There is a unique spirit at Old San Juan that seems to bring out the best of Puerto Rico. Many guest say they feel like they've come home. They can relax into just being themselves in a way that their lives don't always allow. Others comment on the exceptional people they meet and the rich, profound experiences they have. whether you come alone, with a friend or family member, or with a group, you'll find opportunities to be as social or as private as you choose. Being surrounded by this 500 year cobblestone old city is a unique experience that is available to the few fortunate enough to visit Old San Juan.

Old San Juan: Old San Juan has several plazas: Plaza de San José is a favorite meeting place for young and old alike. At its center stands the bronze statue of Ponce de León, made from a British cannons captured in during Sir Ralph Abercromby's attack 1797. The plaza is skirted by a number of historic buildings.

Abutting Plaza San José is the Plaza del Quinto Centenario (Quincentennial Square), opened in October 12, 1992. This plaza is the cornerstone of Puerto Rico's commemoration of the 500th anniversary of Columbus' discovery of the New World, has a sculpture which rises 12 meters (40 feet). The monumental totemic sculpture in black granite and ceramics symbolizes the earthen and clay roots of American history and is the work of Jaime Suarez, one of Puerto Rico's foremost artists.

Plaza de Armas (arms square) is Old San Juan's main square, on San José Street. Features four statues representing the four seasons; all are over 100 years old. It was carefully planned as the main city square.

El Morro: the word itself sounds powerful and this six-level fortress certainly is. Begun in 1540 and completed in 1589. San Felipe del Morro was named in honor of King Phillip II. Most of the walls in the fort today were added later, in a period of tremendous construction from the 1760's-1780's. Rising 140 feet above the sea, its 18-foot-thick wall proved a formidable defense. It fell only once, in 1598, to a land assault by the Earl of Cumberland's forces. The fort is a maze of tunnels, dungeons, barracks, outposts and ramps. El Morro is studded with small, circular sentry boxes called 'garitas' that have become a national symbol. The views of San Juan Bay from El Morro are spectacular. The area was designated a National Historic Site in February, 1949 with 74 total acres. It has the distinction of being the largest fortification in the Caribbean. In 1992, the fortress was restored to its historical form in honor of the 500th anniversary of the discovery of Puerto Rico by Christopher Columbus.

The Iglesia de San Jose: The Iglesia de San José (San José Church) began construction in 1523. Juan Ponce de León gave the land where the Church now stands. Originally called the Church and Monastery of Saint Thomas Aquinas, it was built by Dominican friars to serve as the monastery's church, it is the second oldest in the Western Hemisphere. The section erected in 1532, the Main Chapel or Sanctuary, is an excellent example of 16th century Spanish Gothic architecture. Ponce de León, was buried here for 300 years until his body was moved to the San Juan Cathedral in 1913. This was the family church of Ponce de León's descendants. Puerto Rican painter José Campeche, who contributed a great deal to the beautiful churches of his island, is buried here. Open Mon-Sat 8:30am - 4pm, Sun mass at 12:00pm; (787) 725-7501.

The Capilla del Cristo (Cristo Chapel) was built in the 16th century (1753). The stories surrounding the history of this small chapel conflict wildly except on one point: someone on horseback too

I was here with my brother and a friend for a week vacation. The apartment and our stay was absolutely incredible. It is in the perfect location in Condado; a block from the beach and right in the center of all the action. Yet it was peaceful and quiet inside the apartment. Plenty of fantastic restaurants and things to do walking distance from the apartment. The apartment was very clean and comfortable- just as pictured. Victor was extremely accommodating and approachable. Victor, thank you for such a wonderful stay. We are looking forward to coming back to this apartment in the near future.

My family (2 teens + 2 adults) stayed here in early August. The apartment was very clean and well laid out. It's a great place to stay as it's so centrally located to all the main sites & shops and you get a real sense of Old San Juan. Highlights: - very afforadable - located near everything - very charming - spacious enough for a family - very clean - super quick return of the deposit - excellent air conditioning Disappointments: - main bed upstairs was rock hard - no TV or internet - about 5 barking neighbourhood dogs at night + 1 neighbour with an annoying car alarm that went off all the time - a collander in the kitchen would have been nice. - needs better comforter for pull out couch bed -more toliet paper --3 women & 1 1/2 rolls is not enough for a week

Thanks for the very prompt return of our deposit.  I enjoyed meeting you and we all had a wonderful time in the apartment.  It was truly a great spot.  The trolley was wonderful and most helpful in running back and forth to shopping , sightseeing etc.  Also a great way to get back to apartment rather than walking up the hill!!  My only advice is to let renters know that their is no TV or internet. Maybe advise where the closest ones are available. I will certainly recommend you to anyone I know and also probably be back sometime and stay on the beach.   Regards   Laurel

I must say i loved and i mean loved this place.. The only downside to the whole thing was the lack of water pressure in the shower. The water literally drops down with no force whatsoever, and it takes a few minutes just to get wet enough to soap yourself. Besides that it was amazing. Great location- close to tons of bars and restaurants, and super comfortable. I didn't turn on the tv once in the whole stay, so i can't say about that.. On a main street at the peak of the hill with great view. The nightlife was the best around here. Expect lots of noise on a saturday night, but you know what you're on vacation!! Get out of your comfort zone and enjoy the character of this amazing place. Definitely would stay here again. And Victor the manager was very nice and helpful. Good job guys.

