My House “is a 300 years old cave-house in the heart of the unique village of Oia. Despite the central location, the house sits in a secluded and serene setting with fantastic view over the Caldera and the Aegean.
Its sculpted rock architecture (restored in 2008) creates a house of 50 sq m. The original structure of the house has been preserved with respect. Modern facilities have been added to satisfy guest’s needs and aesthetics.
The house consists of a master double-bedroom, isolated from the main house, a living room with two sofa beds, a fully equipped kitchen, a dining area and a bathroom, making the indoor living comfortable and pleasant for 4 people. Another one double-bedroom (the White Room) with its bathroom is located outside of the cave house and can accommodate one more couple.

IT IS SITUATED ON THE EDGE OF THE CLIFFS. Its private terrace offers uninterrupted view of the Caldera, its volcanic islets and the Aegean horizon. This terrace is covered by a huge fuchsia bougainvillea that enhances privacy and tranquility. In its shade six people can enjoy breakfast, lunch or dinner around a white marble table. The silence is occasionally broken by the sounds of the tolling bells from the nearby blue domed church, waves lapping on the volcanic shore or by the gentle purring of the fishing boats that glide across the Caldera. From the second level terrace the wide panoramic view is breathtaking.

DISTANCES
OIA is 17 Km from Santorin’s airport, and 15 Km from Athinios’ port. (We can organize your transportation if you wish.)
A rental car is recommended to get around the island for the most convenience, but bus service is available to most locations. There is a bus stop in the village 5 minute walk from the house. Taxi cabs are available, but are limited and waiting times may be lengthy. There are numerous rental car companies on the island, and a rental car can be arranged for your stay.

My house is situated in one of the best spot of the old Oia village. In 2-6 minutes walking distance you reach nice small restaurants, bars, mini-markets, galleries, taxi and bus station and free parking area.
In the house you will find a private guide with all tips for the beautiful spots of the island which will help you to enjoy an unforgettable vacation in Santorini.

A special home in a special place

Guest: Colin (San Francisco, CA)

What a neat home located right in Oia. The pictures don't lie; it's built into the cliffs like a cave. Walking distance from many of the shops and restaurants in the area but quietly tucked away down a staircase that is trickled with other cute Oia homes. It's clean, well furnished, and decorated inside. It has a cute two-part door so you can leave the top part open for the breeze and view. And the view is amazing...just step out to the patio and you can take in that picturesque Santorini caldera. Antonia was very helpful with connecting us with a rental car and transportation from the airport, who also helped show us to our rooms (this is no small benefit for those who arrive in the evening...it is difficult to navigate Oia in the dark when every staircase looks the same!). The only reason I give 4 stars was that there was confusion about the bedrooms. I had expected 2BR+2BA but the 2nd BR/BA was closed off. I asked about this upon arrival and I was told I was being charged the single-room rate but it would have been nice to know in advance.

Reliving a Dream

Guest: Brian (Toronto and San Miguel de Allende, Mexico)
Date of Stay: 05/08/11 Review Submitted: 08/29/11

I almost hesitate to write this review in case Antonia's wonderful little cave house is booked the next time I want to return. Last May I returned to Oia and Santorini to relive a dream summer I spent there in 1984. I was not disappointed. While the place I stayed that summer has become an overpriced Relais et Chateaux hotel, I was able to stay in perfect comfort in Antonia's grandmother's renovated traditional cave house at a fraction of the cost. Antonia was most helpful as the owner in making the booking and as a host when she came to Oia for a visit and took me to an out-of-the-way restaurant frequented by locals for a delicious dinner. The pictures on the vrbo website show the house as you will find it...maybe the bougainvillea might not be in full bloom if you come as early in the season as I did....decorated with taste and care. The location is perfect for accessing everything in town. The 40-plus steps up to the main street level, which I named the StairMaster, provide daily aerobic activity. The house next door was empty when I was there but the neighboring small hotel's guests and staff passed the end of my terrace on a regular basis but did not deter from the enjoyment of the spectacular view from any of my vantage points either from my deck chair or from the banquette behind the outdoor dining table. Antonia is trying to work out a solution to the high cost of allowing unlimited use of the washer (unavailable to me at the time of my booking) on an island where water is at a premium. Internet service was not operative for most of my visit...com problem that could occur anywhere....but I was able to tap into the next-door hotel's wireless service after making friends with the waiter who passed my terrace about 40 times a day....an added bonus. Antonia was available via email and did her best to rectify problems and facilitate any of my needs. I only had to speak with others staying elsewhere on the island to be reminded how fortunate I was to be where I was. I made friends with the young employees of one of the most unique and atmospheric bookstores (Atlantis) and connected with a wonderful yoga teacher (Cassandra) and her family and found an amazing restaurant with first-class quality food (Floga) where I ate over and over again. I could have eaten in a different restaurant for every meal for the 20 days I spent in Oia and have eaten well, so great are the choices. Antonia has created a magical home in an enduringly magical place.

