This old villa was completely restored in 2000 and was previously one of the old convents of Barga, standing just below the Duomo (cathedral). The location of Villa Speranza on the walled perimeter of the ancient centro storico (Old Town) accounts for the superlative views over the surrounding hills.
Barga is an ideal location from which to explore the Cinque Terre, Florence, Pisa, Lucca and the sandy beaches of the Mediterranean coast. The great national park of the Apuane mountains offers stupendous hiking and the ski resort of Abetone is only an hour away.
The property has been restored to a high standard while maintaining its unique character and offers luxury with every modern convenience. The rooms are spacious and adorned with Tuscan paintings and some are furnished with fine antique furniture. The views over the surrounding hills are stupendous but the calm and peaceful traffic-free piazza fronting the villa is only 3 minutes walk from all the shops, restaurants and facilities of the town.
The fine Barga swimming pool complex is also within easy walking distance. The villa has an excellent heating system and is warm in winter but cool in summer owing to its thick walls and the fact that Barga stands at an elevation of over 400 metres (1300 feet). Apartment guests enjoy a first floor terrace which is ideal for relaxing with a good book or an evening aperitif watching the sun go down.
Barga is ideal for those looking for the unique experience of living in a small mediaeval town with a peaceful environment but with a lively programme of activities. Barga has it’s own 18th century theatre and is renowned for its summer opera and jazz festivals and medieaval costume pagents such as the summer crossbow competition which is attended by teams from all over Italy. The restaurants of the area offer traditional Tuscan food and wines at easily affordable prices for the family.
