Great Family reunion location!!!!

Upon arriving with our party of 6 from various parts of the country, Deb greeted us by name, making us feel welcome and ready to begin an adventure of a lifetime. We were amazed with the cleanliness, the uniqueness of cabin design and items furnished by the owner's that exactly matched the pictures and descriptions that were online. The views of the Rocky Mountains in the morning while looking across pastures of grazing horses gave us that true western feeling. The “Big Sky” State lived up to its reputation with warm days, cool nights and an unsurpassed view of the stars at night. We cooked all our gourmet meals in the fully furnished kitchen and barbecued on the deck facing the Flathead River. We used the cabin as our base camp for Glacier National Park, and the surrounding cities of Kalispell, Bigfork and Whitefish. The washer and dryer plus supplies kept us ready to look presentable after a day on the river or trails. Part of our party booked a full day fly fishing float trip with Kirk, who was a very patient guide in teaching Janet how to fly fish (One o’clock stop, ten o’clock drop and mend) while letting Al, who was experienced, do his own thing. The owner's provided a riverside lunch and drinks halfway through the trip to boast our energy for the remaining trip. Our party was invited up to the owner's home for drinks and hors d' oeuvres and got treated to the authentic feel of Montana life. Kirk and Deb are definitely positive ambassadors for Montana!!! We will spread the good word about Gentry River Ranch.

Great Place and Hospitality

The cabin/house is a great place for visiting the Glacier National Park. You can't beat the views from their place - mountainview from the front and river view from the back porch. We saw a double rainbow while we were there. Kirk and Deborah are great hosts. The cabin is recently built. So, pretty much everything is in great condition. We came with 2 little children. I would come back again here.

Doesn't get any better

Our cabin was beautiful and immaculate. It sits on the banks of the Flathead river, and has a beautiful view out the front door of the Swan Mountain range. We opted for the ranch vacation, which meant we were taken on horse back rides into the mountains with a wonderful box lunch, escorted on a fly fishing trip to a nearby mountain lake and shown around the area by the Gentry's . All meals were fabulous, conversation was fun and interesting and the setting: divine! We then headed off to Glacier for a few days, which is just a short hop away. This is a great spot for a couples getaway like ours), a family vacation or a flyfishing trip that produces great excursions into the wild but brings you back to a hot shower, comfy bed and wonderful meals. I'm trying to get a group of women together to go back and ride, fish and have massage!! Thank you Gentry's for a great vacation !

Wonderful retreat

It was love at first sight! My husband surprised me with this vacation ...and I was thrilled to note that the cabins were beautifully decorated and immaculate. They are perched on the high banks of the FlatHead river, so it is lovely to go on the porch in the morning with coffee and just listen to the river and the birds singing a duet. We loved our horseback rides into the mountains; We loved the incredible meals that were served at the main house. We loved our fly fishing trip to Robinson Lake (did you know you can catch Greyling?). And most of all we loved the charming Gentry family. We can't wait to return! BTW, not a single problem with airplane noise, TV , or anything else... All details were perfect. Thank you Gentry's!!!

Awesome accommodations, loved the mountain views and location. We loved the spacious cabin for our Christmas time together. We stayed for a full week, wish we could have stayed longer. We would definitely return if we are in the area again.

My wife and I stayed for a week (September 11 - 18, 2010) and had problems which detracted from the quiet, peaceful stay we expected. There are two cabins along the river side north of the owners house. We were put in South Fork cabin which is nearest to the house, We stayed in there for one night and encountered the following problems: The hot water was not hot enough and also had a sour sulphurous smell. The sliding closet doors in the bedroom were off the rail and not working. The metal towel rail in the bathroom came loose and fell, just missing my bare foot. A noise awoke us in the night which came from some water treatment system. When we informed the owner next day he said we could move to the North Fork cabin which we did. Lucky for us this was not taken!!! This cabin was ok but the water was just hot enough! ALSO! Glacier international airport is just across the river and there were noisy planes at times. Check this out on yahoo maps not google. The TV is not connected to any TV service and is only a dvd monitor. The stereo system is a portable radio. THE RANCH AND THE CABINS ARE UP FOR SALE!

Owner response:We are extremely disappointed that our cabin on the river did not meet the expectations of our Brittish guests. There must have been some misunderstanding about the TV VCR, but we now have Satellite TV All of our other guests have written wonderful comments about our cabins and the setting on the river. The airport is 12 miles across the river, not just across the river as these folks said. We did everything we could to accommodate these two, but it was just not for them. Our guest log will show how satisfied our past guests have been and we will continue to do everything we can to make sure they have a good stay. This couple was more interested in watching TV than anything else. The majority of our guests come here to get away from that. We are sorry that it did not not work out for them. Sincerely, Kirk Gentry

Amazing Getaway

Even better than the pictures! Perfect location, close to west Glacier Park entrance. Located between a branch of the Flathead River and mountains on a scenic horse ranch. Get the feeling of being away from it all, while still being close to several towns with stores, restaurants, activities, etc. Cabin looks brand new, inside and out. It is decorated very tastefully and was immaculately clean. Beds were super comfortable. I was afraid since the temperature hit the 90s while we were there that the cabin would be hot when we returned in the evening, but it was always comfortable. Owners were super helpful and friendly both before and during our stay. Would definitely go back!

