The Dreamery is a "Dream"

Guest: Susie S.
Date of Stay: 03/01/12 Review Submitted: 03/23/12

What a quiet serene sanctuary to call "home" for a few short days. Every attention to detail has been made to ensure our stay was a pleasant one. What a surprise when I found such a well equipped kitchen, including an assortment of baking pans, trays, wonderful pots and pans as well as all the "little things" you need when cooking including sharp knives. The Dreamery is extremely clean and comfortable. Both bedrooms had very comfortable accomodations and nice linens. Plenty of towels including extra towels for the hot tub. While our stay was focused on visiting the wineries, I want to return just to savor the beauty of the property itself. Nestled among the Sequoia's and Redwoods, the dreamery is quiet and the spledid beauty of Austin Creek was welcomed. Thank You Andrew for sharing such a beautiful retreat! Definitely recommended...I hope to return soon!

Owner response:A sanctuary, in its original meaning, is a sacred place. It's a good description for what the Dreamery offers ... and I broaden it to include a respite from the hectic pace of modern life. These days, it's more important than ever to take little breaks. My hope is that a few days of peace and serenity at “the Dreamery” will help guests slow down, reconnect with nature, uplift their spirits, and enjoy quality time with friends and loved ones. Please know that you will be welcomed back.

Another fabulous stay at The Dreamery

Guest: Tracy K.
Date of Stay: 02/17/12 Review Submitted: 02/20/12

Another restful weekend at The Dreamery. We thoroughly enjoyed the sunny winter weather -- as we were expecting a cozy weekend by the fire playing games and reading while the rain fell outside. Instead we ran, hiked, played tennis, and shopped. Since our “home away from home” (Raymond’s Bakery) was temporarily closed, we explored Duncans Mills more closely and were thrilled with the Gold Coast Bakery and The Blue Heron. Everything (again) at The Dreamery was superb, sublime. We feel so cared for here, and we notice and appreciate all the touches -- little and big. Really, you shouldn’t own just a vacation home -- you need to run a whole inn! We’d move in! PS. Our daughter was so taken with the bonsai that she drew you a watercolor picture. It's in the guestbook. -- The Kaplans

Owner response:Please thank your daughter for the watercolor. It's very sweet. I love it when guests slow down enough to be creative like that. The Dreamery is a place to breathe deeply, pay attention to nature, and get into the "here and now" of the present moment. You and your family really "get it." (P.S. I think I was an innkeeper in a past life.)

Fabulous Retreat Topped by Amazing In-Home Massage

Guest: Tanya & Richard, San Carlos, Calif.

We had a blissful weekend at this sweet spot. The hot tub was tucked in between these amazing Redwood trees. The creak was soothing, cool and refreshing. The beds were comfortable and the personal in-house massages provided by Julie were phenomenal. We highly recommend the combination of this cozy home, Redwood trees, hot tub, beautiful creek and amazing massages.

A Relaxing Honeymoon Retreat

Guest: A H Shaver - San Francisco, California
Date of Stay: 06/08/11 Review Submitted: 02/21/12

My husband and I stayed here for our honeymoon. We loved the fact that it is so close to San Francisco, where we live, but felt like it was a world away. It was so very relaxing to spend time every day in the hot tub and watch hawks soar above the trees. Everything was well stocked from the kitchen to the book shelves. One of the best parts was that it is a pet-free rental, very hard to find, but very important when someone has an allergy.

Amazing scenic views, with a relaxing quiet atmosphere.

Guest: stratcat (Oakland)
Date of Stay: 04/02/11 Review Submitted: 04/05/11

My wife and daughter visited The Dreamery and were instantly amazed at what Andrew has done with this place. It provided a calming and relaxing getaway from our daily hectic life. We cannot say enough good things about it, highly recommended with all the amenities you could ask for. We will definitely be coming back for a longer stay.

Owner response:I so appreciate the kind words. Thank you for the care and respect you showed the property. In the interests of full disclosure ... a word of caution for prospective guests with young children: The house is NOT child proof. It doesn't have child-proof latches on the cabinet doors and drawers, laundry and household cleaners are not kept behind locked doors, there are stairs without baby gates, the deck is not baby proofed. The TV is not anchored with baby straps, The fireplace and concrete fireplace hearth do not have a child-proof gate, etc. We don't want to discourage families with young children, but we also do not want to give the false impression that the house and furnishings have been designed specifically for kids.

