We stayed at the South Fork Cabin for two weeks and it was awesome. The hosts are excellent and the cabin is everything you could hope for. I would highly recommend this to anyone. Have not done much fishing in the past several years but we really got the bug after our stay...Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 3/3

My family just returned from the Gentry River Ranch. We were there for 8 nights with another family (8 of us all together, which included 3 teens and an 11 year old). Our cabin (the North Fork Cabin) was more than we had ever hoped for. It's also the perfect location for exploring Glacier National Park, Whitefish, the Swan Valley, and Flathead Lake. The kitchen is well-stocked with cookware, utensils, etc. It even has plenty of baking pans and spices. A gas grill on the covered back porch came in very handy. We ate almost all of our meals at the cabin and packed lunches for our days on the trail. The grocery stores in Columbia Falls were excellent. The kids had the loft & TV to themselves, as well as a bathroom. The two couples slept great in the two main floor bedrooms, also with one bathroom. This is an excellent home to return to after a busy day of exploring. Pack light because the washer & dryer are right in the cabin (they even supply detergent!). Bring water shoes for the river down below--it's a short walk to the main branch and worth it. Bring carrots for the horses!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 3/3

Upon arriving with our party of 6 from various parts of the country, Deb greeted us by name, making us feel welcome and ready to begin an adventure of a lifetime. We were amazed with the cleanliness, the uniqueness of cabin design and items furnished by the owner's that exactly matched the pictures and descriptions that were online. The views of the Rocky Mountains in the morning while looking across pastures of grazing horses gave us that true western feeling. The “Big Sky” State lived up to its reputation with warm days, cool nights and an unsurpassed view of the stars at night. We cooked all our gourmet meals in the fully furnished kitchen and barbecued on the deck facing the Flathead River. We used the cabin as our base camp for Glacier National Park, and the surrounding cities of Kalispell, Bigfork and Whitefish. The washer and dryer plus supplies kept us ready to look presentable after a day on the river or trails. Part of our party booked a full day fly fishing float trip with Kirk, who was a very patient guide in teaching Janet how to fly fish (One o’clock stop, ten o’clock drop and mend) while letting Al, who was experienced, do his own thing. The owner's provided a riverside lunch and drinks halfway through the trip to boast our energy for the remaining trip. Our party was invited up to the owner's home for drinks and hors d' oeuvres and got treated to the authentic feel of Montana life. Kirk and Deb are definitely positive ambassadors for Montana!!! We will spread the good word about Gentry River Ranch.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

The cabin/house is a great place for visiting the Glacier National Park. You can't beat the views from their place - mountainview from the front and river view from the back porch. We saw a double rainbow while we were there. Kirk and Deborah are great hosts. The cabin is recently built. So, pretty much everything is in great condition. We came with 2 little children. I would come back again here.Recommended for: People with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

Our cabin was beautiful and immaculate. It sits on the banks of the Flathead river, and has a beautiful view out the front door of the Swan Mountain range. We opted for the ranch vacation, which meant we were taken on horse back rides into the mountains with a wonderful box lunch, escorted on a fly fishing trip to a nearby mountain lake and shown around the area by the Gentry's . All meals were fabulous, conversation was fun and interesting and the setting: divine! We then headed off to Glacier for a few days, which is just a short hop away. This is a great spot for a couples getaway like ours), a family vacation or a flyfishing trip that produces great excursions into the wild but brings you back to a hot shower, comfy bed and wonderful meals. I'm trying to get a group of women together to go back and ride, fish and have massage!! Thank you Gentry's for a great vacation !Recommended for: People with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, girls getaway, sightseeing.

