This condo is a wonderful home base for a Maui vacation. The photos are accurate. The property was very clean and well equipped with everything you could want, including snorkel gear, chairs, hair dryer, etc. The pool and hot tub are well maintained and very pleasant. And the VIEW! It was fantastic! We watched sea turtles, surfers, paddle boarders, snorkelers, everything right from the lanai - not to mention beautiful sunsets and a gorgeous moon. We loved being able to walk straight out from the condo and find wonderful snorkeling so close by. The low-key quiet, atmosphere was perfect, yet a few steps down the beach and you are right in the middle of the large resort crowds. There is a little grocery store within walking distance as well as gear shops, etc. Dukes restaurant has great food and is an easy stroll. The kitchen is well equipped if you want to cook and eat on the lanai. We didn't use the BBQ's down by the pool, but they looked great. Everyone was so friendly. It was my first time in Maui and my first time renting from a private owner. I was a little worried about the whole process, but the owner, Ray, was very helpful and always got right back to me whenever I called or emailed. It was just a fantastic experience.

We stayed in this unit at the end of June/beginning of August. The unit was exactly as described on the site and the pictures are accurate. The condo had everything we needed and it was very clean. The kitchen was well stocked, there was a boogie board to use, and snorkeling gear. The view from the unit is truly amazing, and watching the sunset was beautiful! There is a beach walk a few steps from the condo that allows you to walk the length of the beach to near the black rock area. We spent time boogie boarding on the beach just to the right hand side of the condo when the surf was high. When the surf is low the water is great for snorkeling and swimming. The ocean here was beautiful and clear. The beach was not very crowded at all. The condo is about a 5 minute drive from Lahaina, a nearby town that has lots of great restaurants and shops. Ray, the owner, was very responsive to any questions I had. For the money...we were extremely happy with the quality of the accommodations. I would definitely stay here again!

My wife, small child and I stayed in the condo for 2 weeks at the end of March. The Maui Kai is an older building but is well maintained and our condo was everything we expected and was great value given its location and proximity to great beaches. Views from the lanai are fantastic and this unit (and lanai) is one of the bigger ones (and on the top floor!). Beach out in front and to the sides were ok to swim in, but you had to negotiate lots of reef. Great sandy beach though, as went for runs down the beach every morning. Given we had a 3 year old with us, we usually took the short drive down to Kaanapali beach south of Black Rock where the reef was farther out to reduce the waves, but there was more of a sandy bottom in the water. I have rated our experience good only because our sitting on the lanai was often interrupted by cigarette smoke drifting over from the owners next door at 1004. We did complain to the front desk (as it is illegal in Hawaii to smoke on lanais), but to no avail. Otherwise, saw lots of whales and turtles from our lanai perch and sleeping to the sound of waves crashing was awesome! Also the pool was great after a day at the beach for our little one. Thank you Ray for allowing us the use of your condo.

Everything we expected and more! We went for our 30th anniversary and cant wait to go back. We loved watching the whales. The condo has evrything you need.

My mom and I celebrated her 70th birthday in Maui. We stayed at Maui Kai and were extremely happy with the penthouse condo. It was everything that the owner Ray said it would be and more, the photos he posted are accurate. We ate breakfast on the lanai watching the whales swimming in the water due to the property being ocean and beach front. We enjoyed BBQing our dinners as well as watched the sunsets from the lanai. The location of this condo is surrounded by other great properties and we were nearby restaurants, island shops, grocery store, the cannery mall, and beautiful beaches. Ray's condo was beautiful, clean, well-maintained, comfortable, stocked and supplied with all the emenaties of home. I recommend this property to anyone wanting to stay in luxury. We look forward to returning to Maui soon and staying at Maui Kai. Thank you Ray!!! :)

wonderful vacation

I stayed with my aunt at this unit for two weeks in January 2011. The unit itself is updated and comfortable, while being fully stocked. The views from the lanai are breathtaking and numerous hours were spent whale and turtle watching in comfort. We had other family staying at the resort and used all facilities including nightly barbeques. You will not be disappointed in this unit and we highly recommend it. Our biggest decision in two weeks was pool or ocean. A trip to Mama's Fish House is a must , but it is not cheap. Kristin & Lynn