Beautiful View and Great Location - no A/C or fans

Guest: T & J (Georgia, U.S.A.)
Date of Stay: 07/31/11 Review Submitted: 08/08/11

The view is simply indescribable. The location is great in Oia just down from the pedestrian shopping in the middle of town. I mistakenly thought there would be air conditioning, but there was not so be warned if it is July or August sleeping can be uncomfortable. There are no fans (even after we inquired.) We ended up leaving the outside doors open to allow in air. Although it says credit cards accepted, they are not so you have to pay in cash. The Oia ATM was out of money for several days making it difficult and stressful to pay. Bottom line is we loved Oia and the price for the home was good based upon Oia prices, however, not having air conditioning might have been worth the difference in rates.

Donna from Baddeck,Nova Scotia

I have spent 31 of the most wonderful days of my 61years in Antonia's traditonal cave house in Oia on the Island of Santorini. My adventure started on the 17th of March, finding my accomodations everything as described on the vrbo site and then some as there are no words that could do justice to the view from my lower deck. The people, the place, the food was fantastic. As for the weather it was a little windier than I expected and I could have brought a warm jacket but it only got better as each day passed.I highly recommend the trek from Oia to Fira along the edge of the caldera,a visit to Thirasia, all the steps wherever they led.Thank you Antonia for the wonderful visit,Donna

A Unique Place

Guest: OP (London)
Date of Stay: 07/26/09 Review Submitted: 02/23/11

This is a truly unique place, perched on the cliff top with stunning views, a flight of steps from the main street of Oia. It is one of the few places I have been to where the pictures do not over sell the reality and, Idyllic as the website description sounds, it actually gives a fair picture of the place - even down to the 'gentle purring of the fishing boats' in the Caldera below. The accommodation is simple and the volcanic rock out of which it is carved makes it naturally cool which is a welcome relief from the the heat. No cars are allowed in the old part of Oia but the parking, on the edge of the village, is only a few minutes' walk. Oia itself is a very special place - ideal for a romantic holiday or a quite get-away and I would say this is one of the best spots to enjoy it. I have many happy memories of my stay on the island and one of the most memorable is of the cave house.

Eschewing the Predictable

Guest: ali (London)
Date of Stay: 07/22/06 Review Submitted: 02/23/11

I first stayed at Antonia's cave house in 2006 and I have been spending my holidays there ever since. The house exudes a distinctive ambiance that is perfectly attuned to that of the pretty village of Oia. It offers a unique aesthetic experience which holds the promise of a holiday that transcends ordinary living environments. The breathtaking view from the terrace is full of romantic charm. I took my boyfriend there in 2009 and he was delighted. We went back the following summer and we are planning on staying there this coming summer holiday, as well. It is ideal for couples and for family holidays. If you are looking for an exceptional destination and an unparalleled holiday experience, then Antonia's cave house is the place to stay.

Heaven on Earth!

Guest: Jessie Wallis (Melbourne, Austraia)
Date of Stay: 08/22/10 Review Submitted: 02/21/11

I have stayed in Antonia's amazing cave house in August 2010 and I loved it so much I am planning a trip with my parents in June of this year. My stay there was the closest I have been to paradise on earth. The location is unbeatable, the most sort after place in Santorini = restaurants only steps away, renowned sunset views and a peaceful relaxing environment. The interior is always cool, very comfortable and is simply and beautifully decorated. The best aspect of the property was the outdoor area. I could spend months relaxing in the shade gazing at the most extraordinary view and never get bored. After travelling through Europe for 6 months Antonia's place was one of the best places I stayed. I HIGHLY recommend it to anyone visiting Santorini (young or old). You will not regret it!
