This was my family's second time at this beach house and to Dauphin Island and it's just as amazing as I remembered it to be. The house is beautiful, neat and comfortable. Plus being right on the beach and so close to the ocean is unbeatable, and for us being away from the chaos and crowds that come with other beach communities was just what we wanted. Of course, we didn't have to give up great food because there are plenty of locally owned restaurants that serve up great casual beach food. With bike rentals and a public pool just down the road, we never got bored even when we needed a break from the beach. We're definitely going back to DI and to this house. In fact, the other families we met were also repeat visitors to DI and we all agreed that once you stay here, you never want to go anywhere else.Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway.
Owner response: THANK YOU so much for your kind and thoughtful review, Jennifer! We are thrilled that you enjoyed the beach house and your vacation adventures on one-of-a-kind Dauphin Island. We always welcome feedback, and we hope you will make many return visits to our little island paradise.

Last Jan., 2012, my husband and I stayed here for a month and, loved every minute. The house was immaculate, well furnished, comfortable. We fished right off the deck and, caught lots of fish. The sound of the tide coming in lulled us to sleep. We had intended to book it this coming Jan., but family obligations prevented that...hopefully, we will be able to come back one day before we are too old.Recommended for: Age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thank you so very much for taking the time to comment on your stay at Villa Delphinus. Your kind words were music to our ears, and we hope you will be able to return to the island again very soon. As we have stated before, we want to provide an experience that consistently exceeds our guests' expectations and we always welcome constructive feedback. Again, we so appreciate your thoughtfulness and consideration. Please keep us in mind in the future!

My wife and our two dogs stayed at this property for a week. The surf breaks around the sea wall under the house just as described creating a unique experience. After leaving I had to get used to not hearing the waves. It was very soothing. The house was immaculate and provided everything we needed. We brought most of our own supplies for cooking since there are not many places to eat on the island. The Ship and Shore is a combination grocery, hardware, tackle and liquor store where you can buy most things although fresh meats and veggies are sparse. The property management company delivered on everything promised. The bottom line is that this is a fantastic property in a unique location where a family can spend a relaxing vacation. Be aware that Dauphin Island is not place to go if you are looking for top-notch restaurants or any kind of night life. It is a place to chill out, enjoy the environment and, maybe, do a little fishing.Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway.
Owner response: First, thank you SO VERY MUCH for taking the time to provide feedback on your stay at Villa Delphinus! Second, we so appreciate your positive comments, and we sincerely welcome and encourage ALL comments, both positive and negative. We enjoy a wonderful roster of repeat guests and we are committed to continuing to improve the beach house so that it exceeds the expectations of all of our guests. We are thrilled that you enjoyed your stay and hope you will return again very soon! Thank you so much again for your thoughtful review.

We had a fabulous time on our first trip to Dauphin Island. The house was very clean, beautifully decorated, and well suited for our family of four. The reality company was friendly and there were no problems at all. Our kids loved playing on the beach right outside the house and found seashells with ease. We even saw dolphins while sitting on the deck. I would definitely recommend this house to a friend!Recommended for: Families with young children, families with teenagers.
Owner response: We so appreciate your kind words about the beach house and we hope you will return again soon to this little slice of paradise! We try very hard to maintain the home at a standard where it is pleasing to our guests, and we are always eager to hear about any improvements we can make. Again, thank you so much for your thoughtful review!

It's been over three years since our vacation to Dauphin Island and we still remember it very fondly (and we've done our fair share of traveling both in the US and abroad). It was so relaxing and enjoyable! The house was clean, comfortable and accomodating. We cooked several meals, even grilling out some and found the house well stocked with what we needed. We were even able to enjoy hanging out with our dogs and really enjoyed walking the beach with them (our primary occupation of the week). The people of the island we terrific and inviting. We tend to not return to places traveled (we want to see it all!), but I can see us making another trip back to the island and this beach house. Thanks so much! Terrific!Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, girls getaway, sightseeing.

We certainly enjoyed our stay at this property. The sound of the waves crashing on the shore beneath the house was very relaxing. The home was well described in the listing and had everything we needed for our stay. There were only a few restaurants open while we were there in December but Mobile is a reasonable drive away. The island was a pleasure to visit and we look forward to another opportunity to make this house our home away from home.Recommended for: Families with young children, romantic getaway, girls getaway.
Owner response: We so appreciate your taking the time to offer a review of Villa Delphinus and we are pleased that you enjoyed your stay. You will be pleased to know that two new restaurants have opened since your visit and the island tends to pick up in activity during the spring and summer seasons. Thank you again for your kind comments and we look forward to hosting you again soon!

We chose this house because its pilings are literally in the surf. The water washes under the house day and night, and we found this utterly amazing. (The pilings are deep so there is no danger of the house eroding into the Gulf with you in it!) We had a day of real rain and wind which magnified the surf and made the under-the-house water the more mazing. The windows are brilliantly placed to get the fullness of both the morning and afternoon suns. The pictures of the house on the website do not do the interior justice. You don't think of a beach house being "aesthetic" but this one does have an aesthetic feel. The owner has given a lot of thought to decor, lighting, appointments, kitchenware, etc. The house is located almost at the end of the West End and so is unusually quiet. Not only are tehe sunrises, sunsets, and beach-walks things to write about, but even he bike-riding is uplifting. Dauphin Island itself is such a welcome respite from the crassness and commericalization of so many beach areas. This was a perfect location for the perfect week for my spouse and me. The fact that the owner knows Latin (naming the place "Villa Delphinus") is a mystical bonus.Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thank you so much for your kind and thoughtful review! We strive to exceed our guests' expectations and we so appreciate your feedback. While the surf does tend to lap at the deck pilings during high tide, many efforts are currently under way on the island to replenish the beach along the quiet stretch of West End beach front homes (and it's working!) so there is still plenty of beach in which to play. Thank you so much again for your wonderful review and we hope you will visit again very soon!
