Charming Victorian house

Guest: St. Louis Traveller (St. Louis)
Date of Stay: 10/20/11 Review Submitted: 10/28/11

My family recently stayed in this wonderful house. It fit our needs perfectly and made our family reunion quite enjoyable. All the rooms were as descirbed. The garage access was necessary as street parking is quite a challenge. Great documentation on the house and surrounding businesses. We will no doubt rent this property again. One suggestion is for the owner to put into the description that bars of bath soap are not provided...a minor critique to an overall excellent property.

Great place to stay in San Francisco

Six of us had a week in SF and this was a great base to play tourist. Good position close to Hays Valley for some excellent resturants. Bus stop outside so easy access to the transport system and all of San Francisco, once you've worked it out(Muni pass is great value). House was everthing we needed full of character, clean & very spacious. Lots of useful information from Cathy was much appreciated. Definately to be recommended.

We had a lovely four nights in San Francisco and thoroughly enjoyed staying at this wonderful house. It was beautifull presented, everything was clean and immaculate. It was very homely and we had plenty of room. Travelling with three younger children, it is difficult for us to go out at night after sightseeing all day, but it was wonderful to come home to such a lovely home with lots of San Francisco charm. We were able to get take away or cook, and the children could relax (they loved the upstairs living area, it was like their own "den". The owners were lovely people, very helpful. Thanks for the use of the computer and all the helpful information you provided us as well. Highly recommend!

San Francisco charm

I highly recommend this historic home in Alamo Square. The home is located in the Hayes Valley neighborhood and has a great location and easy access to all of San Fran. I brought my wife, mother in law and daughters for 9 days while I worked in Santa Clara. It had the feel and charm of an old historic San Fran home. Plenty of room for 3 adults and 2 small kids. We will definitely consider this home for future trips to the Bay area for work or pleasure.

Gorgeous apartment, great location, amazing city!!

Myself and 4 friends rented this gorgeous apartment for 3 nights to celebrate my birthday, and can thoroughly recommend it. The apartment is lovely and spacious, the kitchen is brilliant, all the amenities you could wish for, and even better it's all in a brilliant location. Hayes Valley - just a few blocks away - is a super little groovy area with some lovely shops and yummy restaurants (a bit like Soho in NYC, albeit on a smaller scale!) and having the bus stop back from the city centre stopping right outside our door was such a bonus! Love San Francisco but those hills were slowing killing us!! Probably the only teeny tiny negative is that we couldn't work out how to switch the heating on - we got the fire in the living room going, but were a little chilly later on in the evenings elsewhere in the house. Other than that we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend this fabulous apartment!

Great for a family visit in San Francisco

This was a wonderful location for our 2 adults/ 2kids (11/6) stay in SF with room to spare. Will easily accomodate 3 kids or another adult/nanny. The attic area provides great opportunities for the parents and kids to have some separate time during a long trip. The owners provide all the necessary information, dining details etc and make you really feel at home. Very easy public transport access to all tourist areas while still being in a residential area. Only problem was our kids didn't want to leave the house to go sightseeing. The house exceeded our expectations and we would definitely recommend it to everyone. "Stacks" on Hayes St for breakfast was great and Absinthe is a great special dinner option.

2 memorable weeks

Date of Stay: 09/05/09 Review Submitted: 09/22/09

The location of the property was excellent, easy access with the (bus) Muni 5 (at the door) to downtown or the beach, Muni 24 ( a few blocks away) to Castro/Mission. A great bus ride through the hills with the 24 brought us to the Liberty Café ( On Cortland ave. in Bernal Heights) - Nice little breakfast place (30 places or so) with great food and service. Great city to walk as well! The property is sparkling clean and well maintained. Walking around we discovered good and affordable restaurants; Alamo Square Seafood Grill(French), Saffron Grill (Indian) opened 8 month ago. In Haight/Ashbury - The Magnolia (1398 Haight) is recommended for a beer and some time out to write or read. The owners recommended amongs others, Seafood Grill and Little Box Pizza (excellent as well). For the nightLife, we had booked 2 shows; BeachBlanket Babylon- a hillarious musical Cabaret and The Rrazz Room at the Nikko hotel - a small intimate hall to see and hear Spencer Day. Great performer and great voice! Spencer should be at the Mtl Jazz festival next summer. The King Tut exhibit (Toutankhamon) at the Young Museum was a little disappointing. I suggest to anyone to go to the boutique, look at the book of the exhibit and decide if it is worth your while - Out of the 10 rooms - Only the last 4 contain very few breathtaking artefacts from the tomb of King Tut. I would without any hesitation recommend this property to anyone who's active (25-30 steps to get in the condo on the third floor) and loves to walk. The Golden Gate Park is magnificent with the Conservatory of flowers, Japanese Tea garden, the Aids Memorial Grove and more. September was a great month to go there with one surprising night of thunder and lightning . Great place, great location, great city and the best 50th birthday gift!

Catherine, Thanks for sharing your wonderful Victorian home. Three generations of our family enjoyed connecting again, working sudoku, and touring the city together. We were an engineer, an artist, a grandmother, a runner, and a college student. Each found your house intriguing. We appreciated the artwork, comfortable beds, computer/printer, great location and charming decor. What a great week in San Francisco!

