The location is a little remote but at the same time, it's the perfect location for exploring Volcanoes National Park and the Hilo area. The fresh coffee and fresh flowers were a really nice touch. We would stay there again without a doubt !

Wonderful return visit!

We previously spent a month in the coffee cottage and loved it. We were so happy to be able to return for another month recently and had a wonderful experience. When we first stepped inside, it was like nobody had been there since we left - everything was spotless. Everything we had loved before was the same: peaceful, quiet place to relax; great hot tub; nice bed; well-equipped kitchen; and, of course, the views of the coffee orchard from the lanai (best enjoyed while sipping coffee from that orchard). So glad we had the chance to return; highly recommended to anyone who wants to explore the magic of the Big Island. Mahalo to Scott and Silvia for all their hospitality.

We just returned home after spending almost 2 weeks in this wonderful home and this was our third time to stay at Scott and Silvia's place. It's quiet and private, surrounded by coffee trees. We enjoyed sitting in the screened lanai listening to the birds and enjoying the beautiful scenery. The kitchen was perfect for cooking so we only ate 2 meals away from our temporary home. We enjoyed being so close to Volcano National Park, Hilo, and the ocean. The waterfalls in the area are beautiful! Our visits to Volcano National Park were very interesting and we enjoyed doing some hiking and watching the active volcano. The farmers market in Hilo is a great place to purchase homemade food, fresh fruit, and vegetables for very reasonable prices. We had such a great time that we are planning another trip to the Big Island within the next 6-12 months and will definitely stay in this delightful home when we return. Mahalo Scott and Silvia

Just came back and can't wait to stay again!

We just came back from a week stay on the island and stayed at the coffee cottage for 3 nights. The place is very bright and modern and very nicely decorated. Bed was very comfortable and everything immaculately clean. There is good range of cooking utensils and very good coffee provided with the stay. The best part was the screened in porch with very comfy chairs and a hottub. It actually gets pretty chilly at night in Jan! Loved having a little coffee orchard in front of the porch. It's a small road from the main highway half way between Hilo and Volcano, which made a perfect base to explore both easily. Loved the place for it's tranquility!

A wonderful month at the coffee cottage

Guest: sfvisitors (San Francisco, USA)
Date of Stay: 09/08/10 Review Submitted: 10/11/10

My wife and I recently stayed in the coffee cottage for a month. We didn't want to leave! Scott and Sylvia are the nicest folks and have thought of every little detail. I could list them here but others have noted as much - I can vouch for the accuracy of those testimonials! Everything was immaculate - and I truly mean that. We really felt as if the place had never been occupied before and, as another guest mentioned, you were almost afraid to touch anything at first...but then you realized it was a very comfortable and welcoming place to stay. The hot tub is great and we thoroughly enjoyed the peace and quiet, not to mention the darkness in the evenings. A real treat, especially for those coming from more developed/populous areas. The location is also worth mentioning, since the cottage is located about halfway between Hilo and Volcano (approx. 20 minutes in either direction). It's also about 25 minutes from Pahoa, 30-45 minutes from the warm ponds, and a very scenic two hour drive to excellent snorkeling spots on the Kona side. I'm only mentioning a few of the attractions because part of the fun when you get here will be finding what's to do - there's plenty! Needless to say, the location is paradoxical: remote enough to relax when you're at home, yet central to everything you'll want to visit. The coffee, by the way, is very good. We enjoyed it while we were there, then sampled some others, and before we left ended up buying from Scott and Sylvia because theirs is better! Overall, can't recommend this place enough, and we're very grateful to have stumbled upon it! We'll be back for sure at some point. Mahalo nui loa to Scott and Sylvia for a wonderful stay.

Hi Scott, I just wanted to say that my husband and I had a fabulous stay at your cottage in July. It was absolutely perfect and immaculate! The scenery in the neighborhood was amazing and so serene. We enjoyed our stay immensely! It was definitely one of our favorite places to stay at and we stayed in the Hyatt, Sheraton, and Marriott hotels during our vacation but by far your was one of the nicest and one of the ones we talk about the most! Thanks again! Sincerely, Starla

Best part of our trip to Hawaii

Guest: cc (San Diego Ca)
Date of Stay: 06/08/10 Review Submitted: 07/18/10

The best, we have been coming to Hawaii for 12 years. This trip we started in Oahu, Maui and both Kona and Hilo area for the first time. We stayed in condo's at all locations, but not knowing we saved the best for last. We rented the coffee cottage and the minute we pulled in to the driveway we had a sense of peace. We opened the door to the most perfect place we could ask for, we even spent 1 full day just sitting on the Lani soaking up the beautiful view of the coffee orchards and drinking the most perfect coffee ever enjoying the cool tradewinds. My husband and I slept in for 4 day in a row something we haven't done for many years, we had great weather during the day and soft rain at night. The cottage was stocked with everything we could ask for, the bed linens was so wonderful it was like a 5 star hotel. We will be back again! Thank you again you made our trip. Cameren C

We had our first taste of Sharky's Coffee at the Hilo Farmers Market on our last visit to Hawaii about 5 years ago. It was simply the best coffee we have ever tasted and have been drinking it ever since. When we learned that there are now cottages at the Sharky's Coffee plantation, we just had to visit. Scott and Sylvia are the most wonderful people. They are very accommodating and make us feel very pampered. Their place is immaculate with all the comforts of home and it is very close to the Volcano national park and black sand beaches. Their jacuzzi is a welcome treat after a long day's hike at the Volcano National Park. We are very happy to have stayed at their place and appreciate their hospitality. We hope to visit their place soon again when we visit Hawaii. We recommend their place very highly and give their place a rating of AAAA++++. Their place is a paradise and we missed it already!

