COULDN'T HAVE BEEN MORE PERFECT!!!!!!

This vacation couldn't have been more perefect. Everything was an absolute breeze. Thank you Marybeth for making this whole process so seamless. The pictures and descriptions do not do this cabin justice. When my boyfriend and I arrived and walked in we were both taken aback. The cabin is so welcoming and cozy. We arrived at night so we actually got to wake up, come downstairs and be surpised by the beautiful views right outside the cabin. Everything we could have possibly needed (beyond the actual groceries) was provided as well as info on the surrounding areas that was very useful. We visited the nearby Amicalola Falls State Park and it was well worth it, beautiful scenery, very enjoyable (strenuous) hikes and friendly people. We also visited quaint towns like Dahlonega, and Blue Ridge as well as the Mercier Orchards which I would highly reccomend. After full days of hiking and shopping, my favorite thing was being able to come "home" to our quiet cabin and put a fire in the fireplace and recap our days events. We also had dinner on the back patio overlooking the mountains with another little fire going in the outdoor fire pit and had the pleasant slightly creepy surprise of hearing coyotes howling back and forth! We saw two deer one day as we left the resort as well. Well needless to say when our vacation was over we were both very sad to leave. We both work at a hospital and were desperately looking for some relaxation and rejuvenation and we found that and so much more. Thank you again for sharing your cabin with us. We will definitely be coming back! Chase and Amanda Riverview,Fl

What a wonderful hidden gem in the mountains! We arrived Friday night after dark so we were unnaware of what a stunning view awaited us the next morning! Everything was just as the pictures show, except the view because pictures just wont do it justice. It was amazing! The home was fully stocked with all the cooking utensils needed, firewood, even down to the sticks for roasting marshmellows over the fire pit! We saw lots of wild turkeys walking down the road and through the woods & even heard coyotes and owls at night while sitting out by the fire. We really enjoyed our stay, it just wasnt long enough. Cant wait to go back! Mary Beth was a pleasure to deal with & we will definately rent from again! Oh, and our chihuahua, Bella, really loved it too! Thanks for allowing us to be able to take our four legged baby with us! Steve & Jennifer McFarland Phenix City, AL

Beyond a 5-Star Stay

Guest: April
Date of Stay: 10/05/11 Review Submitted: 10/24/11

Let me begin my review by stating that Mary Beth and her family cut their vacation short in order for me and my family to get a couple of days at their 'cabin'. I say 'cabin' because we have stayed at many places in the North Georgia mountains over the years, and have yet to find one that we would return to...until now. This place is no 'cabin'....it is a home away from home. It has all of the comforts and conveniences of a home - the furnishings were amazing...and when I say that we are SUPER picky about cleanliness, I'm putting it mildly...this place was emaculate! From top to bottom - inside and out - it was extremely clean and well maintained. My boys loved the hammocks....and we all loved the firepit, where we roasted plenty of marshmallows. We never saw another person while we were there. We drove to the Trout Stream where the boys played, skipped rocks, and even swam (freezing water)...it was absolutely beautiful. It's only a 5 minute drive within the community. There is no doubt that we'll return. Mary Beth made the process easy....she was very gracious in booking, and even followed up with a thank-you card (who does that anymore?!).Thank you, thank you, thank you for letting us stay at your Mountain Escape. It was exactly what we needed!!

Mary Beth... Words can't describe how beautiful my experience was at your "cabin" but I will do my best. First of all, I was skepticle about renting from the internet for fear of getting scammed. Let me put your mind at ease, everything couldn't have gone more smoothly from my 1st contact with Mary Beth to the last so I thank you for instilling a little faith, hope and trust in the kindness of strangers. This "cabin", and I put that in quotations because in my opinion, is the most spectacular home away from home that I've ever been in. My boyfriend and I were the lucky occupants on Labor Day weekend. I surprised him with renting this "cabin" hoping that it would knock him off his feet upon driving up and seeing our get away for 2 days. He was floored!! And it wasn't by tripping over his adorable weiner dogs either...haha! We were awestruck at the beauty and serenity of our surroundings. We only wish that we had more than 2 days to experience the comforts of this home and the surrounding wilderness. On our 1st night, we spent time on the patio sipping libatiins, laughing and joking around while barbequing steaks. I fell more in love with him that night if that's possible. When all was quiet, we heard a trio of owls in the trees embracing us. Of course we had to get our two hoots in so we hooted back :). Sunday we went to Six Flags over Georgia in Atlanta to have more fun! It's only an hour drive which isn't far in my mind. The Superman ride was the best ride and we rode it twice with the flash pass as we did with most of the rides. Well worth the money btw! Driving back that night, we saw a couple mama deer and doe on the side of the road forraging. I love nature and feel fortunate to have seen and experienced what life has to offer away from the big city. When we arrived back "home", we made a fire even though it was 68°'s. There's something to said about ambience. Our departing mornin we woke up to rain and mysticle mist in the hills beyond, made an delicious steak omelette and read wonderful stories written by previous guests in the journal on the coffee table, then contibuted our thoughts hoping future guests would read and appreciate their time in this mountaneous Eden. This leads me to the title of my story, "Laughing Rock". Chip, my wonderful boyfriend wrote a poem of such heartfelt words but mistakingly called the location of the cabin "Laughing Rock" instead of "Talking Rock". So endearingly priceless! All the best...Heidi

