Casa Nan is located in a good spot for touring Cayo...the house was well appointed to keep one comfortable .Even though the house was locked tight...we were robbed while we slept on the first night....computer, cell phone, camera, passport, cash, sunglasses, watches and backpack disappeared. The new property manager could not have been more accommodating...and he really made a disaster much easier to handle. Our second week was spent in a rental in Placencia...and we learned that the previous weeks tenants had also been robbed at Casa Nan...time for better security

The house matched the description and is good value for the money. Lots of room, nice yard, nice decks for morning coffee and afternoon beer. A short walk to town and the farmers market, although a bit of a hill on the walk back. A bit of improvement in plumbing (fix drippy kitchen tap, install a better shower head) would vastly improve the experience. Good way to experience San Ignacio. Be sure to go tubing on the local rivers (Clarissa Falls has tube rentals).

Owner response: Thank you for your review. Jaime had been replaced as the host for lack of attention to maintenace. and the kitchen taps are replaced, and Manuel is taking care of the shower head. It was the head from an electric shower head, but we now have the large propane tank to get lots of hot water, but need to direct it out into the tub.

We enjoyed our stay at Casa Nan. Fred was very accommodating when we faced a crisis that delayed our trip by a day and helpful with information for about buses and weather updates. Jaime was very helpful too. A good ambassador for San Ignacio! The house has tiled floors which are nice and cool, a necessity for Belize, not to mention the fan and air conditioning units in each bedroom. Enjoyed our coffees on the deck and my husband especially enjoyed the hammock and listening to the melodious black birds! Our only problem was the shower curtain kept on billowing on to us as we showered, which was a bit disconcerting when something brushes up against you in the tub! Probably would be solved by a magnetized hem. Just a thought! The pool at San Ignacio resort is only a short walk away and for a small amount you can have a swim. It's a bit of a walk, but the Cahal Pech Resort also allows walk-ins to swim and Oscar at the bar, makes the best cocktails and beautiful too! Ask for his Bailey's colada...an absolute must!

Owner response: Thank you for your review. The shower curtain had been replaced, but the bar was set up to high, and as you said, billowed in. Lowering it seemed to take care of it. Glad your airline finally got you there, and you enjoyed the BELIZIAN way.

The location of this home was convenient to the main happenings of town but it is also next door to a bar. If the local dogs don't keep you awake the music will. The house was comfortable but not clean when we arrived. The toilets were visible dirty, cobwebs along the stairs and broken glass in the cupboards. To top it off the cleaning lady was just leaving as we arrived. The kitchen sink leaked and the butane hot water was not working. We stayed 7 nights and never had hot water. The host was not concerned about this and the owner cold not get ahold of him. The wireless internet did not work but the hard connection did.

Owner response: Like I told you, there is not a Maytag repair man standing by. Parts are hard to find. This is Belize. Most people that I met that met you say " She does not belong in Belize" or " I am glad she won't be my neighbor. Next time, do not try to impress your friends with caviar on a beef budget. Spiders are everywhere, even in Ontario. Can make a web in one hour. Sorry you didn't like it, You are the first in 4 years About contacting the host. As you found out, cell phone coverage is sporatic. I tried to phone him immediatley after your email, and could not reach him. I immediatley replied to you to say that I was unable to make phone contact with him. ( the same evening).

Our first time vacationing outside of the US, we were apprehensive on renting a home from a complete stranger especially one who did not live in Belize. However, with very good communication from the owner of the property, we felt at ease in doing so. Casa Nan was everything it said it was. We were greeted at the airport by Jaime , our Host. All throughout our stay, Jaime was kind, helpful, and very trustworthy. He took us everywhere we wanted to go, and he made sure that we were safe everywhere we went, he was always concerned of that. He became a very good friend and is now part of my family! We especailly appreciated the gated property. The home was clean, and very comfortable. There were a few minor issues. The washing machine was in to be fixed, but was installed in plenty of time for us to do laundry... Also the internet had some issues, but we were not there to be on the internet., and it was resolved in a timely manner as well. The home was perfect for our needs. There were 4 of us, and we had no problem with the sleeping arrangements at all. By the end of each adventurous day, it was good to come "home", shower and walk downtown for dinner. At MayaWalk Tours, we signed up for the ATM, and had a wonderful tour with Arron. Serendib had the best savory rice and beans. Jaime took us into Guatemala for ziplining and a tour of Tikal. He also took us to San Pedro for snorkeling through Amigos del Mar dive shop. Babar and his son Junior were our guides and we had a fantastic time! We shopped at Belize gifts and found everything and more to take home as souvenirs. We had such a wonderful time on this trip. My daughters 30th and my 50th birthday will be a time we will never forget! It was hard to leave and especially hard to say goodbye to Jaime. Thank you so much Casa Nan, and especially Jaime for making a dream come true! We wil definately be back and will most definately stay at Casa Nan! Your friends, Laura, Wendy, Melisa & Mike.