My boyfriend and I stayed here for a romantic get-a-away and it was everything we could have asked for! So spacious and charming- we loved the detail put in to the decor. Victor was amazing the whole way through too. He was always readily available to answer questions via text message once we arrived, and he even gave the airport cab driver directions over the phone so that we would not have to worry about it! The apartment is quite large for Old San Juan standards. We only used the AC on the last evening and were comfortable leaving the windows wide open with the fans on. Old San Juan is pretty nosy, though. If it gets too bad in the morning (garbage trucks, street sweepers, etc), block it out by shutting the windows and turning on the AC. A word of advice though- do NOT plan on doing too much cooking. The market is super close (about 3 blocks) but is not well stocked. Also, the kitchen is reasonably equipped, but since it's just a vacation rental, so it is not fully stocked- items included two frying pans (sm/md), three pots, one large spoon, one spatula, a couple of other random tools and an abundance of silver. The shower is excellent, but the water pressure in Old San Juan is not ideal. Don't blame the building though, it's just the pipes. Also, there were only three normal sized towels for a one week stay. It's did not bother us too much, but just know that if you plan to have more than two ppl in the rental. We also could not figure out the TV and DVD player, but who cares, right?! This rental is also walking distance to everything in Old San Juan. So much so that we could spend the day roaming the streets, come back for a shower, and be back out for dinner in less than an hour! I also recommend renting a car for at least a day. We did so and went to the edge of the rain forest to visit some natural water slides that I read about on Tripadvisor.com. You also need a car to get to the good beaches, since trust, Condado is no paradise- it was SO touristy! The beaches were narrow, crowded, and not well-maintained. Just to paint you a picture, there were pigeons chillin on the beach rather than sea gulls...just sayin.. Places to eat: La Madre (order the ribs), Aquaviva, and Ceviche. Also make sure to get a martini from Tantra! I loved this place, would stay here again, and have already recommended this rental to some friends coming down from New York.

Owner response: Dear Molly Thank you so much for your review. So sorry about the towels, I do have lots of towels for the apartment, perhaps when they clean it the cleaning lady did not stock the apartment properly, I'll keep an eye on that so that it doesn't happen again. Be sure next time you'll have plenty of towels. We do appreciate very much all your comments and suggestions and will act on all of them to provide better services and a great experience for our guest. Thank you so much. We look forward to have you back.

As we planned to spend most of our three days in Old San Juan siteseeing, we needed a place that was comfortable and conveniently-located, which this apartment was. We knew it would be a snug fit for our family of five (2 adults, 3 young children), but it worked for our short stay. The apartment had all the amenities including a full kitchen, nice bathroom, and air-conditioning. It's also located on a corner, with nice views out both sides. The property manager was very easy to reach, very nice, and easily answered all my questions prior to and during our stay. The only suggestions I would make is to provide a few more pillows and light blankets for the pull-out couch and to replace the blown lightbulbs (there were 2 or 3). Otherwise, it was a great place to stay!

Owner response: Thanks for sharing your experience with us. We are glad you had a great time and worked on your suggestions already. We replaced the light bulbs and apologize you had to remind us and already brought some more light blankets for all of the beds. We hope to welcome you sometime again.

I can't think of a better place to stay on my first visit to Old San Juan. The apartment was recommended to me by Victor and it was exactly as described by him. It was very comfortable, clean, and accomodating to 3 women. We felt perfectly safe in the neighborhood and very comfortable getting around the entire city on foot. We could eat as much as we wanted at the numerous restaurants within walking distance since we walked everywhere and burned off our food. We thouroughy enjoyed having all the ammenities of staying in an urban enviornment. The beach in Old San Juan located 1.5 miles from the apartment was so much more enjoyable than the Condado beach area we visited for 1 of our days there. We were so glad we decided to stay within the city and felt like we lived there by the time we left. I can't wait to come back to the same location on my next trip. Hopefully very soon. Victor was very easy to work with and made sure we were comfortable. I would definetely recommend the apartment. Victor, I think we want some ear plugs as well, although all of the sounds would not keep us away! Thanks Again!!!!

If you what you are after is a no fuss but a comfortable and secure place to stay, one that gives you a really good feel of old san juan, then this is the place to rent. We had an "eat and walk" vacation, and it's perfect if you want easy access to explore the best of what the enchanting streets of old san juan has to offer. On the down side, it could get a little noisy on weekend night from the music from a local bar a block away, or from people walking home after some partying. But over all, I would go back to this apartment again. Victor, the agent, is also really nice and helpful.

Owner response: Dear Renter. Thank you so much for your review, it was wonderful to have you at one of our units. I hope to see you back in Puerto Rico soon. I'm going to have ear plugs for you next time and a Mojito to help you sleep.

We stayed in this apartment with five people--two adults, three children. The location is perfect, a block off the ocean, a few blocks from either fort. (these are not New York City blocks either--small blocks with gorgeous views.) Shopping and a little supermarket are within three blocks. Restaurants within a few blocks. The apt. easily accomodates up to five people, the owner is easily accessible and charming. The building is an old school, architecturally lovely, high ceilings, huge windows that open onto the street, a washer/dryer (coin operated) available. I took an inordinate amount of pictures just of the building and the surrounding buildings. The streets are cobblestone with very limited and tight parking, but we were able to leave our rental car on the same block for a few nights. We walked to everything easily during our stay, but we also took the free trolley once. It dropped us off about a block from the apt. Stay in this cute apt and the city of Old San Juan is easily yours for your entire stay. I highly recommend it!

Owner response: This group is one of the reasons I enjoy so much my job. They were just pleasant and really wonderful. We are looking to improve even more the property to make it really comfortable and charming for our guests. People that appreciate the Old charm of Old San Juan are just going to love this place. Thank you so much for your review. Please come back soon.

My family of 5 had a great time at this condo. It was clean, comfortable and convenient to everything we wanted to see in Old San Juan. El Moro and San Cristobal are both just a short walk away. Restaurants and shopping are also within easy walking distance. Great breezes come through the floor to ceiling windows. Another nice feature were the full sized washers & dryers located down the hall from the apartment.
