This property is brand new to VRBO as of June 2008. When what you care about most is a family friendly home environment, a yard for the kids to play in, and terrific beach access in a parklike setting, this is the place for you.
Located in a small beachfront community with year-rounders and summer folk as well, this 1960's style vintage beach house has fabulous water views and is "low bank" waterfront (the beach is right there...no treacherous hillsides to navigate).
Entrance to the property is through a large, cheery, bright sun room with potted plants, river rock and a raised platform deck where the dining table is located. At the back of this area are the stairs to the master suite with its own bathroom, located in a separate wing of the house with a private balcony featuring sweeping views of the grounds and beach. Behind the dining room is the Ocean Room, with a world map on one wall, Pacific Blue carpeting and satellite TV and gas fireplace (and the futon). On the ground floor of the house are three additional bedrooms, all with separate entrances. There are 1-3/4 bathrooms for this part of the house. Each of these rooms has access to the outdoors. The north bedroom has a fireplace, sliding patio doors to the beach and a water view.
The living room features large picture windows to maximize sunlight and capture the views. It has a fireplace, gaming table (and board games), sofas, chairs and indoor grill. The kitchen is large enough for two chefs and has a breakfast island. It is heated by a gas stove. The windows overlooks the planted courtyard and picnicking area of the property but there are views of the water from there as well.
North of the house are an expansive lawn and magnificent old trees, giving the property a parklike setting. Situated close to the ocean is a grove of trees carved by winds and dated by local arborists as being 300-400 years old. They give great shelter from the wind and kids love to play under their spreading boughs. A large granite beach rock fire pit close to the beach makes a great place to gather for watching sunsets, roasting marshmallows or sharing wine and conversation with friends. For people used to city lights at night, the remoteness of the property makes for great star-gazing.
The house sits in the middle of the Freshwater Bay crescent, about seven homes west of the mouth of the Elwha River, a popular winter surfing area. Freshwater Bay is located on the Strait of Juan de Fuca and the region is considered an arm of the Pacific Ocean. This part of the world has beach delights year round. Winter storms with crashing waves that shake the house are as special as calm summer days when the water sparkles and the sunsets are full of vivid reds and purples.
We are nine miles from the Victoria ferry terminal in downtown Port Angeles. Situated west of downtown Port Angeles, we are twenty to forty minutes closer to many of the west side attractions of the Olympic Peninsula, including Crescent Lake, Olympic Hot Springs and Sol Duc Hot Springs, Forks, the Hoh Rain Forest, Neah Bay and so on.