Great spring retreat at the Dreamery

Guest: Timothy W. (Austin, TX)
Date of Stay: 03/17/11 Review Submitted: 03/23/11

My family (husband, wife, two teenage daughters) had a wonderful 3 days at the Dreamery. Andrew greated us at the property and gave us a brief tour and introduction. In hindsight, he has everything so well labled with instructions, it was hardly necessary. He has thought of everything from firewood to laundry facilities. We did not need for anything and completely enjoyed the beautiful environment and comfortable home. It was very relaxing and peaceful. The only thing we could have wished for better was the weather as it was unusually rainy during our stay. We enjoyed it nonetheless and hope to visit again in the future.

Owner response:Alas, the weather is beyond my control, but the fact that you had a "relaxing and peaceful" visit during what turned out to be the worst storm of the year says as much about you and your family and is does about your enjoyment of the Dreamery. Honestly, one of my favorite times to be at the property is during a storm. Thank you again for your visit and for leaving the cottage in great shape!

Perfection!

Guest: Pam (Boston, MA)
Date of Stay: 01/20/11 Review Submitted: 02/06/11

My fiance and I were in need of a very relaxing, quiet vacation and when we found The Dreamery we knew we had found the perfect place! However, when we got there it was so much more than we had expected! From the robes hung in the closet for us, the cup of birdseed for the birds that like to spend time on the deck, to the warm water bottles in the bed - it was all the little extra touches that made The Dreamery so special. The house is immaculate and has been updated with great care, and the owner and rental company are extremely helpful, caring, and amazing. I would strongly recommend a stay at The Dreamery to anyone that needs (or wants) to restore a peaceful balance to their life! We look forward to staying at The Dreamery again in the future! **CAR RENTAL IS A MUST!!** *We recommend: A hike in the Armstrong Woods, The Blue Heron restaurant, The Rivers End restaurant, the bakery that is down the road, a drive down the coast, horseback riding, a canopy tour, and (of course) wine tasting! There is a great little store that is on the way to the Blue Heron on the right hand side of the road (all the sign says is wine tasting) that is excellent - the owner can give you a map and guidance to great vineyards! Also, if you do want to go wine tasting make sure to stop at Porter Creek vineyards!*

Owner response:Pam and Ethan traveled half way around the globe (on leave from service in Iraq) to visit the Dreamery. All of us feel honored for the opportunity we had to serve YOU! Wishing you both an early and safe return to your loved ones.

Magical interlude in the Redwoods

Guest: Anne O. (San Francisco)
Date of Stay: 10/20/10 Review Submitted: 11/02/10

The Dreamery is aptly named,as it truly is a unique property hidden off the main Cazadero road. The setting is amazingly beautiful, with Japanese inspired landscaping to the front of the property and the wonderful beach leading to the shores of Austin Creek. Towering redwoods frame the house and the decks, and it was lovely to look through the branches at night(in the well positioned hot tub!) to count the stars. The interior is also Asian inspired and very tastefully appointed. Andrew's beautiful arrangements added a lovely touch to this serene setting. Sitting in front of the fire and looking out the windows at sunset was something we will not soon forget. We had everything we needed for a stay that was way too short and are planning to return as soon as we can!

Owner response:Thank you Anne and Scot. Reading your review allowed me to fall in love all over again -- vicariously, through your experience of it -- with a place that is dear to my heart.

Date of Stay: 10/18/10 Review Submitted: 12/15/10

We have loved this place, and even more the welcome you have created for your guests, the gentle music, the invitation to be here, to care for ourselves, and to care for this space you have made precious. We walked in the garden, along the creek, and to the waterfall, lounged in the hot tub, made a fire, and watched movies. We drove to the mouth of the river and to the sea. We have enjoyed each other and much more. We feel connected to this home, organized in such a way that we can truly feel at home, at rest, at peace. This was a precious 60th birthday gift.

Owner response:Thank you for the kind words. You really got into the spirit of the place. The creek, the redwood forest -- and the invitation to just be here -- all of it awaits your return.

