Keywords:  Guesthouse in High Desert Country

INTROVERT HEAVEN IS A MODEST PLACE OF SIMPLE PLEASURES, SIMPLY EXQUISITE THAT IS, AND WELL LOVED.

There are 2 independent guesthouses -- a 1 bedroom / 1 bath guesthouse and a 2 bedroom / 1 bath guesthouse.

This is the 1 Bedroom West Wing (see owner #321197 for the companion East Wing ). If the West Wing is full on the dates you want, I honor the 2 person rate in the 2 bedroom East Wing. When the dates on this calendar are full, it means both wings have been reserved. If the dates are open, it means at least one of the guesthouses is available.

There is more information and more pictures at the Introvert Heaven website (link listed below "Links to more information").

As your host, I am not a professional innkeeper. I have this one property and a day job. I treat guests like neighbors. The guesthouses were designed to match my own nature rather than a vacation resort -- I like my digs to be private, peaceful and as close to the outdoors as I can get without sacrificing the comfort of shelter. I hope to retire here but for now it is a wonderful get-away, perfect for independence, solitude, romance, comfort, writing and so on.

We are located between Taos and the Ski Valley, 6 miles northeast of town and 16 miles west of Taos Ski Valley. There are hiking and biking trails in every direction. Not to mention winter skiing and summer rafting. The walls breathe, the heat is in the floor. No chemicals are used cleaning. The yards are fenced in with a patio and grill -- ready for you and your well behaved dog. You can't see any neighbors out the span of south solar windows that face the desert and 180 degree mountain view.

Besides big windows and long views, both guesthouses have private entrances, private fenced in yards, a well equipped kitchen. Wi-Fi, Satellite HDTV, DVD, CD player, washer, dryer, bring your cell phone. Some phones don't work here and I have an extra to lend you in that case. Your choice of organic coffee or tea is supplied. The kitchen is stocked with spices and staples. Also by arrangement: massages by Isa, 2 mountain bikes, pre-arrival grocery shopping, travel tips and general gnoshing about Taos and what we all do within our power to make our lives work better.

HOW IS IT DIFFERENT THAN ANY OTHER BEAUTIFUL PLACE? The guesthouse is perched on the edge of a small hill and takes in the high desert geography as if it were a stage. The many windows emphasize the huge sky we are blessed with. The mountains, oh the mountains, they will continually inspire and replenish your creative juices. And don’t forget to recharge your libido. The desert always has plenty. Renew your spirit watching hawks crows play argue above coyotes slinking below. The Hot Springs hot tub is a treasure, nestled in the hillside overlooking the birds in the mornings. Then there's sunset watch and star watch. Don't turn into a prune.

WHO WOULDN’T LIKE IT HERE? You won't like it if you want to walk to restaurants or shop from here. You will like it if you want to walk your dog right out the door. There's no fireplace. I went for practical rather than romantic when building it. The East Wing has a Morso wood stove for ambiance. Once out of the yard, we're surrounded by dirt. Some of it gets inside. Critters like to be intimate. We never permanently win the battle to keep prairie dogs out of the yard in spring and summer (actually I lost control completely this summer, but they are cute) or hold back every mouse that wants to come in, especially when it gets cold. Not many bugs here though, that's a high desert blessing. The temperature swings at least 30 degrees every day.

Owner's Profile

Owner Description

Year Purchased: 2000

Hello. I am a project manager / numbers type, still a busy working gal for some years yet. I suppose that's why I make a better neighbor than innkeeper which is why I keep my prices lower than comparable properties.

Why the Owner Chose Taos

I've lived on the edge of this desert valley for 35 years. There's a lot more people in the neighborhood than there were back then, that's for sure. But the valley (100 year floodplain) is still gloriously empty. It's perched on an ancient pile of rocks at the edge of a geologic river bed that you can imagine streaming by while you're watching the coyotes trotting along the edge. There's still an underground river and the water is about 8 feet below the surface of the valley. I had this house built in 2000 as an investment and want it to be my retirement home (goddess willing). I am currently living at my old house up the street with the chickens, dogs, cats and fishes.

