Brand new kitchen - Bosch dishwasher, reverse osmosis and all GRANITE
Location: Balsam Lake, Northwest, Wisconsin, USA (Balsam Lake is About 1.5 Hours North East of Minneapolis)
Accommodations: Lodge, 6 Bedrooms + Den, 5 Baths (Sleeps 8)
Keywords: Lake Lodge
Escape to the North Woods - only an hour from the Twin Cities. This incredible new log home is appointed with knotty pine ceilings, oak floors and knotty hickory cabinets. We lovingly refer to the home as "The Lodge". There are several mounts throughout the home - Mr. Moose above the fireplace, deer, antelope, etc.
Main floor has a wet bar, an entertainment center with surround sound, and 42" flat panel TV will keep you entertained. The 16 foot stone fireplace and granite countertops throughout the kitchen complete the natural rustic feel.
The soaring vaulted ceilings are met by the trapezoid windows with the fantastic view of the lake. Watch the loons and the eagles as they pass by. Fish from the dock, or bring your boat as the public landing is a few blocks away. Balsam Lake has great fishing and there are several great restaurants close by and even accessible by boat.
The walkout level also has another wet bar in the family room with a very rustic log construction. There are several outdoor decks/patios. We have 2 docks in the lake in the summer. The shoreline is easy for kids to access and has a sandy bottom.
In the winter, bring your snowmobiles as the Gandy Dancer trails are very close by. This is the ultimate Up North escape. It is perfect for a corporate outing or a family week. Not a place for a roudy party.
Bedroom configuration is: 5 king sized beds and 1 queen size bed. Two of the king bedrooms are suites with their own bath. All bedrooms have premium linens with down comforters.
There is no daily maid service included, but is available for an additional charge.

We stayed at the house over a long weekend in September and really enjoyed ourselves. We were especially happy to have a nice house to be in since the weather was getting cooler and we had some little ones running around. The house was nice & clean. It was very nice that the towels & linens were all there. The living area is nice & big. Actually, all the rooms are plenty big. The owner was very friendly and answered all our questions. We especially enjoyed the views of the lake. Two people in our party went fishing and caught fish right from the dock. That was great. It was a very relaxing vacation and the kitchen is excellent and roomy for more than one chef. We were very happy to have rented such a clean well maintained property. We highly recommend this lake home especially for families looking for an "up-north" retreat. The listing and photos are accurate but really don’t do the place justice.
Owner response:We love to share our place with families looking for a getaway!
Recommended for:Romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, age 55+.

Our family spent a wonderful week at this beautiful cabin home in August 2009. The pictures dont do it justice - its very nicely appointed, beautifully decorated and can accommodate a good sized group very comfortably. Nice bedroom privacy on the lower level for those who like a quiet place to sleep in. There is a loft room that will be a huge hit with the kids in your group. We chose this place because it was dog-friendly and no family vacation is complete without the furkids. We went into Balsam Lake and rented a pontoon boat to tool around the lake one day - fun. We also had a lovely meal on the scenic outdoor dining patio at Paradise Landing. You are a half hour drive from the Taylors Falls recreation area if you want something active to do. There is a Walmart with groceries ten mintues away. We were there for a relaxing family gathering, and we were treated to a nice luxurious week here at this wonderful "cabin" (luxury log lodge would be a better description). The owner was very friendly, helpful and accommodating. We'd love to return - highly recommended for those who like high threadcount sheets and hot showers and cable TV for their week of "roughing it" in the woods with the family! Thanks Lisa, hope to be back soon.

We had the opportunity to stay at the Log Lake Home at the end of June and had a great time. The home is absolutely beautiful and well-furnished with everything needed. The lake view and deck made for a relaxing time anytime of the day. We would strongly recommend this home to others.

I wanted to post our comments about our stay in the Thostenson lake home during the summer of 2008. Our family had a fabulous time. The pictures posted on the website look very nice but when you actually step inside the home it is a "Wow" factor! It was fun to watch the faces of the others as they entered the home. The home has everything you need for a very comfortable stay. I loved the bonus room upstairs where the younger kids slept. The teenagers slept in the lower level and that way the little ones didn't bother the sleeping teens in the morning. There was plenty of room for everyone to spread out. The deck is large with plenty of seating. If you go out to eat we really liked the Indian Head Supper Club right in Balsam Lake. If the weather is nice ask for a table on the screened-in porch. It was beautiful! I have talked to the home owner, Lisa Thostenson, several times about our vacation before and afterwards. She is very personable and strived to make our stay very comfortable! I highly recommend this home.