Roy was terrific. It is Belize and there will be issues, but it was great to have someone who responded immediately to any problems (broken lock, electricity prob) and planned PHENOMENAL trips for us. Couldn't ask for better guides. The house was perfect for our needs so we could make breakfast, head out to adventures all over Cayo and then return to a nice cool bedroom. The second bedrm is very small, but worked fine for us. It is tropical so bugs are unavoidable but we just kept everything in ziplocs. This really is the best possible place in Cayo, especially for the price. Don't miss Xunantunich, ATM, cave tubing or Pine Ridge. The ziplines at Calico Jacks on Chiquibal Rd. are new, safe and amazing fun. Sanny's is the best restuarant in San Ignacio for dinner, but off the beaten track. Not far from the house, just go toward Benque Viejo, make a right at the second dirt road (with all the old broken down cars on the corner) then make a left at the Belikin sign (Ninfas de Marianas bar) and it is at the bottom of the road on the left. Those were the directions we got and they are exactly right. Dont miss this CHEAP culinary delight, but save room for the Bananas Foster. Had a wonderful adventure here and would love to return in the future.

We stayed at Casa Nan for 10 wonderful days (26th April ~ 6th May 2010) . Casa Nan is bright, spacious and clean to enjoy a peaceful and relaxing holiday. You will fall in love with the master bedroom - it's huge with cool shiny cremic tiles. When the sun comes through the curtains, the whole room lits up a spectaclur orangy red shade. Words cannot describe it! Unfortunately, the fruit trees at Casa Nan were not ready, but they are loaded with fruit, By June there should be tons of fruit to eat. To our surprise, we enjoyed our stay at Casa Nan guest house because of the rustic environment - away from the rat-race. Air pollution is zero! Belize is a beautiful country with green landscape everywhere you look. The neighborhood unique - it's like the country in the city - 5 minutes walk to SPICY downtown (stores and fresh fruit market place and the crystal clear river - for swimming or soaking your tired feet) San Ignacious - welcome to culture of Belize. Next to Casa Nan, there is a bar, down to street is are several small stores where you purchase food supplies for Casa Nan, should you prefer to cook meals at the guest house. At Casa Nan you will be greeted by the caretaker, who will (if asked) take you on short trips and drive you around the countryside and introduce you to the local people and tell you to best place to buy things cheaply. Our sole purpose of going to Belize was to buy a little piece of paradise (a house and lot). After visiting the surrounding areas in San Ignacio and Corozal. We also had the caretaker of Casa Nan drive us around the country. He is a wealth of vital information about Belize. Even though our stay in Belize was short, it was a pleasureable one.and we hope to return again in November 2010. My recommendation - visit Belize first, enjoy and stress-free stay at Casa Nan then decide if Belize is right for you.

Owner response: Thank you Paulette and David. We are glad that your trip and stay was great. One day soon, when we are all in San Ignacio, we shall have to meet. Thank you for you lovely comments on this web site. The people in Belize sure help to make a visit, or potential move there a blessing. A lot of North American cities could learn from them. Thanks again. Fred and Susan

We stayed at Casa Nan in March 2010 for a week. It is as described, comfortable, well equipped and walking distance to town. The neighbors are friendly, just smile and say "hi" and you will be rewarded with a great smile! The little boys down the street are cute also, they stopped in to say "hi" one day and told us all sorts of stories about themselves. They are 7 years old so it was very cute. We love the Belizean people! Roy was a great help but not intrusive. Having a washing machine was extremely helpful, just do your laundry early in the day as it seems to get breezy around mid day and your clothes will be dry before you know it. We rented Fred's vehicle, and went to Spanish Look Out, and a few other places. If you get lost just stop and ask for directions, everyone is very helpful. We actually did get lost and the people we asked for help sent us to a ferry landing with a hand cranked ferry. The river was beautiful from that vantage point. One thing you may be interested in is that if the day is hot and you want to swim both Cahal Pech and the San Ignacio Resort just down the road have a plan that for $5.00 US per person you can go for a swim We spent time at both locations, we enjoyed Cahal Pech the most. The $5.00 lets you stay all day. Our son swam and we had a cocktail of two. Try the Belizean Snow at Cahal Pech, it is very tasty. We went canoeing on the river, down by the market. Just go down to the river and a fellow named Tony is there every day with his canoes. It was about $18. US for the whole day, the river was low but we managed to have a great time. The nice thing about Casa Nan is that you can cook your own food, the fridge is large so if you get to the market and are tempted by all the great produce you have lots of room to store it. We didn't eat out much but one place we liked was in Benque, which is about a 10 minute drive from San Ignacio. It was a restaurant called Benque Bennies, There are signs as you come into Benque so you can't miss it. Their food was really tasty and very reasonable. All and all we had a great time, from start to finish the experience was positive and hassle free. We hope to return to Belize soon, it's a fabulous country. If we find ourselves in San Ignacio we would love to stay at Casa Nan. It suited us just fine.

Owner response: Thank you Sue. Glad you had a great experience. Now you know how we fell in love with the town and the people. Our lives in North America are to cluttered with what we think is important. It is so nice to relax and take in the scenery right outside the door and smell that great unpolluted fresh, moist air. The fruit and vegetables have a taste that we will never experience from our Canadian stores. My Sue said she could become a vegetarian there with all the fresh fruit. Look forward to you staying with us again. Regards, Fred and Susan