The Unique Benefits of this Bungalow

This is where I'd like to stay if I came to Taos on vacation. I want to be as close to nature as I can get but I'm a softie that like's comfort. Nothing needs to be extravagant but I'm old enough the bed has to be really good. The furniture has to be comfortable. I want a getaway, not a party. I have a busy life and my vacations are about slowing down and having time for introspection, rather than speeding up. There are many people, though, who use it as a base to go hiking, biking, running and skiing from. It's cozy, it has everything I might need to cook healthy meals without having to buy flour, spices, oil and such. I get transported just looking out the windows. No cars to look at, a few walkers with their dogs down in the valley. There's even more awe sitting in the hillside hot tub and being entertained by the semi-wild life.

Heaven is Right!

Guest: Lee (Ft. Worth, Texas)
Date of Stay: 09/16/11 Review Submitted: 10/04/11

What a lovely and serene spot of heaven on earth...everything was as described and then some! Being able to sit and stare at the mountain as well as the vast desert space behind the home was delightful. Upon arrival fresh eggs, and a personal visit of "what do you need?" from Jean, a restorative massage from Isa, and a well done personal home that we felt was ours for the time being. Jean has thought of everything, is available but non-intrusive, and we had any convenience we needed. Interesting music and books were on the shelves, and the hot tub down a short path was energizing in the morning and relaxing under the stars at night. I guess the best way to describe this is that all 5 senses are employed when you stay here! We cannot wait to go back! Lee, Renn, and Ricky Intovert Heaven / Sept.jpg

A Trip to Heaven in Taos

Guest: Sherry (Texas)
Date of Stay: 08/21/11 Review Submitted: 09/12/11

Introvert Heaven was a beautiful, private and safe place for me and my two dogs to visit for three weeks! As a fully stocked apartment we lacked nothing as the owner have covered every base. I felt like I was truly at home with a full kitchen and bathroom. The internet and satellite TV service was that extra touch that allowed me to feel connected when I needed to be. Again, my trip was without incident and I stayed for nearly three lovely weeks! Waking up everyday to those mountain views in a comfortable king size bed was ABSOLUTE HEAVEN!

The other reviews have said it all. Go. Just Go. This place is truly a treasure. Jean and Isa are as laid back as you can get; friendly and helpful, but not intrusive. Josie, the terrier-ist, loved it as much as we did. Actually, we're still here. We don't leave until tomorrow, but I just had to put this in writing now.

Peaceful Paradise Where Nature Abounds

Guest: Sue and Tom (Maryland)
Date of Stay: 05/23/11 Review Submitted: 06/09/11

For the third year in a row we have rented the 1 bedroom West Wing in May. When we come here the rest of the world melts away and we enjoy peace, quiet, and pure relaxation. The location is great - close to town (Taos) for restaurants and entertainment if we want it, and close to the mountains for hiking (or skiing) trails. The back property opens to a natural wildlife sanctuary! We like to sit on the back patio and watch the sun rise over the mountain - it takes your breath away. Jean and Isa are amazing hosts as well as new-found friends in Taos. We will be back again soon!

Big Mountain Views

Guest: Sarah (Albuquerque, NM)
Date of Stay: 05/10/11 Review Submitted: 05/17/11

The view of the mountains is fantastic. I could sit in the living room or the backyard and watch those mountains forever. I enjoyed the the adobe architecture and the wooden ceiling beams. The house is oriented to catch the natural sunlight and the broad mountain views and still keep your privacy. Watching the sunset from the hot tub, is enough to make even the most extreme type A personality experience total serenity.

You should stay here, but not too much since we'd like to come back..

We've stayed in Taos many times over the years as it is our favorite vacation spot close to where we live. All the VRBO Taos spots were great but there is something special about this place. It is out of the way so if you want to walk to the Plaza, this isn't your spot. But if you want total quiet, gorgeous views to the east and the mountains, the perfect hot tub spot, birds singing, patio for coffee/cocktail drinking - this is your place. It's simple, clean, has all the amenities you need, comfortable and has space enough fo 2. We really needed a place to unwind and this was really perfect for that. The map to the hot springs turned out to be great (included in the book she leaves for guests) and we were happy to make new discoveries on her suggestions. Jean is a great host and we feel lucky to have stayed here.

