What we asked for and more!

Beautiful, uniquely built secluded house. Highest built house on the mountain. Full use kitchen and spotlessly clean bathrooms. Hot tub felt and looked brand new. Perfect house for 2-4 adult guests. Definitely need a truck or full wheel drive vehicle for parts of drive up. Wifi and directv was a nice feature and nice size tv in main room.

Owner response:We're so pleased that you enjoyed your stay. It was great having you as our guests and we look forward to having you visit again. We do highly recommend that our Winter guests have a vehicle appropriate for mountain roads covered in snow and ice. However, in the "Sunny" months I prefer to take my sports car when visiting. :-)

Guest from Lexington, SC entered the following in our cabin's guest book: This cabin is what is says!!! 'A World Apart' Great place to leave the stress of day to day task & have some much needed R & R. The porch in the morning is the place to be with coffee & an occasioned hummingbird. Never saw or heard an owl - maybe too hot! The hot tub was put to good use every evening. Prett much enjoyed the peace & quiet here. Thanks for sharing your 'get away cabin' with us.

Guest from Cary, NC entered the following in our cabin's guest book: We had such a great 4th of July week vacation in your amazing cabin. We were in such awe of how pretty it was and how serene the surrounding area is. We were all ready for some rest and relaxation away from work, aging parents and kids who are just becoming young adults. Did lots of local shopping, had a great time at Wheels Through Time Museum, sight seeing and hiking. We will have many fond memories! Thank you!

Gary and I & Mocha & Sarge (our chocolate & Black labs) absolutely love the cabin! We all felt at home from the minute we arrived. It snowed the first 2 days we were here and we didn’t mind staying in & keeping warm by the fire. The wood in the house is just gorgeous and the stone fireplace is amazing. The stair railings are really neat, too. We’ve had fun enjoying the hot tub, the tub upstairs, and of course the pool table. We wanted a relaxing vacation & this cabin provided just that type of environment. Our fury babies were very relaxed this week too as all 4 of us could be found taking naps. :-) We enjoyed going to historic Waynesville, go to the coffee/furniture shop there & get a good cup of Kona coffee & you have to get a slice of coconut cake…truly a slice of heaven!! We also got to see Biltmore @ Christmas, which was neat. The Blue Ridge Parkway was closed for repairs, so that was a bummer. Maybe next time. Hopefully we can see some elk tomorrow and to to the Soco Falls down the road before it’s back to Raleigh. Thank you for sharing your beautiful cabin in these gorgeous mountains. It was the perfect winter getaway that we needed.

Guest from FL entered the following in our cabin's guest book: Our first Thanksgiving in the mountains was great! The peace and tranquility was much needed. The cabin was comfortable, great location. Enjoyed each and every day, but time passes too quickly in the beautiful mountains. Hiked a lot, hot tub sure helped! Have to return to the Florida Gulf coast tomorrow, but will cross this off my bucket list and hope to return next year.

Raymond Fairchild is a HOOT!! The Elk at Cataloochee was inspiring and the drive over exciting! This cabin is like a home – beautiful & invitingly comfortable.

Guest from Atlanta, GA entered the following in our cabin's guest book: We’re back after our engagement trip up here last December! But this time, it’s for our honeymoon! When trying to decide where to go for our honeymoon, we thought what could be better than back up to the mountains and this amazing cabin. We were seeking a relaxing trip, and that’s exactly what we got, couldn’t have been better! Enjoyed the fall scenery, beautiful views, and couldn’t get enough of the hot tub. Just what we needed after our amazing, but hectic Wedding. Went to Asheville one evening for a beautiful dinner at the Sunset Terrace at the Grove Park Inn. An Amazing, full suset accompanied our dinner out on the terrace. Also went to see the elk one evening, which was a really cool experience, ended up being about 10 miles off of Cove Creek Road, up and down the mountain side. Our stay here was absolutely perfect, thank you so much for the awesome cabin, we will be back again!!!

