Can sleep up to four (two couples) comfortably with the curtained-off queen sofa sleeper in the living area. Twin air mattress also provided for a fifth person, if desired.
Kitchen has gas range, side by side fridge (ice/water in door), microwave, dishwasher, disposall. High efficiency washer/dryer are located in utility closet. Other amenities include WiFi, AppleTV with unlimited Netflix streaming, DVD, stereo, cd library, books/magazines, large charcoal BBQ grill with electric rotisserie, spacious private outdoor patio with view of Tucson Mountains and ramadas with hammocks and outdoor dining area.
Just five miles from Marriott Starr Pass and five miles from I-10, this home is close to important Gem Show venues, but provides a welcome retreat at the end of a busy day.
Rainwater-catching sisterns and a graywater system recycle water. The 2-foot thick walls and exposed aggregate concrete floor conserve energy and lighten this passive-solar home’s carbon footprint.

You'll be on 3.3 peaceful, private, quiet acres, in a passive-solar house with all the amenities you're used to. This straw bale house has 2-ft thick walls which block out everything but the occasional sounds of coyotes howling at night. Insulated Low-E double-paned Andersen windows. Greywater recycling, and rainwater catchment cisterns. Tankless on-demand water heater. Metal roof. Gorgeous views of Saguaro cactus and mountain sunsets in all directions. You're just outside the city limits, only 3 miles from the nearest supermarket, but it feels like the middle of nowhere. In a good way.

We love living near the Tucson Mountains. We knew visitors would enjoy the natural surroundings, private atmosphere, and room to roam as much as we do.
The Unique Benefits at this House
Living in a sustainable home is important to us, but we still appreciate a comfortable lifestyle. We built this house in 2007 to have the best of both worlds. It's a "green" house, but with all the usual amenities associated with city living. We love sitting out on the back patio at sunset, watching the birds fly home to roost for the evening. Coyotes howl at the moon some nights; we occasionally get to see them stroll by our window. This is a safe, friendly environment where you're bound to feel right at home the moment you arrive.

This was an A+++ vacation property for my husband and I. We almost didn't want to write a review in case too many people find out about this gem of a property. :-) This home was large and could have easily accomodated up to 9 people. There was an entire wing we didn't even use. Loved the rustic south west decor theme, exposed ceiling beam and spanish tile. Very clean. Kitchen stocked with all the dishware we could have ever needed. Linens provided. Beds were very comfortable. Bedrooms were large. Nice dining areas inside and out and lots of seating outside too such as rocking chairs, loungers and bench seating built into walls. PRIVATE on 5 acres with garden wall surrounding property. Pool and hot tub were awesome. Weather was gorgeous every day. Stunning views of the mountains from every angle. Nice landscaped gardens at the front. We felt like we were a million miles away from everything on a desert retreat yet we could drive 5-7 minutes down the steet and be back in "civilazation" i.e. grocery store, shopping, banks, restaurants. Very easy access to parks and tourist attractions and highways from the property. Can't wait to go back!! Awesome trip! Awesome location! Highly recommended!