Aptly named

Guest: E (Austin, Tx)
Date of Stay: 03/11/11 Review Submitted: 03/17/11

My son and I stayed in the west wing for three nights skiing in Taos and exploring nearby fishing. Our home was just as billed and was a comfort as soon as we arrived. It was spotless and warm for weary travelers. The bed is very comfortable, nice linens, kitchen well appointed, electronics all worked well, water good and hot, and hot tub under the stars was fabulous! We felt quite "away from it all" yet not too secluded. Tastefully done and so cozy. Jean was very helpful and available. We will be back!

Heaven, I'm in Heaven

Guest: Kate (Inverness)
Date of Stay: 08/29/10 Review Submitted: 12/06/10

I feel blessed to have been able to claim sanctuary here at Introvert Heaven in August. Everything was welcoming and lovely. I have just booked a return visit to experience this haven in the glory of winter. I would love to pass the word about your wonderful place. It would be ideal for two friendly couples who want an adventure together. And the massage ... no words... just a very happy smile on my face. You have captured so deeply a feeling of reverence for the physical beauty of Taos. I feel connected to the amazing natural setting and relieved of the pressure of the Taos that tourists see. And I think that comes not only from your love of your home and community but from a generosity of spirit that you spread throughout the building in the books, CDs and welcoming furniture and linens you provide. Thank you so much. Kate

Most Unexpected Vacations ever!

Guest: Bad Habits (East Texas)
Date of Stay: 12/22/09 Review Submitted: 10/29/10

2009 My Husband, Son & I where every lucky to spend a week for Christmas in Taos. Watching our son ski for the first time, tubing and enjoying each other. But we were very fortunate to have found this lovley, very pleaceful house. When we arrived, we met with Jean. She went over things with us and never saw or heard a word from those wonderful people again (this was our house now). I knew right away I DID NOT WANT TO GO OR DO ANYWHERE. Just stay in my PJ's and look out through each window at the veiws and walking on the warm floors (That's controlled! It is the heater! From the floor up too!).We were content in a confortable king bed. (my son on the couch) I jumped out of bed EVERYDAY to COOK BREAKFAST! (my son wanted to know who I was and where I put this MOM) We had so much fun in the hot tub at 16 BELOW ZERO one night. Our bodies where very cozy but our hair & ears would Freeze after a few minutes (when a slash of water hit). We never heard a peep out of the joint wing. It was just the most remarkable place. At the end of the week WE DID NOT WANT TO LEAVE. I was hoping to repeat this for 2010 but when I looked to see if I could reserve it for this time someone has already got it. I was not surpised.(but hopeful it wasn't). So do not wait! Get it or I will! BY THE WAY I PUT A POOR REViEVE SO YOU WILL NOT PICK IT WHEN I DO! HA ! I know for a fact that you will have the most wonderful time (if not better) then we did, and fill right at HOME. (I am so sad right now because, I am now looking for another place there in Taos for Christmas 2010). I bet it will not met up to this past one. But we will make the best of it I am sure, Maybe we will see you there. From The Bad Habits in TYLER,TEXAS

wonderful place for a retreat

Guest: MG (Berkeley, CA)
Date of Stay: 10/07/10 Review Submitted: 10/11/10

I chose Taos for a short retreat from a very intense work schedule, and Introvert Heaven was a lovely choice. My husband couldn't join me, but I felt safe and cozy -- in fact, I kept forgetting to lock the door! I enjoyed the comfortable space and furnishings in the "West Wing," the hot tub overlooking a nature reserve, and gorgeous sunrises and sunsets. The location was excellent for all my Taos adventures including one that Jean suggested, a hike on the east rim of the Rio Grande down to natural hot springs. I had a wonderful time.