Thank you for the opportunity to stay in your wonderful 'home away from home'! We had a fantastic weekend just enjoying the peace and quiet surrounding us in the evenings on the deck. The fire pits and hammocks were great and it was wonderful not having another cabin in sight or shouting distance! Truely a great and relaxing retreat that we are already planning a return trip to in the spring!! Your cabin had absolutely everything we may have needed and forgotten to bring! Thank you again for a wonderful weekend~~

We visited this cabin the week of Christmas. I just cannot express what a fabulous time we had. This is an absolutely beautiful place. The view from the cabin is breathtaking, especially in the morning as the sun makes its way over the mountain ranges. The middle track of mountain turns the most stunning shade of gold. It is phenomonal. There is a creek on this property, that you must get to by your car, and it is quite a steep drive, but worth it. We had our small dog with us and she had a blast pouncing through the leaves and wading in that icy water. It was very cold the week we were there and the kids were thrilled to find little pockets of ice along the creek and spent hours skipping rocks. We hiked down the hill by the cabin, spent every afternoon around the outdoor fire pit making smores and just talking to eachother in a way that our busy lives don't allow. We spent the evening playing games around the table and watching Christmas movies with the a crackling fire in the fireplace. My children even trucked in a 3 ft "Charlie Brown" Christmas tree the first day that we put in a pail and decorated with a string of lights. It was a precious memory. We did not see a bear, but saw the most beautiful buck with a full rack of antlers. We have never seen an antlered deer before. Enjoying this area so much, we spent one afternoon driving the mountain looking for our own "track of land" to buy. Didn't make any commitments though. We plan to revisit the cabin in the summer. The driving directions were spot on. It couldn't have been easier and the cabin was nicely stocked with kitchen utensils and lighters for the fire pits. There was even a log ready to be lit in the fireplace upon our arrival that cold evening. The best thing about our trip is that we were driving home to Florida on Christmas Day after spending the week there, and awoke to snow on Christmas morning. Our children were beside themselves. They have never seen snow. They made tiny little snow men and we all had a family snowball fight before we left. The view of that snow falling from the huge windows of the cabin into the trees and all along the mountains was breathtakingl This was a celebration trip for our family in honor of a two-year breast cancer survival adventure and we just feel so blessed to have met this milestone and to have had this experience as a reflection of what we have discovered truly matters in our lives.

3 Day Getaway - Ultimate in Seclusion!

Guest: B. Mueller (Alpharetta/GA/USA)
Date of Stay: 11/05/10 Review Submitted: 11/11/10

We live in the Atlanta metro area and came to your cabin for a 3 day "get away". We could not have found a better cabin for our trip. Being on a side street this cabin is the ultimate in seclusion. We did not see or hear another person the entire time we were here. We spent considerable time on the deck reading and taking in the amazing view of the mountains. The cabin itself is modern. When we hear the term "cabin" we fear "rustic". Not this cabin, it's finished out nicely with all the conveniences of home, except internet. But surfing the net isn't the point of a get away is it. Thanks so much for letting us stay here. We loved it.

Fire Flies in the Night sky

Date of Stay: 09/12/10 Review Submitted: 10/05/10

Thank you so much for a fantastic vacation. We loved sitting on the porch, the view is gorgeous, especially the sunset! The fire pit was a great touch to the nightscape. It is amazing how relaxing it is to watch the flames flicker in the night sky like fire flies. ! We found many things to do with the help of your wonderful guide on the coffee table. We thoroughly enjoyed the Harvest Orchard, Whistle Tree Pottery and the Amicalola Falls State Park. The cabin is beautiful, peaceful, and a great place to relieve all your stress! We can't wait to come back again!

