One of the few remaining authentic Florida coastal cottages, Winchester Cottage is 1933 vintage. Please note that the address is 509 Tallahassee Street, in-town Carrabelle. The beach is only 2 miles away.
Emmett Winchester, a builder, constructed the house for his daughter Emma and presented it to her that year as a wedding present. "Miss Emma" lived out her entire life here, and there are still relatives of hers in town.
Construction is tongue-and-groove pine, used for floors, walls and ceilings. The house sits up 2 easy steps, so that it is well-ventilated underneath. The large, breezy front porch runs the full width of the house and can seat a crowd for relaxing reading or socializing. Screen doors fore and aft allow nice air circulation in the temperate months if you prefer fresh air instead of AC.
Our area is world famous for its birding opportunities and butterfly migrations. Carrabelle is surrounded by water and forest, so there are ample opportunities to commune with nature. No traffic lights, no high buildings (3-story maximum) - the Forgotten Coast is poised to stay special, just for a few.
Sidewalks are available in nearly all downtown areas accessible from the Cottage. It sits at the start of one of the best walks in the area - down to and around the harbor, then along a lane with a Florida swamp on one side and the Gulf of Mexico on the other. And all in about 3 miles. Want to let someone else cook for a change? There are half a dozen restaurants in Carrabelle, and more close by!

Rates include linens & cleaning fee but we add 9% sales tax.
We require a 20% deposit upon booking with balance due 2 weeks before Check-In.
Additional Non-Refundable $100 Deposit for pet.
Up to a $250 damage fee may be assessed if damage occurs.

The Unique Benefits of this House
The Cottage has a real "quiet neighborhood" feel, surrounded by families and retired couples. Tall, shady oaks abound on Tallahassee Street. Within 3 or 4 blocks, in addition to downtown and the harbor, are city parks with restrooms and tennis, basketball, and room for the kids to play.