Guest: Anonymous
Date of Stay: 10/02/10 Review Submitted: 10/16/10

My fiancée and I were looking for a relaxing getaway in wine country. The Dreamery certainly lives up to it's namesake. The owners have not left a stone unturned. The house has everything you would need and the decor is beautiful. We loved having a fire each night and relaxing out on Austin Creek. My fiancée loves the gardens as he is a landscape archiect. Having lived in Japan I really enjoyed the overall feel of the the home. Thank you so much for sharing your amazing home with us! We hope to be again in the future.

Owner response:Dear Christina & Patrick, thank you so much for your visit and the kind words. It was my pleasure to host you. The creek, the redwoods, and the garden all look forward to your return.

“Such a lovely, serene, and charming home and getaway. Much needed and just what the doctor ordered! From Day One we knew we didn’t want to leave -- ever. So we are planning our next visit. Our favorite moments? Walking in and along the creek looking at rocks, just as we did as kids over 40 years ago. Now THAT is priceless! Oh, and the outdoor shower. I'm spoiled." A Peaceful Place to "Be"

Guest: Bianca & Chris (Santa Cruz, CA)
Date of Stay: 06/09/10 Review Submitted: 07/05/10

I did quite a bit of research online for our annual Russian River trip. Although we could tell from the pictures that the Dreamery looked beautiful, we were still surprised by how beautiful it really is. We had some fabulous meals at nearby restaurants – Raymond’s bakery had awesome pizza. We loved The Blue Heron in Duncans Mills and La Jumelles in Guerneville. Last, but certainly not least, we both had fantastic massages on the deck surrounded by the redwoods by Julie Bennion – a lovely lady with a real gift for healing and relaxation. Thank you for a wonderful vacation. We’ll be back! The McCauleys, Santa Cruz, Calif.

Owner response:Yes ... Julie has a way with her massages. Some massage therapist's "knead" you ... with Julie it's more of a body/awareness "conversation" where both giver and receiver are enriched.

Deep woods experience with plenty of sunshine too

Guest: MarilynJ (Glen Ellyn, Illinois)

Thank you for providing such a thoughtfully arranged cottage. Appreciated the supplies, lovely pillows, all the pots and pans one could need -- and even back up light bulbs, candles, soap, etc. (things one forgets!) Then of course, the surprise: tasteful Japanese prints, Mission-style furniture, the tasteful screens in the hallway, square knobs on the wood cabinets (so nice to the touch and appearance). You fulfilled my dreams for a cabin deep in the redwoods, yet full of sun on the deck … sunny long enough sun for reading a book and getting a tan. And you found the best spot on Austin creek with clear water to wade in and look deep into -- or to gaze across from the deck to ponders those large redwood trunks and three rock island. The hot tub was fantastic. Ah! And thank you for the books to read on the Art of Japanese Gardening. And masseuse Julie was wonderful -- what a lovely person.

Date of Stay: 04/11/10 Review Submitted: 09/14/10

Rented the Dreamery when my parents were visiting for their 50th Wedding Anniversary. Andrew could not have been more hospitable and accommodating even when we were late arriving at the cabin. Escaping the rain, we opened the doors to a comfortably appointed cabin with a fire awaiting us. My parents were pleased and delighted by the location right on the river, the surrounding redwoods, and the deck, hot tub and outdoor shower. They were very impressed with the attention to details like the hot water bottles in the beds. Thanks Andrew, for making me look so good. The process could not have been easier, and I would highly recommend to anyone to give the Dreamery a try. Now my parents have wonderful memories of a 50th Anniversary in California that they brag about and share with all of their friends and family back in Pennsylvania.

Owner response:Fifty years of marriage is quite an accomplishment ... I was honored (and humbled) that you chose the Dreamery for such a joyous event. Thank you.

Secluded getaway in the woods

Guest: sc2000 (San Jose, CA)
Date of Stay: 03/12/10 Review Submitted: 04/15/10

The Dreamery is one of our favorite places to stay for a relaxing weekend getaway in the Russian River area. It has some gorgeous mature redwoods on the property, a private beach and spa and feels very secluded. The owners are very friendly and thoughtful and you get the feeling that this is a special place. When we take a weekend getaway, we like to cook in for breakfast and dinner. The kitchen is lacking some basic amenities, which makes it difficult to do anything too fancy, which is why I give this a good instead of excellent. They also offer in-home massage, which I highly recommend. This isn't a standard massage where you lie there and have your back rubbed (though I like those too). It's more like an active partner yoga session, which I found refreshing. Overall, I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a nice quiet, secluded weekend adventure close to lots of great hiking and fun towns like Duncans Mill, Monte Rio, and Guerneville.