It was love at first sight! My husband surprised me with this vacation ...and I was thrilled to note that the cabins were beautifully decorated and immaculate. They are perched on the high banks of the FlatHead river, so it is lovely to go on the porch in the morning with coffee and just listen to the river and the birds singing a duet. We loved our horseback rides into the mountains; We loved the incredible meals that were served at the main house. We loved our fly fishing trip to Robinson Lake (did you know you can catch Greyling?). And most of all we loved the charming Gentry family. We can't wait to return! BTW, not a single problem with airplane noise, TV , or anything else... All details were perfect. Thank you Gentry's!!!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

My wife and I stayed for a week (September 11 - 18, 2010) and had problems which detracted from the quiet, peaceful stay we expected. There are two cabins along the river side north of the owners house. We were put in South Fork cabin which is nearest to the house, We stayed in there for one night and encountered the following problems: The hot water was not hot enough and also had a sour sulphurous smell. The sliding closet doors in the bedroom were off the rail and not working. The metal towel rail in the bathroom came loose and fell, just missing my bare foot. A noise awoke us in the night which came from some water treatment system. When we informed the owner next day he said we could move to the North Fork cabin which we did. Lucky for us this was not taken!!! This cabin was ok but the water was just hot enough! ALSO! Glacier international airport is just across the river and there were noisy planes at times. Check this out on yahoo maps not google. The TV is not connected to any TV service and is only a dvd monitor. The stereo system is a portable radio. THE RANCH AND THE CABINS ARE UP FOR SALE!Owner response: We are extremely disappointed that our cabin on the river did not meet the expectations of our Brittish guests. There must have been some misunderstanding about the TV VCR, but we now have Satellite TV All of our other guests have written wonderful comments about our cabins and the setting on the river. The airport is 12 miles across the river, not just across the river as these folks said. We did everything we could to accommodate these two, but it was just not for them. Our guest log will show how satisfied our past guests have been and we will continue to do everything we can to make sure they have a good stay. This couple was more interested in watching TV than anything else. The majority of our guests come here to get away from that. We are sorry that it did not not work out for them. Sincerely, Kirk Gentry

Even better than the pictures! Perfect location, close to west Glacier Park entrance. Located between a branch of the Flathead River and mountains on a scenic horse ranch. Get the feeling of being away from it all, while still being close to several towns with stores, restaurants, activities, etc. Cabin looks brand new, inside and out. It is decorated very tastefully and was immaculately clean. Beds were super comfortable. I was afraid since the temperature hit the 90s while we were there that the cabin would be hot when we returned in the evening, but it was always comfortable. Owners were super helpful and friendly both before and during our stay. Would definitely go back!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

The cabin is a great place for a family vacation/stay. Our family of four (2 adults/2 teenagers) felt right at home here. We did not meet our hosts on arrival but they were friendly accommodating and informative. We used this as our base for our many daily adventures. We probably should have stayed a few more days as the week flew by. We loved how central this was to the airport by car and everywhere in the area we travelled. It is close to Glacier National Park where we hiked, white water rafted and took the Red Jammer Bus tour. We also recommend the zip line at Big Mountain for an adventure you won't soon forget! The nature and scenery is breath taking and to come back to the cabin at the end of the day to make a meal and enjoy the back porch was so wonderful. It is fully furnished and clean. The nearby towns offer a diverse mix of cultures, restaurants and stores with each one being unique. We still talk about this being our favorite trip so far and the accomodations had a lot to do with that.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, sightseeing.

About the owner: Kirk Gentry - Flathead Valley resident & business owner since 1990. Former Owner Spotted Bear Ranch, a Bob Marshall Wilderness Orvis Endorsed Fishing Lodge and big game hunting outfitter from 1990 through 2004.
Why the Owner Chose Columbia Falls:
We built 2 cabins because we wanted to share the breathtaking beauty.
By locating it right on the Flathead River, I took advantage of the gorgeous views & seclusion. The cabins are approximately 1300 sq. ft. with custom log features and all the amenities of a fully furnished vacation home. It's proximity to Glacier National Park and central location just outside of Columbia Falls makes it ideal for accessing all the outdoor activities available in Northwest Montana's Flathead Valley.
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
Our guests have told us they really enjoy Cabin on the River because...
1) it's proximity to Glacier National Park, Columbia Falls, Kalispell, Whitefish & Bigfork makes it very convenient.
2) it's located right on the bank of the Flathead River, offering solitude & scenery with views of Flathead River and Glacier National Park. And,
3) it's completely furnished making it a comfortable and economical lodging choice.