Cabin Rental Review

Guest: Winningman (Seymour, TN)
Date of Stay: 07/11/10 Review Submitted: 07/20/10

With small grandchildren I thought the area would offer more for us to do as a family closer to the rental property. No area map was sent to us to review prior to arriving. In fact, directions from Atlanta,GA were sent to us but we live in Tennessee. I called and received directions from TN, provided by mapquest, which only duplicated what I already had printed. We accidentally discovered a map of the area in the cabin that provided some information. On arrival we could not locate the rental property. No one was able to assist us.Check-in at 4:00 pm but office closes at 5:00 pm. We drove up to the main gate at 4:50 pm and a lady was standing outside the office at the main gate (next to the big swimming pool). She proceeded to walk in the office even though she saw us drive up. She locked the office door and would not open the door for me even though I stood and knocked on the door for several minutes while a white cat wrapped around my legs. I had seven different phone numbers including emergency contact numbers. When I called one of the emergency phone numbers an answering machine answered and I was forced to leave a voice mail. One emergency phone number was answered by an anwering service and I was told she couldn't help me - to try another phone number.Totally useless phone numbers and very poor customer service representatives. Why have check-in at 4:00 pm and office close at 5:00 pm??? Luckily, it was summer and we were able to drive around until we accidentally found our rental house. The property was NOT clean when we arrived. We discovered a hotdog and a hamburger meat patty on a paper plate in the microwave when we initially opened the microwave door.Dry towels were in the dryer - clean or dirty towels dried? The floors were so dirty that I made sure the grandchildren wore their shoes/slippers (and the adults,as well) at all times while in the house.A dog bone was discovered under the brown leather sleeper/sofa that we threw away. One Old Navy black flip-flop was under the coffee table. The furnishings were modern/updated.I recommend bamboo curtains in the kitchen area behind the kitchen table.Afternoon summer sun very hot until sunset. Also, bar stools at the kitchen counter or more seating in the den. The swimming pools were nice and clean. Unfortunately, we will not be returning to the area for future vacations. Web site is misleading. The area should be marketed as a fisherman's getaway rather than family vacation.

Owner response:Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. I appreciate your honesty and use all renters comments in hopes of making "Mountain Escape" a great place for future guests.

Very Romantic Weekend

Guest: CNSmall (Greenville, SC)
Date of Stay: 02/12/10 Review Submitted: 02/18/10

My husband and I (and our dog) booked this cabin at the very last minute for a Valentine's Weekend getaway. Of course we picked the weekend where it snowed 5" in GA so that caused a couple obstacles for us. The cabin is located in a gated community in the mountains. The views are fantastic and the cabin was beautiful. It was definitely big enough for us and probably 2-3 other couples. The fire pit on the deck and the fireplace inside made it a very relaxing weekend away from it all. The amenities were terrific, they had everything you could possibly need. The only downfall is that the cabin is at the bottom of a VERY steep mountain. Our car literally slid the entire way down when we got there. Getting back up was another story, they didn't lay any sand or gravel on that side of the mountain at all so we had to literally shovel our way out. It took us about 2 hours but we finally made it out. Unfortunately, that is not how I imagined our weekend ending but I guess if we had a 4wd vehicle we would have been okay. Also, make sure you bring a starter log for the fireplace, the property managers left the wood outside in the snow so we weren't able to have a fire the first night (which was disappointing) and then we didn't get it going until 1:00 in the afternoon the next day. All in all, had the weather been perfect and we did not need anything from the property manager we would have had a carefree weekend. Thanks for everything.

this cabin was amazing...rustic charm, with all the modern ammenities...best of both worlds...we had a rain day and enjoyed watching movies on the satelite tv...the deck was awesome, great view of the mountains, we spent a lot of time sitting out there...having use of the pools and the other ammenities is a huge plus...love the feeling of being secluded but the security of a gated entrance....the whirlpool tub was great after a day of hiking...house is really well maintained and very clean...all we needed to bring was clothes and food...we will definetly be back as often as possible...most reasonable pricing i found, for such a premium property...owners are very friendly and accomadating...thanks

We had a wonderful time in this beautiful cabin. The view as we opened the front door and looked out the back wall of windows to the mountains took our breath away. We had a surprise guest.....A BEAR!!!! It came right up on the front porch.....!!! Everything was just as advertised and the owner was most gracious....We will be back... Oh yes, Due to the distance from stores and restaurants,I would suggest future renters purchase their groceries and supplies prior to arriving at the cabin....They will not want to leave once there anyway!

What a wonderful relaxing week it has been! We have enjoyed the view, the wildlife and peaceful surrounding! Thelocal Jasper Sharp Mountain winery was lovely. ALso went tubing in Coosawattee River. Made a trip to the falls as well. Each trip was well worth the time. Time was spent in the community pools. We did find travel within Talking Rock to be difficult at times- but always a local so very friendly and so willing to assist.
