Taos bungalow description
INTROVERT HEAVEN IS A MODEST PLACE OF SIMPLE PLEASURES, SIMPLY EXQUISITE THAT IS, AND WELL LOVED.
There are 2 independent guesthouses -- a 1 bedroom / 1 bath guesthouse and a 2 bedroom / 1 bath guesthouse.
This is the 1 Bedroom West Wing (see owner #321197 for the companion East Wing ). If the West Wing is full on the dates you want, I honor the 2 person rate in the 2 bedroom East Wing. When the dates on this calendar are full, it means both wings have been reserved. If the dates are open, it means at least one of the guesthouses is available.
There is more information and more pictures at the Introvert Heaven website (link listed below 'Links to more information').
As your host, I am not a professional innkeeper. I have this one property and a day job. I treat guests like neighbors. The guesthouses were designed to match my own nature rather than a vacation resort -- I like my digs to be private, peaceful and as close to the outdoors as I can get without sacrificing the comfort of shelter. I hope to retire here but for now it is a wonderful get-away, perfect for independence, solitude, romance, comfort, writing and so on.
We are located between Taos and the Ski Valley, 6 miles northeast of town and 16 miles west of Taos Ski Valley. There are hiking and biking trails in every direction. Not to mention winter skiing and summer rafting. The walls breathe, the heat is in the floor. No chemicals are used cleaning. The yards are fenced in with a patio and grill -- ready for you and your well behaved dog. You can't see any neighbors out the span of south solar windows that face the desert and 180 degree mountain view.
Besides big windows and long views, both guesthouses have private entrances, private fenced in yards, a well equipped kitchen. Wi-Fi, Satellite HDTV, DVD, CD player, washer, dryer, bring your cell phone. Some phones don't work here and I have an extra to lend you in that case. Your choice of organic coffee or tea is supplied. The kitchen is stocked with spices and staples. Also by arrangement: massages by Isa, 2 mountain bikes, pre-arrival grocery shopping, travel tips and general gnoshing about Taos and what we all do within our power to make our lives work better.
HOW IS IT DIFFERENT THAN ANY OTHER BEAUTIFUL PLACE? The guesthouse is perched on the edge of a small hill and takes in the high desert geography as if it were a stage. The many windows emphasize the huge sky we are blessed with. The mountains, oh the mountains, they will continually inspire and replenish your creative juices. And don’t forget to recharge your libido. The desert always has plenty. Renew your spirit watching hawks crows play argue above coyotes slinking below. The Hot Springs hot tub is a treasure, nestled in the hillside overlooking the birds in the mornings. Then there's sunset watch and star watch. Don't turn into a prune.
WHO WOULDN’T LIKE IT HERE? You won't like it if you want to walk to restaurants or shop from here. You will like it if you want to walk your dog right out the door. There's no fireplace. I went for practical rather than romantic when building it. The East Wing has a Morso wood stove for ambiance. Once out of the yard, we're surrounded by dirt. Some of it gets inside. Critters like to be intimate. We never permanently win the battle to keep prairie dogs out of the yard in spring and summer (actually I lost control completely this summer, but they are cute) or hold back every mouse that wants to come in, especially when it gets cold. Not many bugs here though, that's a high desert blessing. The temperature swings at least 30 degrees every day.

The west wing was exactly as we expected it to be. We had everything we needed, very comfortable, quiet and relaxing. There was a trust worthy fence for our two dogs. We had a wonderful breakfast at Gutiz and an equally wonderful meal at Sabrosa. The coffee provided was very good and we are picky about our coffee. We will return.

Introvert Heaven is an incredible deal. For less than the cost of most hotel rooms, you get a living area, bedroom, kitchen and bath with a fabulous view. We had a great time - thinking about coming again next summer. We took the Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad starting in Antonito. I don't think it matters much whether you start in Antonito or Chama but definitely make reservations early to get seats on the south side of the train. We sat in the parlor car with individual windows so that you can take photos from your seat without getting in anyone's way. There is an open car which was jammed and also would have been a problem if the weather hadn't been nice, but the parlor car is a luxury, not a necessity. The Williams Lake hike was probably the best wilderness hike we've taken in years. For anyone like me, decent shape but poor balance, it shouldn't be a problem. I could have done it with a single trekking pole, which is unusual for me - no scree, no scrambling, no drop offs, no huge steps. By contrast, I gave up in the middle of the short hike down to Rio Grande off the back road. There was about a 20 yard stretch with big rocks. That's all it takes for someone with lousy balance to call it quits.

Just as wonderful the second time
Just as wonderful the second time
This was our second time to stay in the West Wing of Introvert Heaven. It is the perfect place for two adults who want to get away to the Taos area but aren't interested in being in all the hustle and bustle of town the whole time. It is quiet, peaceful, and delightfully restorative to stay here. The bed is comfy, bathroom nicely appointed, kitchen great if you want to do some meals in, and the wireless and t.v.are a nice added bonus. The location is great to get into town or up to the ski valley and many other places to hike and enjoy nature. But the real reason to stay here is just the sweet "soul" of the place. The great views, the quiet, the chance to hear your own thoughts!

Stayed here late July. Just as described. Isolated but not too distant from attractions, restaurants and necessities. Just plan on an hour to the plaza area and back with traffic. Owner was very helpful in pointing out favorite restaurants and places to stock up on "at home" meals. Everything was immaculately clean and easy to find. Utensils were more than sufficient for turning out your own gourmet meals. Plus, with two ancient Springers the layout was perfect - small yard, cool floors for sleeping and lots of good smells. Listening to the coyotes as the moon came up was an additional treat. Would definitely stay here again and would recommend to friends.

