Perfect romantice getaway!

Guest: Brent and Jill from El Dorado, CA
Date of Stay: 05/16/12 Review Submitted: 05/17/12

Thank you for letting us enjoy your beautiful home. The place was perfect for our romantic getaway. We both really needed to get away from work and other at home issues and it makes seeing the positives in life much easier. There is not one thing we could complain about! We will be back, hopeful sooner rather than later, renting the entire place for all our family.

The house was spectacular!

Guest: Bruce and Rickie from Akron, OH
Date of Stay: 04/25/12 Review Submitted: 05/09/12

We enjoyed our stay here on this beautiful island so much! It's not too often that the reality exceeds the online pictures and descriptions, but Hale Aloha qualifies! The house is just spectacular! We enjoyed checking out the entire island, from Ke'e Beach to Waimea Canyon. We loved the zip express and the doors-off helicopter ride was simpy incredible! We enjoyed shopping in Hanalei and Poi'pu. A wonderful stay-the chilled wine, flowers and chocolates for our anniversary was such an unexpected pleasure! Thanks so much!

Thank you all so much! Our stay was wonderful, the weather pulled itself together and showed its beauty. The house was delightful. Patricia was very helpful. In all our first trip to Kauai was a delight. Highlights: Snorkel at Ke'e Beach, Kayaking on the Hanalei River, Picnic breakfast on the beach across the road, our anniversary dinner at Bara Cuda, the luau at Mediterranean. The beauty of your home, the people, culture and atmosphere of Kauai will remain with us.

The house is beautiful with charming decor!

Guest: Kathy & Rob from Minnesota
Date of Stay: 03/12/12 Review Submitted: 05/09/12

If there's anything worse than being stuck in a cold Minnesota, it's spending a lot of money to be cold and soggy in Kauai-2 sunny day out of 14. Worse storm since 1972. The house is beautiful. Appreciated the charming decor, cook's kitchen and seriously lots of hooks in the bathroom. Thanks Patricia for being a friend to strangers in a scarey long storm.

The beach house was as good as they say!

Guest: John & Lisa from Southern Alberta, Canada
Date of Stay: 01/14/12 Review Submitted: 02/02/12

Well its our last evening in this wonderful place. We had split up our vacation. 7 days in Poihu, 3 days Waimea and 4 days here. It as a great balance of everything Kauai has to offer. Highlights were: snorkeling at Ke'e, diving in the South, the red clay of Waimea. The beach house was as good as they say. Her we attended the Luau down the road at the Hanlei Colony Resort. We met kind and friendly people and are left in awe at the vegetation of the north shore. We're really going to miss it here

Thank you for sharing your beautiful home with us. We loved the relaxing atmosphere, the window wrap all around the front part of the cottage allowing the gentle breezes to come in and affording a wonderful view of the ocean. We loved cooking in the big kitchen and grilling. The views on this island are truly amazing! We enjoyed hiking the Kalalau trail to the falls and back, the Waimea Canyon trail, snorkeling, and our helicopter ride. Kauai truly is a beautiful place to stay. Mahalo!

Ada (5 months) loved the crib you rented for us (thank you) and adored spending time at Tunnels, as her first travel to a foreign country. Guess her standards now are quite high Thank you for everything and we are now flying back to Norway, a bit sad to leave, but with amazing memories Patricia is the best.

Mahalo nui for sharing your lovely home! We very much enjoyed cooking dinner each night and enjoying it on the lanai. When we think about this place compared to a large hotel, we feel so smart and lucky to have found you! We did so many fun things-hiking, snorkeling, paddle boarding, Na Pali boa tour ziplining, and just chilling. It was truly a wonderful tropical vacation. Thanks again for providing such a wonderful home base. From: Reno NV

We have experienced a magical week in this laid-back, lush, tropical paradise. Thank you Beverly, Doug, and Patricia for making our week possible and so relaxing. This was an anniversary trip for us, and that made it ever more special. Favorites:fresh ahi tuna and poke from Hanalei Dolphin Market, morning 4-hour Napali Catamaran cruise with swimming and snorkeling, Hanapepe Friday Night Art Walk with marvelous dinner at Hanapepe Cafe (worth a drive to the other side of the island if you are there on a Friday!), sunset on Ke'e Beach, stargazing on the beach across from the house. We loved the house- the lanai, the light coming in at all angles, the wonderful kitchen. We'd love to come back! Mahalo! Anne and Rich Oak Park, Illinois

