Fall is our favorite season here. The crowds leave and the wildlife watching is great. The nights get a little crisp, the stars fill the sky at night, and you don't share the village with very many people.
This is our dream cabin - the living/dining room is the original 1927 cabin with beautiful pine walls and a white quartz fireplace. This is more like a small home than a cabin, it's very comfortable and has modern conveniences combined with old-fashioned charm. There are 2 bedrooms downstairs and 1 upstairs - kids only. You can lie on the couch and look out at the trees, dine on the front or back deck, or swing in the hammock in the back after a day of hiking, wildlife watching, fishing, or visiting the giant sequoias.
We are surrounded by young sequoias, sugar pines, firs, and cedars. You can build a fire in the quartz fireplace outside and roast marshmallows or cook on the gas grill. Dine outside listening to the wind in the trees. The bird watching is spectacular, deer graze in the yard, and you have to bring your food indoors - you know why. There are tables front and back, as well as a picnic table.
Grant Grove is within walking distance so you can go to nature walks, the evening campfire, and other park presentations, eat at the restaurant, shop in the gift store, or just walk to the market for an ice cream.
Sequoia National Park is next door. Hume Lake is down the road where you can fish, swim, kayak or canoe.
We love it dearly, you will too. |