Guest from Fort Mill, SC entered the following in our cabin's guest book: Death of the Diet After being on the Atkins/South Beach for 6 weeks and only 4 lbs from my goal, total crap broke out in MV, Cherokee and Waynesville as my 4 day vacation from the diet turned into a binge fill pursuit of carbohydrates: Pizza, Chips & Nacho Cheese, Hush puppies, Gravy, OJ, homemade Reesie Cup, Bread, Crackers, French Fries, Jelly, Twizzles, and Sour Gummy Bears. looks like I'll be checking into the Betty Crocker center for carb addicts when I get back home. Fried Apple Pie... This was the only carb I was going to eat, but time after time i was foiled in the quest for a FRIED APPLE PIE. Even went to the Apple Festival in Waynesville - they had everything apple, fruit, apple butter, jelly, jam, underwear, cake, bread, apple tacos, but no apple fried pies (turnover). On a surprising note, there was a Native American in Cherokee performing a chanting dance. Afterwards, he spoke with the audiance in his native New York accent while smokng his cigarettes. His family must have descended from the group that sold Manhattan for $24. Watch out for the local bear - he begs! The hike to Water Rock Knob was steep, and then was no water at the top. continued...Chipmunks or Muckrats? which are they? Like Visa, they are everywhere you are. One evening walking close by, I noticed 3-4 following me. Soon, I found myself surrounded by them. If only I had a Fried Apple Pie to offer as a sacrifice. Closer they came. I tried calling them Alvin, I tried playing Captain & Tennille, but nothing stopped them. What would happen to me? Would I be gnawed to death? Would small pieces of me be stored in their chubby cheeks? The answer lie in my failed diet. In my jacket was 4 oz (232 jelly Belly) - flavor very cherry. Throwing them in the air, thou tiny brained vermin went for the sour tasty treats as I made my escape. Had a Good Time.

Guest from Shallotte, NC entered the following in our cabin's guest book: After a 6 1/2 hour drive across NC & SC we're here!! We live at the beach and needed a break from the very hot, humid summer. We also have every species of bug known to mankind! Your cabin is great! You certainly planned it well, and decorated it nicely. Gorgeous forest - peaceful seclusion. The ceiling over the deck is exactly like the one, color and all, of ours in our home of 19 years on the Catawba River in Meclenburg Co - (Charlotte). Nostalgic! So far (9-25), we have not heard one hoot owl, :-), of course, no bears yet, so that's good! About this road - whew, our poor Buick will never be the same! Sherry hit a jackpot at Harrah's - happy days!!! Now we can go back again! Yesterday, 9-24, we arrived in Bryson City minutes after a bank robbery! Police cars zooming everywhere! After a chase they arressted him a block from the bank. To be continued. Today, we visited Waynesville and shopped on Main St. Very nice! Of course, I found Walmart - greatest one I've ever gone to! But, the hi-lite of the day has to be the multiple flushing toilet handle at the police dept!!! I kid you not! Push up for #1, down for #2!! :-) we rode the Great Smoky Mt. RR today. Great staff, but saw more kudzu than anything. Would not recommed unless the trees have changed color - especially considering the price. Ladies, check out Sassy Sisters up-scale consignement between Sylva and Dillsboro - great store! Men - knife store next door. Love the hot tub - Moon and Sun shining down (not at the same time). The wood work in the house is first class! Some lost people drove up after dark - a little creepy. Yea - "Dancing with the Stars" is on! Thanks for the washer/dryer! No Hoot Owl yet! We found a great antique store today (9-30) 7 miles west of Waynesville headed towards Sylva on the right. Name? We can't remember! Is has rained 20" back home in Shallotte the last 2 days. What a mess! Only 4 inches here. We grilled hamburgers tonight and enjoyed the great hot tub. Colder tonight. Back to Waynesville tomorrow. No Hoot Owl yet. Well, we go home tomorrow. It is 40 degrees today at 5:30. Feels great! We went to see friends today who have a farm in the country west of here. We have really enjoyed our trip. P.S. No Hoot Owl!

Guest from Bay Minnette, AL and Lower Burrel, PA entered the following in our cabin's guest book: We enjoyed our time at this great home away from home. We came on our first vacation with our children’s grandparents. First time we have spent this much bonding time together because we live so far away. We enjoyed tubing down the river in Cherokee. We love Cataloochee Valley “elk”. I just thought this drive was hair raising but the road to Cataloochee Valley made this look like a walk in the park. But it was worth it! Our most favorite was the mornings visiting on the poarch you really are a “World Apart” here. We loved our breakfast at Joey’s pancake house, Unto these Hills play, but would not spend our money again on the “authentic Indian village”. Thanks for sharing this wonderful place. FYI – we viewed the Elk from 6:45 – 8:00 had to leave the house about 5:45-6 to get there gates close at 8Pm.

