Location: Glen Arbor, Northwest, Michigan, USA (Located 30 miles west of Traverse City, Mi) View Map
Accommodations: Cottage, 3 Bedrooms + No additional sleeping rooms avail, 2 Baths (Sleeps 6)
Keywords: Chalet / Cottage
Nestled in the heart of Sleeping Bear National Lakeshore, one mile south of Sleeping Bear Dunes, a comfy three bedroom, two bath chalet awaits your first visit, one that will begin a summer tradition for years to come as it already has for many. Picture yourself awakening to the sounds of nature, the sun gently being nudged up over Alligator Hill as you brew your first pot of coffee or tea in the morning, taking that first cup outside on the deck or the dock or to the Adirondack chairs lakeside. You breathe in the fresh northern Michigan air and listen to the early morning silence...maybe even deciding to take the 14 foot aluminum boat out, trying your hand at the great fishing in the Glen Lakes. Later in the morning, the hammock beckons and you grab a good book or magazine and climb in, a gentle breeze blowing over your body, lulling you into a little cat nap between chapters or pages. You notice the fire pit by the Adirondack chairs and mentally plan to have a bonfire that night (plenty of wood in the shed). S'more ingredients are added to the grocery list. Wondering how the water is, you climb down the 3 wide, gentle steps at the end of the dock and find that the sand you see through the crystal clear water is hard packed and that the lake is shallow a long way out - ideal for small children. There is an auger in the shed that can be used to tie up a boat if you brought one (public landing on the other side of the lake, a marina less than .5 mile from the landing at the narrows where Little and Big Glen lakes come together).
Inside the chalet you will have found two bedrooms and a full bath (tub) up. The rooms have twin beds and those twin beds can be pushed together to form a king if need be. There is a Pack and Play and an older porta-crib with a new mattress. Both use knitted Pack and Play sheets. Downstairs, across the front of the cottage (lakeside) is the living dining area. There is a wood stove for those days when you might need to take the chill out (supply of wood in the shed). The kitchen (fully equipped, though not everything matches), a bath (shower) and bedroom (2 twin beds) are across the back of the cottage. There are decks off the two upstairs bedrooms and downstairs, both front and back.
A 14 foot aluminum fishing boat, a Weber charcoal grill, and various lawn chairs are available for your use. There is a portable CD player, a radio and several books for all ages (Sorry - no TV per request of long time renters), games and puzzles.
You are close to hiking trails, the Sleeping Bear Dune Climb, shopping in Empire, Glen Arbor (both just minutes away). Suttons Bay, Leland, Northport and only 30 minutes from Traverse City. Check the Chamber of Commerce (brochures found by park in Glen Arbor or in the Bay Wear shop), for other area happenings or to have a brochure sent. There are many wineries and golf courses in the area along with some horseback riding, theater opportunities, music festivals and unique places to visit. Restaurants abound, the variety being endless.
Linens for this chalet/cottage experience, are to be provided by you, the renter. You will need linens for bed, bath, kitchen and beach. There are many blankets and pillows to choose from. There is no washer or dryer.

Hi Karen, We just got home a few hours ago and I wanted to send you a note to say THANK YOU for giving us the opportunity to experience your little slice of paradise on Glen Lake! Wow! What a beautiful area, and a beautiful home. This was surely one of our best vacations ever. Our boys had the times of their lives. They loved the dune climb, the park at Empire, Kayaking the Crystal River, and spending time in your Lake and in Lake Michigan. My husband and I enjoyed Glen Arbor and the surrounding areas. We did not make it to Traverse City - we just decided to skip the big crowds and relax this time. You are so fortunate to have such a beautiful home in such an amazing part of the state. We hope to be able to visit again next year, let me know what your process is for booking so that I can plan sooner next time.

From guest book: I think you have the most beautiful place on this earth. What a peaceful place and a place of splender. My name is Sue, the daughter-in-law of Charles and Loann, your long time renters, either the last weeks in June or the first weeks of July. For several years now, we've come up north to see them while they stay here. Every year we wait with great anticipation for this week. We have two children who love the Dune Climb and the bicycle rides around the lake. To be in such a place for even such a short time allows one to become unaware of time or the necessity to have to be somewhere at a a certain time. It's just great. The hummingbirds are so neat to watch. Thanks for allowing others to use your cottage, and experience what you, indeed, already know...that this is the calmist and most beautiful place, one that enriches one's soul. From Loann: Dear Karen, Suzie said it all. This is a fantastic place. We truly love it. Sure hate to leave. Hope next year we can come for another two weeks. Thanks so much for sharing it with us.

From guest book: We had a fantastic week - again! We always say, "No matter what the weather, vacation here is always great!" This year we had great weather, too. Even swam in Lake Michigan one day. Had great walks on the beach in Empire each night, enjoyed our boat on Glen Lake and also on Lake Leelanau this year. We took a channel off of Lake Leelanau into Pere Marquette Forest which was an amazing new experience for us. Each year we are here we are also amazed by the color and cleanness of the waters in the area. Got the hummingbirds, flowers, and wild birds back on track during our week. Left some seed for the next renters to enjoy. Also had a pet duck for the week. She's a female Mallard with a deformed bill and she'd come up and roost right next to our chairs and walk right up to the cottage. Thanks, Karen.

From guest book: WOW!!! LOVE the dock with the bench. Nice to sit out on in the daylight and dark (looking back at the shore line). My 90 year old mother even sat out there! The birds were really active this year - especially the hummingbirds. It was fun to watch them (play? dance?) together. Our weather was excellent - warmest and dryest ever (only had 2 mornings of rain and boomers - also enjoyable up here). Next year back to two weeks!

From guest book: Thank you for allowing us to use your cottage. We had a great time. Very relaxing, yet very fun. Swimming in the lake, sailing in Big Glen (Lake), S'mores at the fire pit, Stargazing and identifying constellations (with Starfinder and red light), kids climbing Sleeping Bear Dunes (UGH), watching those adorable hummingbirds, shopping in Suttons Bay, Glen Arbor... Thank you so much!

From Guest Book, June, 2001: The birds are singing and the sun is warming the earth as it gazes through a hazy clear, blue sky. A soft breeze is whispering through the trees, and we appreciate its cool, gentle massage. In the distance we can hear the low hum of a motor boat, and children's squeals of summer fun, and beneath us the lapping of the ripples kissing the shore. It is a perfect day! We are together, and enjoying each other's company. Thanks so much for the wonderful visit. It was so much fun to go shopping, climbing, swimming, walking, canoeing and sightseeing. The cottage is an adorable, peaceful retreat.

14+ year renters...this from the guest book, 2009: Another amazing Glen Lake summer! You and this place are such a blessing to the four of us. We know all year long that spending two weeks here is priceless and exceeds all expectations. Why is it that we laugh more, relax and smile deeper and love each other harder here? This place allows us to be with each other as a family like no other place in the world. So many memories. Every year it's fun to discover something new! This year we went to Esch Beach (Otter Creek) and re-discovered LeBecasse with the "new" chef. We hit all our old favorites - North Bar Lake, Glen Haven, hiking on Alligator Hill and Empire Bluffs. Thrilled that Sugar Foot Saloon re-opened. Three trips to Funistrada. Two trips with Captain Scott on Reel Tales to stock up on salmon for the winter. Too many times to the Cherry Republic, Arts and the Pine Cone. Boating, hiking, beaching, trips to Traverse City. Words can not express our gratitude to you for sharing this opportunity with us.
