White Sands National Monument is less than an hour away, as are other areas for hiking, exploring and relaxing. Nearby museums, art galleries, spas and unusual shops are wonderful and welcoming. The Organ Mountains on the eastern edge of the city offer their grandeur to all, and reflect color and light distinctively throughout the day.

Why the Owner Chose Las Cruces
Southwest New Mexico is a unique part of paradise. Las Cruces and Old Mesilla have a distinctive history in an uncommon environment. Here are desert and mountains, wide open vistas and sunny skies. The sunrise and sunset are equally beautiful and the air is clean and refreshing. I feel happy and at ease in this warm, friendly community. Mesilla Abodes is both convenient and quiet. Just on the border of Old Mesilla with Las Cruces, access is easy from I-10 and to all points in both towns. Our beautifully landscaped complex has its own tranquil and appealing atmosphere.
The Unique Benefits at this Condo
Old Mesilla itself is one of the most interesting and well-preserved ‘New’ Mexican towns in the USA. I love to walk through the village in the early mornings and at sunset to enjoy the special beauty of the rustic dwellings, irrigation canals and pecan groves while the relationship changes between the sky and the earth.
The Organ Mountains, everybody’s favorite, are a wondrous place to explore up close or simply admire from a distance. I love to hike at Aguirre Springs or journey into Soledad Canyon. Soaking up the healing waters of the hot springs in nearby Truth or Consequences is also a joy for both body and spirit. The Farm and Ranch Heritage Museum is a nifty gem with fabulous and unexpected exhibits. And, of course, Las Cruces has a wonderful thriving community of art galleries and artists - many are friends - and their original art is featured in Mesilla Abodes.
The central plaza still has its original design and functionality, and is the heart of Old Mesilla. Mariachi performances and local craft vendors are sometimes found here. Also home of the Fountain Theater - our quirky, local independent movie house, the Basilica of San Albino, plus restaurants and shops for all tastes. Come with no expectations as it is a one-of-a-kind place!
Fine place for a walk. New Rio Grande environmental and restoration information and wildlife exhibits.
Aguirre Springs, nestled in an eastern slope of the Organ Mountains, offers awesome views of the Tularosa Basin, including parts of White Sands. About a half hour drive up Route 70, Aguirre Springs is a dramatic getaway into nature year round and a cool oasis in the summer. You can walk to the top of the Organs at Baylor Pass, do a cool four-mile loop amidst trees and canyons or have your own wonderful nature walk of any length. This is a great place for a picnic lunch too. Bring enough water as none is available up there. Watch for the road to the entrance on the right shortly after crossing over the ridge.
This fascinating place is a real local cultural gem with thoughtful exhibits, a lecture series and interactive exhibits. They say it brings to life the 3,000 year history of farming and ranching in New Mexico - but that pretty much encompasses everything about rural New Mexico. Be sure to include this museum in your plans.
Located in the downtown area of Las Cruces currently undergoing revitalization, Branigan Cultural Center is one of the city's terrific museums. The permanent exhibit on the history and culture of Mesilla/Las Cruces is engaging and inforamtive. There are excellent traveling and temporary exhibits, often featuring local artists, as well as lectures, concerts and other events.
Owner's Map of Las Cruces
My favorite part of traveling is getting to know what is special about the new place, what the people are like and how life is lived there. There is a particular blend of old-world Mexican and the rural wild west here that intrigues and informs me. And it keeps calling me back. This un-retouched photo was taken at sunset on a full moon night deep in the dunes at White Sands National Monument.

Our stay in Sofia's Suite was amazing. The condo was clean, cozy and inviting. The view was amazing and everything we needed was available down to the small baggies. We dined in most evenings and felt like we were coming home after a day of sight seeing . Theresa was very accommodating and was a joy to get to know. We loved having a washer/dryer in the unit and used it several times, since we were there for one week. It was sad to leave and we hope to return in the near future. We would recommend this property without a moments hesitation.

We had a lovely time exploring southern NM, thanks to the comforts of Sophia's Suite. It is truly a serene and nourishing place. The kitchen is beautifully appointed with everything we could ask for. The bed is super comfy, and the living room so well-suited to watch the collection of DVDs on the flat screen TV. The setting is magical...palm trees, roses and other blooming flowers, and the architecture of the complex is so picturesque. Thank you, Gail, for allowing us to bring our wonderful dog, Molly, with us. She fit right in with the beautiful surroundings! We hope to return for a longer visit next time.

My wife and I spent the time from 10.5.2011 to 10.12.2011 at the Mesilla Abodes in Sofia's Suite. This very comfortable condominium was like home to us. From there it was easy to reach any place in Las Cruces and Mesilla. We always looked forward to return to the beauty and warm atmosphere of "our home" Sofia's Suite. Whatever we needed was there - even thoughtfully selected books and DVD's - which we enjoyed greatly. The interior design pleased us with it's tasteful furniture, fabrics and their lovely colors, textures and other qualities. The inviting looking kitchen and it's most practical implements encouraged us to prepare the foods we like. We wished that we could have stayed there a little bit longer - but our time in this charming corner of NM was limited. Luckily we made lots of photos which help us to remember the beautiful, joyful and peaceful time we spent at Sophia's Suite. We can only recommend the flair and ambiance at Sofia's most highly for potential guests. You'll love it!

We both enjoyed our stay so much we have not stopped talking or thinking about it since we left. The proximity to the town was perfect for morning walks and enjoying evening cocktails. The condo was nicely decorated and very comfortable. We are hoping to come back next year, this time we hope to bring a couple of our friends. We will think of our vacation often, especially in January and February while we are shoveling snow and battling our New England winter!

We just wanted to say what a perfect time we had in Las Cruces, thanks in large part to your excellent accommodations! Everything was clean, well-maintained, and very comfortable. We found our stay care-free because we knew we had a great base to operate from - not only was the flat convenient to our Habitat work location, but we also spent a lot of time in Old Mesilla because it was so near. We found everything we needed whether we wanted to whip up a meal or hang around the pool. Your directions booklet was very helpful with local attractions and even figuring out the TV controls! And thanks again for the use of the phone – we were able to keep in touch with home and confirm our local appointments. We really were cozy, and would definitely recommend it to anyone wanting to visit Las Cruces or Old Mesilla.

We stayed the first two weeks of March in Sofia's Suite. We found the condo to be just as described and the pictures on the website to be very accurate. The condo had everything we needed for a great stay in Las Cruces. We were not disappointed. Gail and Teresa were very easy to work with and did everything to make our stay pleasant. The location of the condo is great. We were within walking distance to the Old Mesilla Plaza. The plaza has wonderful shops and restaurants. We loved the whole Las Cruces area. We enjoyed our stay so much, we are planning on returning next year.

We definitely enjoyed our 2 week stay at this well appointed and very comfortable condo. The owner and her agent were very gracious and very respectful of our privacy. Teresa was just a phone call away if you had a question or something was needed. Our stay was very quiet and relaxing and we would definitely recommend this property for its ambiance and proximity to all Las Cruces has to offer.

My wife and I spent a week in this condo. It is convenient to Old Mesilla (we walked to the old Plaza), downtown, the University and I-10. The unit is tastefully decorated and features local artists' works (we met one on the annual Las Cruces Artists Studio Tour). It was well equipped, with good array of kitchen utensils and other thoughtful items (paper and pens, tissues, spices, shampoo and conditioner, etc.). The complex is nicely landscaped, very quiet and the residents friendly. I would strongly recommend this unit to anyone.