Kauai Paradise

Guest: Anne & Rich (Chicago )
Date of Stay: 05/20/11 Review Submitted: 05/31/11

Beverly, Doug, and Patricia, We truly loved every minute of our 9 days in Kauai and staying at your beautiful cottage in celebration of our wedding anniversary. It was incredibly relaxing and we found ourselves moving to the natural rhythms of Kauai and its weather -- early morning soft rains and the rooster crowing in the distance (not a bother at all), marvelous ocean breezes over the lanai when we breakfasted and enjoyed our morning Kona coffee, wonderful sunshine making for great beach exploring, and finally, awesome sunsets off Ke'e Beach (and the lanai too). The house and kitchen were perfect for all the cooking we did -- LOVED the fresh ahi tuna steaks, sushi crab rolls and poke from Hanalei Dolphin Market and the fresh mangoes and veggies from the Sat Farmers' Market in Hanalei. Favorite activities on the island: the 4-hour morning boat cruise with swimming and snorkeling off the NaPali Coast (thanks for the recommendation of using NaPali Catamaran, Patricia!); "beaching" at Ke'e, Tunnels, and Anini; the National Wildlife Refuge Center at the Lighthouse; the Friday Night Arts Walk in Hanapepe and scrumptious dinner at the Hanapepe Cafe (definitely worth a trip to the other side of the island, only open for dinner on Friday nights). Probably our very favorite experience was every single time we drove back to the house from Princeville area -- this must be the most gorgeous 8-miles stretch of scenery anywhere in the world! Thanks again for making it all possible. We look forward to a return trip!

Can't believe it's been 22 years since we first came to Haena on our honeymoon. This is our 4th time back, and this house was definitely the best place we've stayed. We cooked here almost every night (love all the pots and pans) with fabulous fresh fish and steak from the Dolphin fish market. Sunsets at Ke'e Beach with wine, cheese and bread, the Tuesday farmer's market, hiking the Napali cliffs- all favs. We love this place- we will be back! Aloha! Mary Ann and Bill- Houston, TX

Pat and I had a wonderful time here on our honeymoon- all we can talk about is how we want to come back every year We tried to experience it all- zipline, waterfall hikes, helicopter, boat ride. My favorite was the boat ride- we saw whales, dolphins, sea turtles and beautiful fish- so amazing (the chickens and mosquitoes I could live without). We will be back :) P.S. We had fun playing with the ukelele. Love, Erin and Pat

What a magical place. This house, Kauai, the people--and let's not forget--the kitchen. We spent six lovely nights in the Haena Cottage and now moving out to the Garden Cottage for our last night, We hear wonderful things about the shower and may spend the last 24 hours under water :) What we've loved most? 1) Patricia, what a wonderful host & truly caring person 2) the kitchen; specially the stove 3) Tunnels beach from 4 to 7 pm $) poke! 5) your neighbors may be the nicest people in the world 6) a week of uninhibited relaxation--no schedules, no to-do lists--and total permission from Patricia to fully relax & unwind & be totally self-indulgent. A beautiful end to our honeymoon. We loved the window & the unique "jungle" feel of the house when it rained. Cooking in the kitchen was really fun & the short walk to the beach was great-here are our tips for island fun :) 1) Wake up early & walk to the beach & see the sun rise 2) Buy fresh fish at the Hanalei Dolphin Market & ask for the house spice. A little salt, pepper, lemon & olive oil makes for a delicious meal! Eat outside on the patio. 3) Hike the trail from Ke'e Beach at 3 pm & watch the sunset while you hike back from the stunning beach & Falls. Thanks to Patricia for food tips & chilled wine! Mark & Griffin Palo Alto, CA PS Sunset cruise around Na Pali Coast was incredible as well!

