The owners welcomed us like family members and worked hard to be sure we felt at home. This very affordable rental is in a heavenly neighborhood on an incredibly quiet dead end street. You can hear the waves when you sit on the back porch at night. The grassy, private back yard is great for the kids to play in when they're not at the beach. The 9th Street beach is very close by with great waves, friendly life guards, plenty of room, and the entertainment of watching people fish off the jetty. The outdoor shower is great, as is the deck. The only entrance to the twin bed room is through the queen bed room so keep that in mind for planning where people will sleep. We were there during an extreme heat wave so we had to think through how to make most efficient use of the two window A/C units + fans and worry a bit about the electricity costs.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, families with young children.
Owner response: You were wonderful guests. Glad you liked it. No need to worry about electric bill. It will be covered by us. We do not expect our tenants to pay for air condition unit when it is as hot as this summer has been. We want them to enjoy their stay. Thanks for coming and hope to see you again next year.

the house was clean and as represented. there is a great window seat in the dining room that i didnt know about, but is a great feature. the outside deck is huge and was well equiped with table and chairs, plus a grill. the screened porch was also nice although we didnt use it. the location was really quiet being near the end of a dead end street. we had two small issues and they were rectified by the owners who are upstairs at times. i think it is a very afordable choice for a family to use for their vacation.Recommended for: Families with young children.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 1989
About the owner: Jim and I met in Avalon (at Phil's Rock Room) in the late 70'). He was a surfer and I just loved the beach. We got married in 1978. Bought this house, raised our 2 sons and 1 daughter - all surfers. We love Puerto Rico - have a home there as well. Jim is a CPA and Joan is a tutor and part-time bookkeeper in West Chester, PA. We have 3 children - 2 boys and 1 girl and now 4 grandbabies - 2 boys and 2 girls. We are truly blessed!
Why the Owner Chose Avalon:
Both sides of our family have been in Avalon since the 70's - a real 'surfer's family!'. Jim and I first bought 6th St. as an investment with partners and bought them out in 1989. At that time we bought the house with close grade-school friends who occupied the 1st floor unit. Then they decided to buy a place in Steamboat and sold out to us in 1998. We've been renting the first floor unit ever since. Now we have 4 grandchildren and soon may have to 'occupy the whole house' soon! We love all the wonderful people who have rented and friendships and memories.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Built in 1900, this is one of the oldest cedar shake homes on the island. The other unique part of this house is it's location. You are not in the normal crowded-in small lots with big houses all around you. It is quiet, dead end streeton the quaint, North end of the island by the inlet... a 'real get-away.' Just like 'old Avalon' used to be!!! We have a one of the biggest backyards in Avalon and one house off the inlet beach! No property around us 'rents' - all are owned by families who don't rent. We are the only 'non-conforming rental' there. We rent out our first floor unit and we stay on the 2nd and 3rd floor unit. We are also 2 short blocks from the recreation center with tennis courts, basketball courts, playground and fields. Great for kids as well as adults and senior citizens. Very reasonable rent for Avalon and super location for all.