My boyfriend and I came up here for a weekend snowboard trip at Cataloochee, which was a lot of fun. We are supposed to see some heavy snow before we head home, which will be a great bonus! Most important, a life changing event took place right on your balcony…we got engaged! So thanks for providing such a romantic and cozy cabin. Guest from Pittsville, MD entered the following in our cabin's guest book: As with many other notes written - we to have been to Maggie Valley before, but this is the best cabin. It is beautiful here. We have enjoyed many walks up and down the mountain to the Mountain Plateaus. Yesterday we walked to the plateau below us and played a game of mountain crozuet. Thank the Lord we didn’t lose any balls over the mountainside. We have done very little traveiling this trip and have spent most of our time right here. I think Mindy (our friends Border Collie) had as much fun as we did. We have made good use of the pool table and our 4 yr old daughter and I have spent many days in the the hot tub (98 degrees) so she could swim. Again your cabin is beautiful and exceeded our expectations. All the wood is beautiful as well as all the décor. Thank you for sharing your cabin with us. We wished we would have planned for 2 weeks off. God Bless

[Note from Owner: I'm not sure what to make of this comment, but hopefully they enjoyed their time with nature. I've always heard the Crab Cracker Chipmunk is the most dangerous species. Now we have proof.]It was a nice, sunny day. Suddenly, the chipmunks attacked. They invaded by the 100’s. We fought them off for nearly 3 hours, but we failed. Many of them had crab crackers. 15 of us campe up, 3 of us came down. The chipmunks took the rest. The 3 of us continued to hold them off, but since the Direct TV wasn’t working, we lost Bill. BIIIILLLL!!!!! 2 weeks after the first attacks the chipmunks broke in. They came in through the windows, fireplace, toilets, etc. There’s too many of them. N000000000ooooooo........[2nd Note from Owner: We had to have our DirecTV system redone so it was out of service for a few weeks. We're happy to report that all is well with it now (and no more sightings of Crab Cracker Chipmunks have been reported).]

Guest from Newport News, VA and Ocala, FL entered the following in our cabin's guest book:A quiet retreat, especially with the cable out of service. But, amazingly, a 16 year old survived – we feel only 10-15 hours of therapy and he will be “normal” again. The road up/down becomes a bit unnverving after days of rain, but the Japenese made auto did a fine job. The home is lovely and well equipped (we forgive your lack of Crab Crackers) but would have loved to be able to open a door or window and relish the cool night air. So screens would be our suggestion. We had a lovely time – for the 2 of us from Virginia, it was our first trip and most enjoyable. The Floridians have been here several years running. [Note from Owner: We took their advice and added screen doors so relishing of cool night air is now possible. :-)]

A guest from Melbourne, FL entered the following in our cabin's guest book:We had a great time visiting the area and staying in your quaint cabin. This was our 1st trip to the Smoky Mts. What a great place to escape the summer humidity of FL! Our favorite day was spent driving the Blue Ridge Parkway and hiking to the waterfall at “Graveyard Trail”. If you do this hike make sure to climb above the 1st part of the fall to see the much more impressive fall beyond. We also spent an afternoon at Sliding Rock. If you like adventure this is for you – very fun! Thanks for sharing your cabin, the hot tub was very nice, as was the peaceful privacy.

