Enjoy your vacation at our peaceful home on the Big Thompson River, just a short walk from Rocky Mountain National Park. You'll have access to 12 acres of shared wooded grounds, a playground and picnic area with fire ring, plus a quarter-mile of private river frontage!

Our home is light, bright, and spacious, with vaulted ceilings and lots of windows to enjoy the views. The Wind River cabin is fifty yards from the river and offers mountain views as well.

On the main level you'll find a fully equipped kitchen, dining area, and a comfortable living room where you can watch cable TV or build a fire in the moss rock fireplace. This level has BEDROOM 1, with a king bed and adjoining full bathroom.

Upstairs are Bedrooms 2 and 3, both with vaulted ceilings for a spacious feel. Both bedrooms have doors to a connecting bathroom with double sinks and an oversized walk-in shower. BEDROOM 2 has a queen bed and views of Eagle Cliff Mountain. BEDROOM 3 is quite large and decorated with a bear theme. It can sleep up to four in one queen bed, one twin bed, and a twin-size trundle that pulls out from under the twin bed. The trundle is a great option for young children who aren't quite ready for a "big bed." This room has its own TV with DVD player. We also have a booster high chair and pack-and-play available for your use.

What's a day like at the Wind River cabin? Start with morning coffee on the deck as you watch the hummingbirds. Then put on your hiking shoes and walk along the river and into Rocky Mountain National Park. A short walk takes you to Moraine Park, one of the prime wildlife viewing areas in the national park. In summer, you can avoid traffic altogether – walk to the Moraine Park Museum, catch the shuttle bus, and ride to any trailhead on Bear Lake Road.

If you fish, you'll enjoy the quarter-mile of private river frontage just steps away. Cook up your trout on the grill and dine outside at the picnic table on the deck. Our kitchen has bakeware, pots and pans, and a full complement of utensils. When you don't feel like cooking, you can walk across the street to the Dunraven Inn, a family-friendly Italian restaurant. Or, downtown Estes Park is only 2.5 miles away.

Stay at least a week if you can – you'll find lots to do. Thanks for visiting us. We look forward to hearing from you!

ANSWERS TO FAQs ABOUT OUR HOUSE AND LOCATION:
We affectionately call our home the "Wind River Cabin," but it is a fully modern house built in 1998. It is one of about 25 houses in a small, covenant-protected community spread across 12 private acres. As our guest you have full access to the shared grounds, including the large picnic area and playground by the river, volleyball and horseshoes, and a fire ring that can be reserved upon your arrival. We do have neighboring homes on either side, about 30 feet away, but NO homes in front of or behind our house. We have incredible views! Our home sits up above the Big Thompson River, and your view down to the river is unobstructed except for a few beautiful Ponderosa pine trees. You can see and hear the river from almost every window in the house, and it is a very short walk to the water. You can fish on the property. Our community is a mix of vacation rentals, second homes, and full-time residences. The location is private and quiet yet only a 5-minute drive to town. Our deck has an outdoor grill. There is no hot tub.

this house was very nice, so here is what you want to know, great wood burning fireplace, very comfy beds, tons of hot water, plenty of everything you could need , towels, pots pans, cleaning supplies. could use a small first aid kit, and the grill needs some work. caught my first 18" rainbow trout , several browns and brooks, even a lucky cut throught. toys and vidios were all there for kids, and very close to town but far enough away to give you the true Rocky mountain experience! great, great place. wish it were mine!!!!

Planned a family get-together for 6 adults and 2 children. The house was perfect. We could'nt have asked for anything better. The home was very well stocked with everything we needed, and there was plenty of room for all of us to move around. The property around the house was lovely with the river in view and we even saw a flock of turkeys. We would definitely stay here again.

Wonderful Family Getaway!

Date of Stay: 06/05/11 Review Submitted: 06/22/11

We had two families (including four kids from 6-10 years old) stay here for a weeklong vacation House was super comfortable and accommodated us perfectly. It was great to be tucked in the woods, but still short driving distance to RMNP and Estes Park. We didn't know understand why everyone made such a big deal out of the YMCA being 5 min away . . . until we got there. Turns out to be what our the kids enjoyed the most-- orienteering, knot tying, archery, most amazing art center, breathtaking location. The owner was very nice and *incredibly* helpful before and during our stay. We highly recommend!

Wow! We had such a fabulous time at this property. Perfect location, and just right for our party of grandparents, parents and kids. My family has been going to Estes for over 10 years and this is by far our favorite so far. The house was beautifully decorated and up-to-date with newer furnishings and amenities - too many other places in Estes are just OLD and kinda kitschy. We had a great view of the river and the mountains, and we loved being able to walk into the park. The owner was super-helpful and sent lots of info before our stay, and the welcome booklet answered our questions once we arrived. The maps and guidebooks they provided were a nice touch too. We went in May and saw elk on the property every day and even a flock of turkeys that strutted down the road in front the house early every morning! The higher trails still had snow but it was a great time to visit - quiet and peaceful. We already booked a weekend to return this fall!

Very Nice Accomodations!

Date of Stay: 08/15/10 Review Submitted: 08/26/10

Our group of six adults and two toddlers really enjoyed staying in this lovely home in mid August. Everything was very nice and well maintained. The bedrooms were very cozy and comfortable and the bathrooms were spacious. Everything is as it appears in the photos and the home made for a very relaxing and fun vacation. The owner is wonderful to work with...she is very helpful and answers any questions you might have. The little ones loved playing at the playground. We saw plenty of elk on the property if you like wildlife.... and one in particular who seemed to own the place! Estes, in our opinion, is one of the best places to vacation with your family. We have been vacationing there since our own grown children were small. Recommendations include hiking at Bear Lake, Wild Basin and the Alluvial Fan, boating on Lake Estes, eating BBQ at "Smokin Dave's", walking around downtown Estes while eating ice cream, and just chilling on the deck with your family. All in all a lovely stay at a very nice home. Thanks very much!

We could not have asked for more!!! The house was extremely comfortable for our group and in immaculate condition. We had the river, the playground and downtown all very close by. As a group that travels together from time to time for various activities, we look for something that is comfortable for the children with enough room for the adults--and this was it! We will definitely stay here again if it is available.

Great Vacation Home!!

Date of Stay: 04/25/10 Review Submitted: 06/12/10

Our family had a great time staying at this home! It was very well decorated with lots of upgrades, had very comfortable high end linens, a well equipped kitchen, and great amenities on the property. We had four adults and 2 kids in our party and the house was perfect for our size. The river was a very short walk away...you could hear it when the windows were open and we also enjoyed using the playground and fire pit located on the grounds. It was a very relaxing, peaceful home. Looking out the living room window was a great view of the river and the mountains. The home was nestled in a quiet little valley, but close to everything you need in Estes Park. We didn't hike into RMNP since we had young kids with us but it was very close to Moraine Park and the YMCA of the Rockies. We stayed in April when the weather in Estes in unpredictable, but we got a little bit of everything! We enjoyed fishing in the river on the warmer days, went sledding in RMNP on the day it snowed, hiked Bible Point and rode horses at the Y. It was a great vacation! The owners were very easy to deal with, quick in all of their responses to us, and were accommodating to all of our needs. Everything was exactly as described, clean, with nice furnishings. It didn't feel like a rental but instead a friends home...very welcoming and comfortable. We would highly recommend this home and will be staying there again in the future!
