Pros * Fantastic Location - 1 blk to the Eastern Market metro station and to Eastern Market, 1+ block to restaurants, bakeries, coffee shops, other cute shops, 7-11, etc. * Good size basement apartment * Nicely furnished * Nice owners who were generally helpful Cons * Hard pillows in both the bedroom and den (used a towel for a pillow instead) * Uncomfortable bed and sofa sleeper (the sofa sleeper especially needs to be replaced) * Only TV is in den so if someone is sleeping there, no TV for those who are still up (we're not big TV watchers but it would have been nice to have a TV to catch the news before bedtime while kids were already asleep) * Small bathroom * Bathroom mirror opens away from wall which is not a big deal except the bathroom is small and if two people are using the sink one needs to move aside in order to open mirror (this is minor but just irritating enough for me to mention) * Kitchen is galley shaped connecting hallway to the bedroom and living room so if one person needed to pass while another one is cooking, the person cooking needs to move aside I would give this place 3 1/2 stars. The location was really fantastic and the local amenities were great. The area had a true neighborhood feel to it. If the pillows and sofa sleeper were replaced (and possibly the mattress too) and a TV were added to the living room, I would give it 5 stars.

Recommended for:Tourists without a car, adventure seekers, families with young children, families with teenagers, sightseeing, age 55+.

Just what we were looking for!

My wife and I had been looking at hotels in the DC area for a family vacation. We couldn't find anything reasonable that was close enough to the Mall area. Then we tried VRBO which we had used for another vacation and found this wonderful little apartment in the basement of a row house in the Eastern Market neighborhood. It was terrific...and just what we needed for the week. And so reasonably priced compared to other similar places on VRBO in the DC area. The price is all inclusive (no extra fees for taxes, cleaning or parking). Our children are 11 and 15. And we had enough room for sleeping and spending a little downtime when necessary. We put a single air mattress on the floor in the den area and it was just fine for the kids. The living area is bigger than the picture shows. The kitchen had what we needed to eat a few meals in to save on dining costs. The location is terrific. Eastern Market is on the Blue/Orange lines...was rarely crowded and we never waited more than 4-5 minutes for a subway...most of the time, it was only 2-3 minutes. We felt very safe walking to and from the subway which is only a couple minutes away. The Eastern Market has fresh fruits, vegetable and a great little place to get breakfast and lunch. Jane was very helpful with everything. She got us a parking permit for on street parking. We had no problem finding a place to park right near the apartment since we didn't really need the car while in DC. Hard to beat this for convenience and price if you are looking to tour the area via subway. The subway system in DC is awesome compared to some other cities...very easy to use, safe and clean. Thanks to Jane and Brett for making their little apartment available to us!

A Must Stay in DC

Just stayed in this Capital Hill apartment and was more than what we expected. Its in a perfect location, one block from the Eastern Market metro station. Having arrived on Saturday morning, we enjoyed the weekend 'flea market' set up in the school yard - lots of vendors selling their 'wares'. Just down the block is Barracks Row with many good restaurants - all local places, not the cookie cutter chains you find in many cities. We enjoy staying where the locals live and were not disappointed. The apartment is actually larger than the pictures show, and while its listed as a 1 bedroom, there's a den with a nice leather couch that opens to a bed where our daughter slept. Plenty big for all of us! We originally were looking to stay in the Dupont Circle area, but are so glad we decided on Eastern Market. Not only is the metro easy access to all the sights, there's the buses and DC Circulator that are right there for you too. Definitely consider staying here on your next visit to DC . . . we definitely will!

We stayed in this terrific apartment for 5 days in October. It was perfect for us - comfortable, plenty of room, great location. It is one block from the Eastern Market metro station and Barracks Row restaurants. We loved shopping at the Eastern Market and the flea market on the week-end. It was so easy to get around from this location. Walked to the Capitol every morning as part of exercise routine! Highly recommend.

We stayed in this wonderful apartment for over a week. It was very clean and quiet. It has lots of space. The location is great. Easy access to all the attraction in DC. Having the Eastern Market less than a block a way, was great. It was easy to select a meal on the way “home” after a busy day site seeing. The Metro and bus service are very close and cab service was never more than ten minutes. Great vacation.

What a great spot for us to stay while we visited DC for 4 days in May. We traveled with our 20 yr old daughter- 3 of us. This apartment is located within walking distance of the Capitol, one block from Eastern Mkt Metro, 1/2 block from Eastern Mkt. Great neighborhood of row houses, quiet, pretty, lots of greenery. Apartment is garden level below the owner's home. Clean, safe, conveniently located. The description is accurate. Owner is very responsive to all our questions and request, and emails and phone calls. Note that the price is all inclusive. Owner does not add on cleaning fees, nor 14.5% tax. Truly a great value. Perfect for small family or two couples (one couple would sleep in den on hide a bed). We highly recommend this apartment for your trip to DC.
