My husband and I, along with our 20-year-old daughter and her friend, were fortunate to stay in this lovely cabin during our trip to Westcliffe in December. We have friends who retired to Westcliffe, and my husband stays with them every fall on his way to hunt near Grand Junction. He has been telling me for years how beautiful the area is, and he did not exaggerate. The mountains are magnificent, and the views are awe-inspiring! We wanted to stay somewhere uncrowded and secluded where we could really relax, and this cabin was the perfect place. It had plenty of room, is spotless and well-maintained, and had everything we needed to make our stay comfortable. Each evening when we came in from the day's activities, we felt like we had come home. The location is private and very quiet - no neighbors right on top of you - but we didn't feel isolated, as the town of Westcliffe is just a few miles down the road in the valley. My daughter and her friend skied and snowboarded two days at Monarch Mountain (about an hour and a half away and a beautiful drive) -- the snow was great, the runs were not crowded, and the prices were much lower than at the big ski resorts. While they skied, my husband and I toured the area in and around the town of Salida and enjoyed a couple of really good restaurants there -- if you like fine food in a casual atmosphere, Laughing Ladies in Salida is wonderful. We saw plenty of wildlife: lots of mule deer, a couple of foxes, coyotes, and a cute bunny that lived right outside the cabin. On our way to Salida, we even got to see several big horn sheep. We were lucky enough to have one big, beautiful snowfall and spent that day right there in Westcliffe visiting with our friends, walking in the snow, and doing some shopping in town. The property owners and local property manager were a delight to work with and so helpful! We can't wait to go back and visit one summer so we can do some real hiking and experience the festivals and other activities that take place in Westcliffe. When we do go back, we would certainly love to stay at the Bar M again, and we recommend it highly!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

My friends and I recently had the opportunity to visit this wonderful cabin on a weekend hunting trip. Its proximity to the majestic Sangre de Cristo mountains make it a superb spot for outdoor activity. The beautiful interior, and gas fireplace, made lounging around in the evenings ever so relaxing. The kitchen was very comfortable for preparing meals, and the overall space was more than ample. The only thing we were left wishing for was a longer weekend.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

My husband and I stayed at the cabin for several nights. Bar-M Vacation is just as it appears in the photos and just as charming. Very homey. Has everything one needs for a splendid stay. Beds are very comfortable and the entire cabin is spotless and very well maintained. I would reccommend this area and cabin to anyone looking for the "perfect" get away, any time of the year. We were there off season for water activities, but did get to the Great Sand Dunes and Mission Wolf. As well as enjoying a birthday dinner at The Alpine Lodge. The view from any angle or window is fab at the cabin. The blanket of stars that keep you warm at night, you can just reach right up and cover yourself with, or pick the Milkyway, right out the sky. Remarkable!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

Your Westcliffe home was amazing. We loved every square inch of it - location, design, panoramic views. It was truly a wonderful place to unwind and relax. We have rented many vacation homes from the East Coast, down to the Florida Coast, and as far west as Hawaii, and your home easily ranks as one of the top. I truly appreciated the ergonomics of your home - very easy to 'move' around and everything had a place. Great attention to detail. We also enjoyed the surrounding areas, managed a trip all the way up Hermit Pass to the summit and even drove through Independence Pass to Aspen one day.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

Our stay at this cabin could not have been better. Everything we needed was furnished. It was very clean, private and comfortable. Mountain views were incredible and we even saw a double rainbow one day. It is far enough off the main roads so you could stand out on the property and hear absolutely nothing. We would definately recommend this cabin to others and hopefully we will be able to rent it again. Thanks for a great vacation.Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children.

We have stayed at this cabin three times prior. We love the area, the cabin is practically brand new, and the accomodations are great! The kitchen and bathrooms are modern - no "roughing it" or missing any conveniences of home. Bedrooms are comfortable and spacious, just everything is as you would want it. The area is very peaceful and quiet, and allows plenty of time for relaxing and getting away from it all.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with young children, sightseeing.

We really enjoyed your cabin this weekend. We used it as the home base as we traveled to La Veta and took the concert train to Fir and then to Alamosa and the Sand Dunes National Park. We also made a trip to the Royal Gorge and the Abbey Winery in Canyon City. We especially enjoyed the deer coming right up to the cabin. One night, we thought that maybe some of them were bedding down for the night right there next to the cabin, but eventually they moved on. We had a tour of the area Sunday night when the road (Wacaygl?) was undermined because of rain up stream. We ended up getting to your cabin via Rosita Road. Lots a rain fell while we were there. We could almost see the pastures green up before our very eyes. Oh yes, we even managed to see a herd of elk at the Wolf Springs Ranch in addition to the buffalo. All in all, it was a very enjoyable weekend.Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway, sightseeing.

The best stay of our 9 day vacation in Colorado! Despite record tempatures, we had a marvelous time in your beautiful log home. We loved the remoteness of the location, the spaciousness of the cabin, and the enjoyment of the deer, who came calling each evening! And listening to the QUIET! Really wished we had planned more time here rather than the other tourist places!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing.

Our stay at the Bar-M was one of the best we have experienced. This was a part of our annual family vacation that we take with our four daughters and their families. Half of them made it on this part and the cabin was just perfect for us. We had a fantastic time enjoying the evening visits of the deer, the scenery and peace and quiet of the area.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, sightseeing.

The Bar-M log home is not far from the tourist town of Canon City and just south of the cowboy town of Westcliffe and a perfect place to stay that is close to great mountain activities. That's why we chose it. We were able to have quality time, explore the outdoors along the "Rainbow Trail" (located just 20 minutes across the valley), and see the wildlife from the patio. We watched the mule deer graze on the property! The accommodations were much more than we could have ever imagined or expected - extremely well cared for, new, and clean. They had everything we needed! The kitchen area is large so many of our conversations, game playing, and daily brain storming for activities occurred around the table. We also liked the game table in the loft. There are many hiking maps and reference books for the guests that give you helpful information about hiking trails and field trips that are close by--like our visit to Mission Wolf! We highly recommend white water rafting with Noah's Ark. They were fabulous and the water was wild! Touring the Great Sand Dunes National Park was amazing as well! There is much too see and do, but at the same time you could opt to do nothing and enjoy the quietness of the house/landscape, which we did. The owners were attentive to our questions both prior to arrival and during our stay. We would love to return to the Bar-M for more adventures and relaxation. This was one of our most memorable vacations with friends and children. Thank you so much for sharing your house with us!!!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thank you for staying with us! We are glad you were able to do some fun adventures, weather permitting! Glad you came back during the winter season to hit some of the activities you missed earlier. Come again!