Honeymoon of my dreams

Guest: Mrs.DWP (Virginia)
Date of Stay: 06/14/09 Review Submitted: 05/10/10

In my search for the perfect honeymoon, there were certain features that my husband and I were looking for. He wanted a pool table. I wanted a fireplace and a hot tub and lots of privacy. We both wanted to be in the mountains. A World Apart truly is a world apart. Even now, almost a year later I can't help but look at the pictures of this perfect cabin and reminisce. The pictures are a perfect representation of the cabin. It was very cozy and well stocked. There are so many things nearby. Some of the activities we enjoyed were riding the Great Smokey Mountain Railroad, visiting the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, spending the day in Cherokee and the national forest, spending a day in Gatlinburg, and waterfall hiking. We had the perfect mix of romance and adventure! The owners are incredibly nice and very helpful. Brien made a few recommendations for places to eat and things to do in the area. I must credit him with telling us about Joey's Pancake House!! We ate there almost every day for breakfast. It is the best breakfast I've ever eaten. That alone is worth the 8 hour drive!! My only gripe, which I hate to even do, is the drive up the mountain. Thankfully we had 4-wheel drive. Even in the middle of June, I don't know how any vehicle could make it up that gravel without 4wd. After the storm we had, the mud was terrible and much of the gravel had been washed out. I would not recommend anyone without 4wd trying to access this cabin. We can't wait to come back to A World Apart. It will definitely be our cabin of choice the next time we visit Maggie Valley.

Fireplace smelled pretty strong all week even though we didn’t have a fire. We hiked, took the train, and mostly viewed the waterfalls. We loved the waterfalls!!! I know if I come back here “Owl” have a good time!!![Note from Owner: We apparently had a guest get a little wild with the fireplace or perhaps didn't open the damper before lighting one. In any case, a good cleaning, airing out, and bottle of Febreeze later and all is well. :-) ]

We had a great time in this cabin, only wish they had screens on the windows so you could let the nature’s air come inside and bath the cabin in fresh air. We saw all kinds of wildlife to include turkeys, chipmunks, squirrels and plenty of birds. My wife refilled the hummingbird feeders and they went wild over them. [Note from Owners: The screens were out for cleaning and repair at the time of their visit, but have since been replaced. Feel free to bathe in fresh air. :-) ]

A guest from Fayetteville, NC entered the following in our cabin's guest book:We had a wonderful time here in Maggie Valley and our stay at your cabin. I’ve been visiting the mountain region for over twenty years starting with my four brothers and parents. Now that I’m a grown adult the mountains still beckon me. For the past ten years I’ve been visiting Maggie Valley and renting Cabins. We’ve pretty much seen everything so this visit was spent mostly in the cabin relaxing in the hot tub, and on the many decks. The drive up to the cabin was an adventure in itself, with our little Chevy car. Once at the cabin I enjoyed seeing the humming birds outside on the front deck, and the chipmunks running across the terrain. We did have a visitor that flew in for a visit. I was closing up the upstairs doors to the loft when all of a sudden a bird flew in. She didn’t stay long, and flew right back out. The next morning I realized she has a nest in the far right hand corner of the cabin outside the left area where the pool table sits. So, I just thought I might share that information for other visitors to the cabin. (Beware of the Momma Bird!) Also watch out fot bees, they were out and about. Other than the bird and the bees, Ha. Ha!! We had a wonderful stay. Thanks so much for sharing your cabin with us. See ya next year. God Bless and peace.

We were planning on going skiing, but it turned out to be 70 deg, so we just went to Asheville and hung out at the cabin, hiking, and going in the hot tub. Thank you again for your awesome cabin! My whole family -- me, my brother, and my parents enjoyed our stay!

One of our personal favorites was left in the cabin's guestbook by a guest from Atlanta, GA: Dear owner of the cabin, this is a wonderful place. The smell of smokey barbeque, the hot tub, and comfort. It has an amazing view! This is a beautiful cabin! P.S. Thanks so much! Sincerely, Asia (a 9 year old child) Thank you! [She completed her entry with a great picture of a girl bear complete with bow]

From the moment we opened the door we felt at home! Your cabin is awesome! You have thought of everything to make one feel welcome. We spent our time relaxing, playing pool, using the hot tub and enjoying the views for the porch. Our first trip to Maggie Valley will be a memorable one. From skiing at Cataloochee, to Harrah’s Casino in Cherokee, to shopping the market square and “Smoky Mountain Gifts and more.”Thank you for sharing your mountain home with us. Hope to be back again next year.

A guest from Miami, FL wrote the following in our cabin's guest book: The greatest Christmas my family and I have spent. The cabin was great, comfortable, and most of all beautiful! We are happy to have spent such a great vacation here. The decorations are gorgeous and this home is a home away from home; very warm and loveable. Thanks for allowing us to spend such great moments in your home.