Perfect getaway for the family

Guest: Michiko (Ephrata, WA)
Date of Stay: 08/20/09 Review Submitted: 09/01/09

The location and condition of the cabin was just perfect for our family. The cabin located on a spur of the Flathead River, not more than 500 yards from joining the main river itself, was comfy, cozy and clean. We prepped and ate most of our meals at the cabin. The covered porch off the back was perfect place to BBQ, eat and relax. Fred, the property manager, was warm and welcoming. He also was our guide on a fly fishing trip. I can't imagine a more perfect location to see Glacier and getaway from it all with family. The Gentry's really nailed it. Perfect location, great accommodations and excellent service. I look forward to returning and doing more exploring of the area.

Great place to stay

Our stay at the Gentry River Range was wonderful. The cabin is clean and provides all the amenities needed to enjoy vacation. The cabin is secluded so you can enjoy the beauty of the river running by - escape the hustle of town and crowds of vacationers. When you are ready to leave the peaceful cabin, you are only 30 minutes away from Glacier Natl. Park - a must see while in Montana. Plan on spending 2 days visiting Glacier so you can drive through, hike, and fly fish.

The cabin is a great place for a family vacation/stay. Our family of four (2 adults/2 teenagers) felt right at home here. We did not meet our hosts on arrival but they were friendly accommodating and informative. We used this as our base for our many daily adventures. We probably should have stayed a few more days as the week flew by. We loved how central this was to the airport by car and everywhere in the area we travelled. It is close to Glacier National Park where we hiked, white water rafted and took the Red Jammer Bus tour. We also recommend the zip line at Big Mountain for an adventure you won't soon forget! The nature and scenery is breath taking and to come back to the cabin at the end of the day to make a meal and enjoy the back porch was so wonderful. It is fully furnished and clean. The nearby towns offer a diverse mix of cultures, restaurants and stores with each one being unique. We still talk about this being our favorite trip so far and the accomodations had a lot to do with that.

As Office Manager for Gentry River Ranch, I was extremely pleased to hear how much our guests enjoyed their stay in 'Cabin on the River'. All of our 2008 guests gave us positive feedback with the most mentioned amenities being solitude and the view from our beautiful riverside location. We're anticipating a significant increase in interest for our Montana 'Cabin on the River' and guided fly fishing trips. Give us a call at (406) 892-1464 to reserve your Montana dream cabin...

Cabin on the River

Date of Stay: 09/25/08 Review Submitted: 01/12/09

Ten years ago, I worked as a fishing guide in Montana alongside Kirk and Fred. This past year I decided that I wanted to go back to Montana and share some of my past experiences with someone special. This was her first time to "big sky country." As I planned our trip, knowing we could only go for a long weekend, I happened to "bump" into the Cabin on the River website. To my surprise, it was owned by Kirk. I quickly made reservations. Kirk met us upon arrival (end of September 2008), and quickly made us felt welcomed. We were blown away by the peaceful settings and views; not to mention that we were literally right on the Flat Head River. The cabin on the river had beautiful view of the river from the back deck to the scenic mountain views in the front. The cabin had everything in it that we needed: full kitchen, washer/dryer, and other daily needed amenities. It was exceptionally clean, and well maintained. The layout was perfect for us. We spent our short stay site seeing in Glacier National Park and in Montana’s beautiful “back country”. Due to the 20 minute drive from Cabin on the River to Glacier it made it extremely accessible to see some of the main attractions of the park within one day. In the “back country” we went fishing on the south fork of the Flat Head River and the Spotted Bear River and were lucky to see a bull moose running at the side of the road. The location and accommodations that we experienced were nothing less than outstanding! We will be back to visit!

We only got to stay at the cabin one night before we headed off to motorhome land. Wish we could have stayed longer and enjoyed the comforts. For our first night away from home we were still decompressing and missed internet connectivity but hopefully that's why you're going to Montana anyway! The cabin was modern, clean, attractive and peaceful. I would recommend it especially to someone wanting day trips to Glacier and fishing.

Great family cabin with a wonderful view

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit at the Gentry River Ranch by Columbia Falls in Montana. It was an ideal spot for us to visit Glacier Park. We absolutely loved the setting of the cabin next to the river. We had planned to eat out during our stay, but decided our view and incredible setting already ranked 5 stars. The kitchen was well equipped and we had a gas barbecue that was put to good use. The two-bedroom cabin was immaculate and very nicely decorated. Our hosts, Fred and Kirk, could not have been nicer. We hope to go back in the near future and would highly recommend it to anyone who interested in visiting Glacier Park, fly-fishing or exploring the area. You won’t be disappointed.

My husband and I and our two adult children were the first guests to stay in the Gentry "Cabin on the River." I stumbled across an ad while searching the web from Iowa. The cabin is simply outstanding in every way. We stayed 4 nights in July 2008, following 4 nights at the North Forty. The note I left when we departed says it all: "Your delightful 'Cabin on the River' stands out as one of the highlights of our Glacier trip. Had we fully understood the serene, remote environment when booking from Iowa, we would have spent all 8 days here. The deck is so inviting, especially at dusk. We loved all the amenities, but the setting is the draw. The cabin was outstanding in every way. Thank you for helping to make our trip complete." We used the cabin as a base for trips to Glacier National Park and surrounding areas. My children scaled to the top of Mt. Brown one day and the next we literally stayed all day at the Cabin on the River - reading on the deck, fly fishing in the river, watching the horses in the pasture, cooking on the grill. The cabin's immediate surroundings give the impression of being far from everything, yet grocery stores and restaurants are very close. The pictures on the web do not capture the full visual experience.
