My wife, eight month old baby and I stayed at the mini farm for two months, earlier this year. Recently relocated from Indiana, we were pleasantly welcomed to this bucolic pocket of Seattle by Sonja and Steve. As others have noted, the apartment is private, comfortable and well equipped for either a short or lengthy stay. The neighborhood is a slice of country life within Seattle, with horses (and mini-horses), trails and meadows surrounding the property. Despite a major street nearby, the apartment was always quiet and calm. Right across the street, a grocery store, a Starbucks and several eateries afforded us a little taste of the local cuisine, though most times we ventured out to restaurants in the nearby cities of Bellevue, Redmond and Kirkland. Besides the tranquility and centralized location of the “mini-farm,” Sonja and Steve were great hosts. They were attentive to our needs and resourceful with restaurant and sight-seeing recommendations. We were, sincerely, fortunate to have found this place.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children.

My husband and I stayed at the Mini-Farm for a month while we were in the middle of a move. It was the perfect location if you want to be close to Seattle and Bellevue, but not in the middle of the city. The Mini-Farm is located in the beautiful Rose Hill area of Kirkland, where residents live in a neighborhood setting with backyard pastures. The extensive trail system, Bridal Trails is within walking distance, as are several coffee shops, a grocery store, and restaurants. The actual Mini-Farm is a delightful place to stay! The apartment is very private and is perfect for two people, and has all of the amenities you could ask for. Right outside of your front door will be a view of the pasture with two wonderful horses. Inside, the MIL is nicely furnished and very comfortable. You will not be disappointed with your stay at the Mini-Farm! We will definitely stay there again whenever we are traveling in the Seattle area!Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, age 55+, romantic getaway.
Owner response: Thank you for your five star review! We are so grateful to hear how you have benefited from your stay with us here at the mini farm. We strive to make our guest experiences here memorable, comfortable, and in close proximity to major interests and attractions. We are pleased our property could be a part of your honeymoon! All the best,

We stayed at the Mini-farm mother-in-law unit for 8 days while up in Washington state for a family Thanksgiving. The listing doesn't begin to capture how quiet and perfect this place is. The decor is sophisticated but welcoming. The little kitchen is fully equipped. The bed is comfortable. Sonja and Steve are excellent hosts - helpful and very good communicators. The unit is on a quiet street but close to freeways and shopping. Parking is ample and easy. Some mornings, we'd hang out for a while and watch the horse and chickens while they browsed the pasture for goodies to eat. The barn/stable is very well maintained so you never hear (or smell) anything related to animals and they are a lot of fun to watch. We will definitely come back again.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, romantic getaway.
Owner response: Greetings from the mini farm and thank you for your five star review! We are so pleased you enjoyed to benefit of the country within the city experience! We pride ourselves in the sophisticated but welcoming decor and also our ability to provide excellent hospitality while at the same time allowing guests their privacy. Many thanks for your strong endorsement and we are pleased you also enjoyed the kitchen supplies and the amazingly comfortable bed! Please join us again if you are ever in the area, Warm Regards,

I was working a 6 week assignment at Microsoft in Redmond. The Kirkland Mini-Farm was the PERFECT place to stay. It is only about 4 miles from the Microsoft Redmond campus. It was like having my own private property. The owners, Sonja and Steve made sure every detail was taken care of for the apartment and I came and went as I pleased. The kitchen was perfect for me to be able to make my own meals (something I am not very experienced at!). The apartment is very clean and very well cared for. I recommend staying here to anyone that wants a quiet, “easy to live in”, apartment with hosts that are willing to help with anything if asked. Very professionally managed.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: We are delighted you found our unit to be the perfect place for you while you were on temporary work assignment and that it had the feeling of being your own "private property."! We strive to provide a clean, elegant, & enjoyable space for our guests so we very much appreciate your comments. All the best, S & S

I was lucky enough to be able to stay the the mine-farm for a month and enjoyed it immensely. The apartment was exactly as advertised and shown in the pictures. The kitchen was well stocked, the living room spacious, and the bed was wonderfully welcoming! The location of the mini-farm is superb. Horses and space out the back door, Starbucks and other stores across the street, close to great walking trails and horse facilities, and very convenient to the freeway. The hosts were great before, during, and after the trip. I would definitely recommend the mini-farm to anyone visiting the area that wants a home away from home. If I return to the area for an extended visit again, I will definitely look forward to staying here again.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.
Owner response: Thank you for your wonderful review! We are delighted you had the experience we strive to provide for all of our guests here at the Mini-Farm MIL! Please consider returning when your plans take you into our area again. All the Best, S & S Proprietors

We stayed at the mini-farm for 7 nights during July 2009. We had such a great time that none of us really wanted to leave. The one bedroom fit our family of 4 perfectly (5 and 3 year old children). The biggest hit for all of us were the 2 horses on the property and watching the hens move about. The kids were able to watch Sonja give her horse a bath which they loved. It was great to walk up and get lunch or a movie and not to mention that Starbucks was with-in walking distance. It was a quiet and safe place to be with our family. Thank you Sonja. The Potts Family.Owner response: You are most welcome! It was my pleasure to have you and your family here on the Mini Farm. Our horses are very social creatures and they enjoyed all of the attention! The hens here are named after great women from our family and history and are wonderful little layers and companions. We are looking forward to your return! All the Best, S & S Mini Farm Proprietors

Hi Sonja, We had a wonderful time in your "mother in law" accomodations. The apartment was very comfortable, cozy and attractive. You were the perfect hostess-every request was taken care of. Our friends (the groom's parents, formerly from Bellevue) were very impressed and think they will want to stay there when they visit the area. Both sons and wives live in the area but in very small homes. This couple actually introduced us to VRBO. The area was conducive to nice walks through a lovely neighborhood. Easy access to freeway, downtown Seattle, and the ferry terminal; shopping was close by. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and will keep you in mind when we visit the area again. I stayed at the Mini-Farm in Kirkland this year over the holidays and in Jan. 09, for a short job assignement near by. It is an awesome place. The host is truely nice, with good taste, and a practical sense. The place feels like a wonderful retreat yet minutes from everything. Inside, everything is pleasant, tasteful and confortable. I recommend it highly.Owner response: Thank you for your feedback! We are delighted to hear our location was a fit for your temporary job assignment nearby. We too, feel that the Mini-Farm is like a retreat! The decor is intended to provide that sense of comfort and ease. Quick access to nearby cities, just minutes to just about anything you would want to see in the area is exactly why we choose this location! All the Best, S & S Mini Farm Proprietors

We have rented homes during the summer months for many years and felt Sonja's guest suite was among the nicest we have stayed. She made us feel welcome and always extended a warm hello. The unit was tasteful decorated and even included a few personal touches such as Seattle organic coffee and handcrafted soaps. We also enjoyed the fact the unit was part of a working equestrian stable which was a big hit with our 9 and 12 year children. The suite is perfected located close to the I-405, Bellevue and Redmond. We definitely would recommend the suite for an extended rental or weekend getaway. DAVID AND KAREN WOOD SCOTTSDALE, AZDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0
