Last year we gave a 5 star review to this property; this year our stay was much different--difficulty with the alarm system that had no instructions (we're glad the police/fire didn't show up0, electrical outlet problems, light broken over sink, poorly functioning faucet in kitchen, and the worst--a leaking DampRid bag in the closet that ruined a pair of my shoes which I still have not received compensation for from the owner. This property has a great location and is on a quiet street, but it is old and does need updating. We are sorry our experience was less than optimal, but got no satisfaction from the owner when we contacted her within a few days of arriving for our month-long stay regarding problems.

I stayed here with my fiancee and our puppy. Candy was very easy to work with and very accomodating. The property is beautiful and the pictures don't do the house justice. Cute older interior and very clean. Great backyard too. You really can't beat the location. Downtown St. Augustine is just a few blocks away. We hope that some of our family can stay here when we get married in St Augustine next January!

Owner response: Daniel, thank you for your great review. And mostly, congratulations on your upcoming wedding in St. Augustine. It shows that you love the town, and I think it is the best and most romantic place for a wedding. Best wishes to you and your fiance, and, of course, your puppy.

We stayed here 9/13-16/12 for a girls' weekend. We rarely used our car, it was so convenient to downtown. We had plenty of room for the four of us and as long as we timed our showers, we were fine. There were plenty of other areas to get ready. The large bedroom has a huge dresser with a large mirror that we would use, too. The air conditioning worked great, but the controls were a bit hidden in the dining room. We kept adjusting the wrong one and wondered why it didn't get cool, lol. We should have called Candy. We did have a problem with the Internet, but Candy did find us a fix. She was very responsive to our needs. All the tvs were very nice and had DVD players in them. We rented from redbox and enjoyed them in the very comfortable living room. The kitchen is very well stocked. Overall, this is a great value in a great location. It isn't all modern and fancy, but it is very clean and comfortable. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Thank you, Candy!

We loved the house! It had everything we needed to have a great trip. The location gave us the ability to walk everywhere in the city. The only time we needed a car was to go to the beach. The owner (Candy) was very accommodating and great!

This home had everything it promised--fenced back yard for our dog, near downtown and attractions. Cooked dinner 4-5 nights a week--loads of room for the two of us, and lovely back yard. All in all, a great stay!

We stayed here between Christmas and New Year 2011. Really loved the location...4-5 blocks from St. George St. and walking distance to most everything. The house is well-equipped with most everything you need. Clean and comfortable and lots of room...plus it looks better on the inside than the outside. It is also pet-friendly and we were able to bring our small dog who loved to walk to the Paradise Poochie each morning for her treat. Would stay here again. There is only one full bathroom so if you have more than 2-4 people it could be difficult to manage. A WORD OF WARNING!!! The driveway is VERY narrow...a curb on one side and the house on the other. Up near the fence gate there is a plumbing pipe on the outside of the house. From the inside of your car you cannot see that there is a large, threaded screw that sticks out low from the pipe about 6 inches. I did about $2,000 worth of damage to the side of my car while backing out. DO NOT pull up near the gate unless you are in a very small car.

Owner response: Hi Stan: I am thrilled that you loved our home! And sorry to hear that you drove into the pipe sticking out from the house. Glad you wrote this warning! The Historic District homes that do have on-site parking, and many do not, were designed for horse and carriage. That was the common mode of transportation when the home was built, and, therefore the narrow driveway. Thank you, again, for choosing The Historic Bungalow as your family get-away. We hope to have you back in the future. Candy

The best part about this house is the proximity to downtown St. Augustine - it is maybe a short, 3 block walk! We stayed for a weekend and never used our car until it was time to go. Great value for the price, and we loved the enclosed, beautiful backyard. The house itself was large, clean and had everything we needed. The only negatives were that it never got quite cool enough in there for us, even though we had the A/C on the whole weekend (this was August), and we found the layout of the house to be a little unusual... although this is not a negative, really just a quirk of the house! I would highly recommend buying a several-day trolley pass to see the sights -- it's free and easy to just jump off and on to check out the town and attractions like the museums and winery. We also loved the "Haunted Pub Tour" - a fun way to see the town as well and learn some of the history.

This was our second time staying at this home and will return again in the future. This cute historic home is only a couple blocks from downtown, so the location is Perfect!! The house is very roomy and the glass enclosed porch is great! We spent alot of our time there. I highly recommend this vacation home.

                      Owner info

                      Year Purchased: 2004

About the owner: I grew up in Jacksonville, Florida, north of St. Augustine. SA always seemed like a magical place to me then and I loved going there for the beaches and sightseeing. I moved to Atlanta to attend school and build a career. SA became the part of Florida I always returned. It is my favorite place to spend time, and I look forward to making SA Florida my residence in the future. I was right, as a child: St. Augustine is magical!

Why the Owner Chose St. Augustine:
This home has been a favorite of mine for 20 years. I had the opportunity to purchase it in 2004 and could not resist. The location is perfect for a visit to St. Augustine. It is located in the historic district, but just a block or two from the traffic area. The drive over to the beach is a breeze... It is beautiful. It is comfortable and homey. I always hate to leave.

The Unique Benefits at this House:
I often park my car and not use it for days. It is convenient to everything. The beauty of the huge oak trees still blows me away. The sound of the church bells from Memorial Presbyterian, two blocks away, is a delight. I love early evening strolls through downtown. It is as if you have escaped to another centuray. The architecture is stunning.