Catherine, What a beautiful apartment!! We settled in and felt like we were at home immediately. The beds were comfortable, the kitchen well appointed and the large dining room was a plus. Even our two year old granddaughter had fun. The toys, the port-a-crib and safety gates let us relax and enjoy. It was a great family time in wonderful surroundings. Janice

I stayed in this property in April of '09 with my family (5 with three kids). It was just as advertised by Catherine Woods, who does a great job of supporting the property and her guests. Very nicely equipped kitchen for those who choose to eat in, and two good groceries (one upscale, one very nice Safeway) nearby. Comfortable furnishings and bedding. This is a good location from which to explore SF. On street parking close to the door is available on occasion, and the dedicated parking spot 1.5 blocks away works nicely when street parking is tough. A large, nicely furnished, comfortable home away from home in SF-our kids loved it.

Dearest Catherine, Our family of 8 fell in love with your house the minute we set foot into it. It is beautiful and so comfortable- the perfect place for a great family bonding time. Loved how thoughtful you were in putting every single detail into place. We appreciated much the use of a laptop and internet connection, really beyond our expectations. Mom enjoyed cooking a couple of meals in your lovely kitchen and the rest enjoyed the comfort of home cooked food, especially my sister who joined us from London. My kids, 9 and 7, were absolutely thrilled with the witches turret and the huge room plus gigantic TV that they were in. They became pretty territorial over this room, such that, the adults had to fight them for it. All in, It's been and amazing stay at your house and we enjoyed exploring San Francisco, even venturing out on bicycle. Hope we can come back again some day and will definitely recommend your home to others. With much love and thanks, The Leong Family

Our family had an absolutely fabulous stay at this home. The home was extremely well-kept, clean and beautiful. Not only were we provided with all necessities, we were delighted to see small little touches that truly did make this house a cosy home. The location was also perfect- right outside was a bus stop, Alamo square was merely a few minutes walk, as were the local shops. Our hosts were also delightful and very accommodating. I would most definitely stay here again in the future. Thanks so much for this gem of a place!

The house was wonderful. We really enjoyed it. It was really great for the kids too. Although we were concerned about the stairs to the upper level at first, it all went well even with our 2.5 yr old, who very much appreciated the Thomas set. The only thing I would suggest is to fix the sliding doors from the master to the sitting room so they close properly. A bit of a lack of privacy due to that.

Owner response:I'm terribly sorry to hear you had a problem with the sliding doors. We have had them repaired. I wish you had told us during your stay so that we could rectified the problem immediately.

Dear Catherine, These weeks that we spent in San Francisco have been wonderful. Thanks you for renting us your lovely house. Our family enjoyed the city and it was very good to come "home" every night. Much better and comfortable than a hotel, especially for a big family like ours and especially for a long trip like this one. Your house is beautiful. Very well located. We really enjoyed all of its details! We hope we can come back again some day, we hope we can make it in summer time!! The Christensen Family.

We had a great time staying in this house. Even though my husband and I live close by, our place is too tiny to accommodate guests so my parents usually have to stay in a hotel. This time we were all able to stay together in a beautiful and comfortable San Francisco victorian. Everything in the house is well maintained and high quality. The bed linens were a big hit with the whole family as was the well-stocked kitchen. We really appreciated the lovely bottle of wine that Catherine left for us! This house is in a great location- very central. You can walk to Alamo Square (1 block) and take in the SF view or you can head down to Hayes Valley for coffee shops, boutiques and restaurants. It is also quite close to Golden Gate Park, North Beach, Embarcadero and the Castro. The parking spot was a huge plus! It was just one less thing to worry about. Overall, we had a wonderful experience and I would recommend staying here to my friends and family.

Our stay in December, 2008 was simply wonderful. The location could not have been better. We rented a vehicle for our stay and the garage 1 block away was great. The children loved the turret with the big TV. Everything was spacious and clean and the beds were oh sooooo comfortable! The park one block away was great for the kids too. When we return, this would be the property we would stay at. Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful home! Kim Downers Grove, Illinois

I cannot say enough wonderful things about Catherine and this property! The home was beautiful and more than met the needs of myself and the 5 other women I travelled with. Catherine was a fabulous host offering helpful suggestions about restaurants, transportation etc. and even leaving a lovely bottle of wine! I am so glad that we decided to stay here versus a hotel as it offered every ammenity we could need and want. It might not have been right in Union square but we quickly discovered that transportation to everything was a breeze and no hassle at all! We had an amazing trip and will definitely come back to this property should we find ourselves in San Francisco again!

This appartment is absolutely fabulous. We were there in September for our daughter's wedding and truly had an amazing time. The appartment is spacious, well equipped and was more than enough for the 6 of us. We had the opportunity to have up to 8 people for dinner which enabled us to entertain while we were there. Our newly weds enjoyed the master suite and our younger daughter was happy to be able to use Internet. I also took advantage of internet to book tickets for Alcatraz which was much more convenient than waiting in line on Peer 33. The bus stop is right at the door and brings you straight downtown, another big plys
