Location: Travis Heights, Austin, Hill Country, Texas, USA (Walk to Music, Food, Coffee, Shopping, Bus, Downtown)
Accommodations: House, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath (Sleeps 4-6)
Keywords: House
To me, the best part about the house is the old Austin feel that you get. The house dates back to the 1930's and shared with a few others on a half acre of land. The house has recently been remodeled and is looking pretty good!
The birds chirp in the morning, the squirrels dance in the shady canopy from a 250 year-old oak trees, church bells can be heard in the distance at noon. It's a pretty nice spot year round.
However, this area is HAPPENING. Not 3 blocks away is what NPR recently called 'the coolest street in America' for better or for worse. Vinyl records. The best thrift shops. A straight razor shave. Folk art galleries, or find a cool old sign.
Lots of veggie options, live music, clubs, Art houses, theater. Walk/bike to Lady Bird Lake (Town Lake) and get some exercise. Hit downtown, 6th Street, UT Longhorn games, kayaking/canoeing, and you KNOW you want some barbecue and a beer. It's all just minutes away.
Catch the bus or rent a scooter to almost anywhere. Or, hey.. just chill. Watch cables/dvds on the 42" flat screen. Use the WiFi to surf the web. Get some work done. Rest, relax, get a massage, take a walk, order some food. Whatever. Once you stay, I know you'll come back.

Camp Verde is the bomb. Having lived in Austin for 7 years, we knew how great the location would be and it didn't disappoint. Walks to S. Congress for coffee, breakfast tacos, etc. were great fun. The house is spacious, well-equiped, clean, and comfortable with great beds and linens. Owner BJ and caretaker Michael are super friendly and attentive. We had our 2 and 4 year olds with us and they loved playing in the yard. We hope to stay several weeks next year.

When I put my house up for sale in Austin and my husband left to start his new job in Baltimore, I needed a place to stay for myself and my newborn that was safe, quiet, and had a kitchen! I stayed at Verde Camp for almost two weeks, enjoying the beautiful grounds and entertaining friends who came to visit me before I left town. I was able to fully enjoy all the most wonderful aspects of life in Austin - the peaceful Travis Heights neighborhood where Verde Camp is located, a short walk to South Congress Avenue's many eclectic offerings (coffee shops, restaurants, shopping, cupcakes!), and very close proximity to downtown and Barton Springs Pool. Take it from a local who loves Austin and misses it like crazy, you'll love these charming cottages and you'll be booking your next visit before you even leave...!

This is one of those recommendations you partially don't want to make, as Verde Camp is one of those 'finds' you kinda want to keep to yourself. A friend of mine who has always stayed at the Austin Motel (on South Congress) simply cannot believe I've found accommodations with these amenities at this location at such a reasonable rate. If you're a music lover the proximity to the Continental Club is reason enough to park here a while, but if you're even remotely fit you'll find you much of central Austin is walkable. And a trip to Whole Foods on day 1 will have you feeling like a genius for booking a place with a kitchen. I plan to return yearly.

We spent 4 days at Verde Camp during Memorial weekend 2009. We rented the 2 bedroom bungalow and a 1 bedroom bungalow and we could not have been happier with our experience. My husband and I had lived in Austin when we were first married and Verde Camp still has the feel of "old Austin" - which is a wonderful "phenom". The cottages are well appointed with everything you would need for a comfortable stay - great beds and linens, fluffy white towels, well supplied kitchen items and even a beautiful orchid in the living room. The lovely landscaped areas of Verde Camp provide for very pleasant walking and visiting outdoors. Verde Camp has all the charm of "old Austin" plus all the modern comforts. We can't imagine staying anywhere else in the future when we return to Austin. Thanks for keeping the beauty and uniqueness of Austin alive! Constance and David Richardson Fort worth , Texas

We rented both the 2bedroom and 1bedroom cottages for a group. The cottages were really nicely designed, host was fantastic and the cottages were outfitted with everything we could have needed. The location is great - 5 minute walk to S. Congress and 20min walk to downtown. Honestly can't think of a single improvement and would definitely recommend camp verde!

My wife and just I enjoyed a week in one of the small 1-bedroom cottages at Verde Camp. We wanted a place of our own where we could live for the week, not like a hotel where you have to eat all your meals out and you have maid service every day. And Verde Camp was just what we were looking for. Our house was clean and private, and had a nice mini kitchen so we could eat in when we wanted. Also, I can't stress enough how perfect the location is. It's on a quiet street, but you walk two short blocks to the heart of South Congress street - restaurants, vintage/antique stores, funky boutiques, the famous Hey Cupcake trailer, Vulcan Video, a nice little grocery store - it's all right there. And you can hop in the car and easily get anywhere you want to go in Austin. All in all, a great spot.

Cozy cottage with old-school charm. Simple and sweet decor, clutter-free and relaxing. Wow, what comfy beds! Excellent location -- close to funky shops and lots of restaurants on South Congress, yet just as close to walking trails and a playground at the park. The owner of this property was super accommodating and genuinely cared about us having the very best stay possible. Thanks, BJ!