My husband and I stayed for two nights and only wished it could have been longer. The property had everything we needed, and we loved returning back to it. The views, the hot tub, the heated floors, the well-stocked kitchen all made for a wonderful cozy stay. My favorite part is you can walk right out the back and take a nice hike at sunset. The Gorge trail is also nearby (driving) and is really worth it. Now I want to retire in Taos! Jean was a great host. Hope to be back someday.

Introvert Heaven was everything and more that we hoped it would be! Everything exceeded the expectations and reviews and descriptions! It was like a home away from home. We absolutely loved the hot tub! What an amazing view an allowed for such relaxation! Was an easy drive to Taos Ski Valley. The house was clean, warm, the beds were comfortable, kitchen was stocked with all necessary items. Jean was super nice and accomodating and provided us with information about Taos. She even checked in on us during our stay! We can't wait for our next ski vacation, and for our next stay @ Intovert Heaven. THANK YOU JEAN!!

Peace and quiet with great desert walking.

All the previous reviews are accurate and say it all. This location is just far enough from town to make it perfect. Never heard the neighbors. Loved the radiant floors that were always toasty warm. The owner is offsite and was a pleasure to talk to when we did see her. After many VRBO's she was the best. Great desert walking right out the back door make this place my cow-dog's favorite. We love it too.

I stayed at Introvert Heaven while attending a workshop in Taos. It was perfect for me in every respect: close to shops and restaurants in Taos, comfortable, clean, quiet, and surrounded by gorgeous scenery in every direction. The casita had everything I needed; a fully stocked kitchen, washer/dryer, internet, satellite TV, comfortable bed, hot tub, etc. The owner was a wonderful host, attentive and helpful while respecting my privacy. She even stocked it with fresh organic coffee and fresh herbs from the garden. I couldn't have been more pleased - I only hope I can return next year.

Review: The location? A perfect view of Taos mountain overlooking a wide green wash(in June anyway) with trails running from ridge to ridge. The small lawn at the Guesthouse is all you need to feel lush in such a dry area. A few flowering bushes, peach tree and well placed small stone patio, make it a beautiful place to watch the dawn and then sunset light stretch across the landscape and wrap the mountain in a golden glow. The house? Cozy, comfy, well stocked, and I loved that, when I forgot my shampoo, there was some there. And... it was half full. Conservation, a good thing. There was no conservation as regards the comfortable bed. Thank God. It was not a hard futon. Although in the past I have loved many. I am happy for a bed now. There is a pizza place at the end of the road. Maybe some of the best pizza I've had. Great salad too. Not inexpensive... and O so good. I thought I was going to cook but got lazy. Nice to have it so close. There was a large, very large bag of great coffee beans in the fridge, fresh eggs and enough milk for coffee in the am. Plus a few other condiments which would make cooking easier. There was a good washer and dryer too. It is not 'fancy',nor posh. She is not catering to the people who might prefer the Four Seasons resort. I will go back. It is beautiful, comfortable, clean and reasonable. Taos is a short drive through some of the most beautiful northern New Mexico countryside. And the land smells like sage. Turns out my husband knew Jean from the mid 70's when he lived in Arroyo Seco. I am happy to have found her place. O yes, the hot tub is clean and the view at night and in the day is spectacular.

Could live here
Could live here
This place was so well equipped with all the essentials and so much more. Even fresh eggs from their chickens down the road. The most outstanding feature is the view and and the quiet. It is located several miles from Taos towards the Rio Grande Gorge, so not within walking distance for shopping and restaurants. The view of the Sangre de Christo mts. and the everchanging skies were magical. I liked the closeness to Arroyo Seco which became my favorite place for coffee and lunch. Was here a month so became very acclimated, going for a walk in desert in the evening (right out back door) then the hot tub under the black sky with soo many stars. There were a couple minor things that went wrong, like a freak windstorm that blew cover off hot tub and the owners were readily available and took care of it immediately. It's just like their website says, they are good neighbors. There are 2 units, I stayed in the one bedroom, just me and my dog, and it was perfect. There is a 2 bedroom unit next door, and it was very quiet with those thick adobe walls. There is a laundry room between the 2 units which is very handy for long stays. I'm already planning my next stay at Introvert Heaven.

Year Purchased: 2000
About the owner: Hello. I am a project manager / numbers type, still a busy working gal for some years yet. I suppose that's why I make a better neighbor than innkeeper which is why I keep my prices lower than comparable properties.
Why the Owner Chose Taos:
I've lived on the edge of this desert valley for 35 years. There's a lot more people in the neighborhood than there were back then, that's for sure. But the valley (100 year floodplain) is still gloriously empty. It's perched on an ancient pile of rocks at the edge of a geologic river bed that you can imagine streaming by while you're watching the coyotes trotting along the edge. There's still an underground river and the water is about 8 feet below the surface of the valley. I had this house built in 2000 as an investment and want it to be my retirement home (goddess willing). I am currently living at my old house up the street with the chickens, dogs, cats and fishes.
The Unique Benefits at this Bungalow:
This is where I'd like to stay if I came to Taos on vacation. I want to be as close to nature as I can get but I'm a softie that like's comfort. Nothing needs to be extravagant but I'm old enough the bed has to be really good. The furniture has to be comfortable. I want a getaway, not a party. I have a busy life and my vacations are about slowing down and having time for introspection, rather than speeding up. There are many people, though, who use it as a base to go hiking, biking, running and skiing from. It's cozy, it has everything I might need to cook healthy meals without having to buy flour, spices, oil and such. I get transported just looking out the windows. No cars to look at, a few walkers with their dogs down in the valley. There's even more awe sitting in the hillside hot tub and being entertained by the semi-wild life.