9/11 Just arrived today. Beautiful! Loved jumpin in the waves out front and doing a little body surfing. Tonight we had a great dinner and live music at Tahiti Nui. The Chile Lime Shrimp was awesome! 9/12 Great day on the North Shore! Started with a walk down to the coffee shop. When there we ran into a guy by the name of "Paradise Paul". Paul gave us some local tips and held a great conversation. After, we bumped around Hanalei, did a little shopping and bout the fixings (spicy poke, lemon, fish, ceviche, etc) at Blue Dolphin Fish Market. Great food! Although lunch for 2 was $51. We ended the day with drinks at the St Regis watching the sunset. This is a must! Also, had a great dinner at Hanlei Gourmet. 9/13 Hiked the Na Pali Coast to Kalalau Beach. This was definitely the highlight oif the trip so far. I mean, just UNBELIEVABLE sights!! We ended the hike with a cool dip at Ke'e Beach, followed by and unbelievable burrito from Red Hot Mamas-delicious! Had dinner at Bubba Burgers; good but not great. 9/14 Coffee down the street is definitely becoming an everyday norm! Followed that up with zip-lining at Princeville Ranch: great time. We finally caught the shaved ice truck open in town, and it was worth it Went to the Hanalei Farmers Market and got some great fresh fruits and veggies...oh, and cheese. Then, chilled at Lumahai East Beach. Ate a wonderful dinner at Dolphin (Poke Martini was probably the best dish I've had so far), but not before we took in an awesome sunset from Hanalei Pier. 9/15 Off to the south shore. We love this place! If we had to pick one thing that you shouldn't miss, it would be: DO THE NA PALI COAST HIKE!! The 2 mile was perfect.......followed by sunset at the St. Regis. One love, Gabriel & Karen Sacramento, CA

Hard to rank the top experiences, but I'll try: 1) Na Pali explorers boat trip-Wonderful! 2) Snorkeling at Tunnels Beach 3) Heli-ride 4) The food-everywhere, everything 5) Queen's Bath-a must! The many large windows that surround the upstairs kitchen living/dining room look right out onto the ocean is the most beautiful blues I have ever seen. To cook in the large kitchen and watch the ocean-really what could be better. I also enjoyed the hammock on the front porch-the perfect place to read! At night I would slip across the road to the ocean and feel so calm with the waves and the infinite stars above. Although the road seems like it would noisy, you rarely can hear anything tucked away in the house but the constant sound of the waves. It was also so wonderful to have that coffee shop just down the beach. Truly heaven to walk along the beach to get delicious drinks! And the beach by the coffee shop is perfect for shell hunting/coral gathering. Everything about this house is so welcoming & peaceful. The outdoor shower is also a slice of heaven. Zip lining is a must. We went on the "wikiwiki 2 hour one but wished we had gone on the larger "tree top" tour. The Farmers Markets are the only place you should buy your fruits/veggies! For a posh evening go the Regis resort in Princeville, watch the sunset & dirk a pineapple mojito. Mahalo, Isabelle Brosnahan Colorado

It is rare today to have an experience that exceeds your expectations. Your North Shore Cottage did that. Your attention to detail shows! The comfortable bed with nice sheets made for a dreamy nice sleep. The kitchen was well equipped and had everything needed for wonderful meals- after a busy day it was nice to relax and make a light meal while drinking a fine wine (from Costco). We enjoyed swimming at Ke'e Beach, the hike (2 mile) to Hanakapiai Beach, sunset St Regis, Queens Baths, and strolling Hanalei beach (bring an umbrella!). Luckily our vacation is not over-we are headed to the South Shore-for more beautiful sites. Mahalo, Brad and Sue Draper Bloomfield Hills, MI P.S. Thank you Doug and Beverly, we had a fantastic time. I must make a special mention of all the help and great advice that Patricia gave us. She was wonderful. Mahalo, Alex

Aloha Beverly! I apologize for the late response; I wanted to wait to reply until I had a picture that I wanted to share... We had an incredible time at your cottage; in fact (you may have read this in your guest book) we ended up getting married on the lanai! You may remember that we were planning on getting married on Tunnels Beach but it was POURING rain on the evening that our wedding was to take place. I was a bit disappointed at first as I have always envisioned a beach wedding but your lanai was a perfect back up location! Thanks again for having such a beautiful cottage; we will be back--probably more than once! Mahalo! Jamie & Chuck Valenta

Hi Doug and Beverly, We've just arrived home after a truly wonderful stay at Hale Aloha in Kauai. Thank you for the opportunity to stay in your beautiful home. Patricia was very gracious and we really appreciated all of her great advice on things to see and do on the island. She really helped make us feel at home. We definitely plan to return to the island in the future and will most definitely keep your lovely home in mind for our next stay. Thanks again. Jaime Hopkins

Aloha, This Cottage will always hold a special place in our heart-we got married on the lanai due to a downpour at Tunnels Beach! We absolutely loved this place-amazingly beautiful & serene. What a great place to start our marriage! Mahalo! Love, Jamie & Chuck Valenta of Bellingham, WA
