Frommer's 2011 Guide to the Bahamas lists Chef Neff's properties as a "Find" with an excellent review. Harbour Island is a gem in the Caribbean recently discovered by discriminating travelers. Our Island has been named the NUMBER ONE Island destination by Travel and Leisure Magazine. The pink sand beach is one of the ten most beautiful in the world (Conde Nast).
Chef Neff's suites are a three-minute walk to the beach and a two minute walk to the Bay. The two separate suites are on private grounds with woods,song birds and flowers. There is a Crow's Nest for your morning coffee while you watch the sunrise or to climb for an evening drink.
The suites' private entrances and lovely private patios make them a very special place for just you. The rate is far below any local hotel rooms, and with a kitchen included there is no reason to eat every meal out. And a day away by boat at the near-by secluded Man Island (with a picnic and snorkeling) is always a wonderful experience.
If you have a shopping bent there are boutiques to rival any place in the world -- as well as Native shops for local treasures.
Most visitors rent a golf cart to get around while here. The Bahamian $ is on a par with the USD and there is an ATM at the local bank. Credit Cards are accepted almost everywhere.
I have provided small Brink's safes in each suite for your passports or other valuables.

Chef Susan Neff, owner and manager of the two suites, came to Harbour Island as the Executive Chef of the Coral Sands Hotel. Susan purchased the property in 2000 and spent the last nine years renovating the home and adding to it. When she left Coral Sands Hotel in 2004 she began renting two suites that she had added for guests.
The gardens are especially lovely and are enjoyed by all of the guests, as is the Crow's Nest and the view from it.

My husband and I stayed in a combination of the Chef Neff's getaway and Heron's Nest apartments for 8 days over the new year period. Both apartments include a kitchen or kitchenette, full bathroom and bedroom equipped with many amenities for a relaxing and comfortable stay. The apartments are very centrally located. It is a 3 minute walk to the beach and 5-10 minutes to the center of town. We did not rent a golf cart for most of our stay and most places we went were within walking distance. Susan is an excellent host and willing to provide tips on restaurants to eat, places to go and tourist activities such as snorkelling. If we needed anything, we just had to ask. The apartments are excellent value for money as accommodation on the island are expensive and you can cater meals if you wish. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and would recommend to couples of all ages.
Recommended for:Adventure seekers, romantic getaway, tourists without a car, age 55+.

My husband and I have been visiting Harbor Island for the past six years. Fortunately, we discovered Chef Neff's suites five years ago, and have never thought of staying anywhere else. The suites are charming, comfortable, private and quiet. The grounds our beautifully maintained, and the beach is a five minute walk. These suites are a bargain compared to other accommodations on the island. Best of all is the owner, Susan, who will make you feel welcome the moment you check in--and you may even get home made cookies during your stay.
Recommended for:Romantic getaway, age 55+.

Chef Neff's rental suites are a lovely relaxing vacation destination, particularly for people working in today's stress filled business world. I have stayed in both suites; Chef Neff's Get-a-way and Heron's Nest. Both suites are spacious, with kictchens, and private patios: one has privacy when desired. Sue Neff is a gracious host and more than willing to provide directions, delicious recipes, and introductions to the local community. Sue is known by "Chef" with the local Bahamians. Her wonderful cats will wander in to keep you company. And going to sleep with the sound of the ocean is peace that is hard to find stateside. All in all, this is the best vacation value for a true "paradise found"!

We have stayed at Chef Neff's for a number of years now and are always satisfied. By now, we feel like we're coming home. The property is very cute and well-maintained. Susan, herself, is lovely and very helpful. This is the best bargain on the island! Clean, comfortable and friendly. We also really like having the mini kitchen so we can do a little bit of our own heating and cooking without going out for every single meal.

For anyone looking for a quiet restful vacation and a little piece of Paradise may we suggest Chef Ness's Heron Nest in Harbour Island. We consider it one of our luckiest finds and a truly delightful home away from home. Whether you are enjoying a Golf Cart ride, shopping in quaint Dunmore town or walking one of the worlds most beautiful beaches each day is a true delight. The two suites , each totally separate with its own private patio are comfortable clean and cozy with all of the amenities to enjoy your own meals if you so desire. There are many delightful places to eat out. The Bahamian residents are warm friendly and helpful and as for our Susan, she makes each visit a joy, We can't wait to go back again!

My husband and I have been returning to Heron's Nest for one or two weeks every New Year's holiday since 2007. I initially discovered Chef Neff's (Susan) listing on VRBO and from our first trip there, we never considered another location. Because I enjoy cooking even on vacation, we chose Heron's Nest for the larger kitchen. The apartment is precisely as advertised: charming, spacious, well appointed and maintained, and a very cozy "home away from home" for us. The beautifully landscaped grounds of tropical flowers and trees, our private patio covered in bougainvilla, the lofty Crow's Nest perfect for a pre--dinner cocktail or after dinner coffee, the soothing sounds of ocean surf at night, all make for an idyllic vacation. An added delight for us, being animal lovers, is the trio of cats who rule the domain and often come by for a visit, pretending to chase the geckos that laze on the flower bedecked patio. We highly recommend either Heron's Nest or the smaller, Chef Neff's Getaway, for a very restful, relaxing and low-key vacation on this tiny "treasure" island. Most certainly, the weekly price is a tremendous value when compared to the other rentals and hotels on Harbour Island. Susan is extremely helpful, with her vast knowledge of (all) the islands, in arranging or assisting with island activities, eating establishments and side trips.