You will travel far and wide to find a place as refreshing and rewarding as the Sequoia Beach Dreamery. It's like a mountain cottage, with a friendly little kitchen fully stocked with all of the things you didn't remember to bring -- (Thanks Andrew!) When you first step onto the Dreamery property, you’re greeted by the smell of redwoods, clean crisp air, a bottle of exceptional local wine, candies on your pillow, just the right dose of privacy, clean amenities, and everything just the way the brochure promised. By the second night, as we approached the cottage after our visit to the wine country and coast, it felt like we were home.

We found this rental cottage to be placed exactly where we wanted it to be for travel to the coast, getaways in the redwood forests, time in the wine country, and yet it was close enough to town that you could plan your shopping around day trips out to fabulous scenery or wine tasting in some of the best vineyards in America. We were 20 minutes from the coast and 20 minutes from the wineries.... Where else would you want to be? And it felt like a safe community even though it was such a secluded area of the country. Great mix of things. A++

Our trip was almost not to be -- we were both filled with a sense of angst ... over our high-stress jobs, our finances, ourselves. But as we walked through the front door ... all our tension DISAPPEARED. We were immediately greeted by soft music, warmth, peace and serenity. We slept like babies in the most comfortable and embracing bed we'd ever been in. We talked of our futures together and made plans to come here often. We will miss this place, but with our spirits and love renewed, we are ready to face the crazy world we live in again, knowing that your piece of heaven will always be carried with us.

I truly can't decide what was my favorite thing about this beautiful sanctuary: the outdoor hot shower in the redwoods, the deluxe outdoor spa, the creek....just a perfect way to celebrate my 10th wedding anniversary. I told my husband if he ever wanted to surprise me with a getaway that I want to come here. We will most definitely be back. A beautiful way to spend a relaxing final weekend in the USA. The peace and tranquil setting, the sound of natural running water, makes us wish to return in the future.

Coming Home Again

Our second visit was like coming "HOME" again -- the home where my heart lives. The tranquility is so soothing and healing to my soul. This is the place I come to in my mind when I need a moment's peace in my otherwise busy and hectic life. Thank you for being the guardian and host to this sacred space.

We've Been Waiting a Long Time

This was the perfect place for us to spend our honeymoon -- it was magical. We've been waiting a long time to share these moments together and it was more than I could have imagined. If sentiment could reach though paper and into a man's heart -- thank you!

This is the third time I have stayed at The Dreamery in the past year. There is no place quite like it. And not just because of the beautiful natural surroundings. I have had the good fortune to have stayed at some amazingly gorgeous places over the years. What makes The Dreamery so special is in all the little details. The home itself is such a place of comfort and peace, thanks to Andrew's wonderful zen touch. I can't wait to come back!! Thank you, Andrew!

My two daughters and I stayed at The Dreamery in March. We'd come for the Wine Barrel event for my 60th birthday gift (a gift from my husband) and the beauty and serenity of The Dreamery certainly lived up to its name! We felt so peaceful, calm & uplifted by the huge Sequoia's, the gentle creek and the peaceful zen of the decor. We hope to come back some day soon!

With serenity comes vision. A second birth. This time I will not cry. Instead breathe deep, pause Releasing all fear with a sigh. Beauty all around. Dreams manifesting reality. I am alive here, Taking with me all I found, Leaving nothing but hope For all the children within Still left to take their first Steps onto heart-shaped pebble shores.

Exploring Beauty, Exploring Ourselves

Finding hearts I did not know existed. Nakedness under the canopy of old redwoods. Freezing feet in cold winter waters. Visiting ducks. Feather beds. Exploring beauty, exploring ourselves, I found the spot of our future. See the rhododendrons!

"The beautiful collection of bonsai, mossy garden, and stream gave us a taste of Japan without the price tag. There is nothing quite like taking a hot shower outdoors under towering redwoods. Needless to say, a perfect weekend."