Guests from Cordele and Leesburg, GA wrote the following in our Guestbook:A wonderful trip. Leaves were beautiful. Stayed with another couple which we travel with once a year during the month of October. This cabin was very comfortable; truly “A World Apart”. It’s the perfect place to stay when viewing the leaves at their peak. Rode the train, played pool, put puzzles together, cooked great meals, and got a lot of much needed rest. We would recommend this cabin! And would like to come back in the Summer to go rafting. Recommend the Blue Ridge Parkway Trip and walking around the grounds at the cabin. (Great views if you hike the hill by the cabin).

We had a great week in Maggie Valley staying in this cabin. The leaves on all the trees were changing, making all the scenery beautiful. The cabin was very comfortable, we highly recommend it!

A guest from Gastonia, NC wrote the following in our Guestbook:What a wonderful cabin in a nice, reclusive nook in the heart of Maggie Valley. I have not been to Maggie Valley since my childhood. My Aunt owned a motel, service station, and a few houses in the area as a child. My memories were of Ghost Town and Cherokee and being here again as an adult was wonderful. The World Apart cabin was absolutely wonderful. The décor is breathtaking and brings back a lot of memories of my family. Thank you for letting us enjoy your home.

A guest from Dallas, NC wrote the following in our cabin's guest book:We had an incredible time. Everything was absolutely perfect. The temperature was awesome with the perfect breeze. We loved the temperature in the hot tub the most. :-) We spent most of our time in the hot tub relaxing and enjoying the sounds of nature. It was so quiet and relaxing without the boys (3 ½ & 19 months) we almost didn’t know what to do with ourselves. There was plenty to do here and nearby though. This visit we spent a day at the beautiful Biltmore House in Asheville. That was unbelievably worth it. We were lucky this weekend they had an amazing romantic evening with a live jazz band, unlimited wine, and a candlelight house tour. A must see if possible. We had some great candle lit evenings here also. A word of caution though, be careful when using the Jacuzzi jets when taking a bubble bath (You can become overcome with bubbles :-) ). It was so enjoyable though. We managed to find the small waterfalls as well as the neighborhood playground and picnic tables. A great place to take the boys when we come back. We have some fantastic memories from our stay here. The cabin had almost everything you could ever need for the perfect visit. We had such a great time and had the chance to get rejuvenated. We can’t thank you enough for sharing your beautiful cabin with us. It truly is a “World Apart”. We will definitely rent it again.

A guest from Charleston, SC wrote the following in our cabin’s guest book:Beach girl from SC to the mountains of NC. We had a great time. It is so peaceful and quiet. We rode the Smokey Mountain Railroad on Thursday – what a treat. Upgraded our ticket to the club car – well worth it. Shopped in Dillsboro. Sitting on the porch watching the hummingbirds and the chipmunk was a thrill. My husband and father enjoyed shooting pool. It was great to see my mother relax. I of course could not stay away from the water – so in the hot tub I stayed – can’t get the beach girl out of me! Your cabin is top of the line. We will be back! Thanks for sharing!

A guest from Emerald Isle, NC wrote the following in our cabin’s guest book:What a beautiful mountain home! We stay in Maggie at least once every year at a different Carolina Vacation spot. This is the best one yet. We arrived on Sunday and enjoyed the grill, the hot tub, and pool table. Monday my husband and I took the boys – ages 9 & 11 to Ghost Town. We had a great time. Monday night we headed to Cherokee to the outdoor drama – Unto These Hills. What a nice experience and such a rich history. Tuesday we ventured to Franklin to let the boys mine for gems. They found sapphires, emeralds, rubies, moonstone, and quartz just to name a few. Last night we played board games and pool. We must end our vacation today, but this is a place we plan to return to very soon (the Fall perhaps) :-). Your home is beautifully decorated – love the owls and bears. The nature outside is the best. We even saw a chipmunk one morning. What a treat that was! Thank you for sharing your mountain home with us.

The cabin is absolutely beautiful and has every comfort! We spent our first chilly evening in the hot tub which was very relaxing. After exploring Maggie Valley, we spent the afternoons sitting in the rocking chairs on the porch watching my children enjoy the nature around them which was the most peaceful thing I've done in a long time. Thanks for sharing this beautiful place!

Our cabin has just been finished and become available for rent, so we are anxiously awaiting our first guests. In the mean time, you'll just have to trust us when we say the name "A World Apart" came to us quite easily. We believe it truly is. Of course, we may be just a bit biased. :-)