Wow, We stayed at the coffee cottage in June 2009. We came up the driveway and knew that we had stumbled across a real paradise, the orchard was so green and beautiful. We opened the door and discovered what a 5 star cottage would look like. The kitchen had all the modern features with Granite counter tops through out. Then we open the french doors to a wonderful screen in Porch with our own Hot Tub and private outdoor furniture overlooking the coffee orchard. The bed was so wonderful my husband and I overslept for the first time in years. Then the wonderful grown coffee, with the sounds of the rainforest. We felt like we landed in the garden of Eden. Thank you Scott and Silvia you made our first trip to Hawaii unforgettable, plus you have coffee customers for life!!

Aloha...I just spent a month at Scott and Sylvia's place while working on property nearby. You'll have a hard time finding a better place to stay, nicer folks, or finer coffee. Can't wait to get back. Thanks Scott for your help and recommendations on my building project. You saved me a lot of money and problems with your advice. GREAT PLACE! 5-STAR *****

I was lucky enough to get to stay at Scott and Sylvia's property , if you are planning any time on this side of the Big Island this is a must stay. It is located in a quiet neighborhood, just the sounds of nature. I will be staying there on my next visit.

We found out Scott and Silvia had this place and we knew we had to stay there. When we walked in for the first time it was like we were afraid to disturb anything because it was so tidy and clean, it was like we were the first persons to stay there. After our initial WOW, we settled in and found it to be very comfortable and secure. Everything and anything we thought of was already there, from utinsels to having coffee grown right there on the property for our use. They have put so much thought and care into this place, I cannot imagine you should want for anything more, just head to the grocery store, stock the fridge, and you're home! If you like to hear sirens and traffic and rude people in the hallways at all hours, go stay at a hotel. If you like the sounds nature has to offer to lull you to sleep, and getting up and having a cup of coffee on a covered, screened lanai, listening to the birds songs, stay here! You won't beat the price, in fact you won't even come close, and your hosts are wonderful folks who bend over backwards to make you comfortable, we miss them already! Mahalo Scott, Silvia and family, can't wait to see you guys again!

If I could write this commentary for the guidebook 'The Big Island Revealed', this rental would be listed as a 'real gem.' The cottage's layout is spacious and tastefully decorated with a bed as comfortable as The Westin. Sylvia has thought of every amenity possible to make your stay feel like your 'home away from home'. This is an awesome location to explore so many of the Big Island's beautiful treasures. Again, a 'real gem.' P.S. You can't beat the wonderful coffee supplied as part of your stay that Scott and Sylvia grow on location.

This is an excellent place to stay when exploring the Hilo, Puna and Volcano National Park areas. The proximity, especially to the park, allowed for early starts well in advance of the tour buses. Nicely furnished with all the amenities including an extremely comfortable bed. Scott and his family went out of their way to make us feel welcome and comfortable. Had a great visit.

Aloha, I rented this unit for two a 2 night stay. This is a newly built fully furnished rental that is beautifully decorated. It is in a very quiet and serene area and setting. Being able to relax and read is very important to me. I spent a lot of time reading and relaxing on the lanai. The lanai overlooks the rows of coffee plants and it is fully screened to make it as comfortable as possible. The hot tub is a nice touch! And having freshly roasted and ground coffee for me to drink in the mornings was heaven! The temperature during the day was warm and not too hot and at night it was cool. It was a perfect stay in a beautiful place. It just doesn't get any better than this! I rate this place AAA+.

We are going to become part of Scott's family. Ha Ha. The smell of the coffee fresh in the fields, the quite nights all the way down to the Egyptian cotton sheets we felt like Hawaiian Royalty. Thank you Scott and Silvia. Tracy and Linda

I stayed at this beautiful new cottage in May and it was absolutely wonderful making it a dream vacation. Everything was top of the line from the beautiful wood floors, new appliances and granite countertops. They even gave me coffee for my stay grown right on the property and it was the BEST coffee I've ever tasted! The cottage is centrally located to the Volcano Park, black sand beaches, great snorkeling and all the conveniences of Hilo all about 30 minutes away. Another bonus is the owners are some of the nicest people you'll ever meet and full of aloha! The property was very peaceful and private and I could smell the sweet smell of the coffee blossoms while enjoying the hot tub. I'm on this site today to inquire about my next trip to the Hawaiian Coffee Cottages later this summer, I can't wait!
