Location: Zihuatanejo, Guerrero, Mexican Riviera, Mexico (Punta Penasco/La Ropa Beach - Zihuatanejo)
Accommodations: Condo, 1 Bedroom + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths (Sleeps 2-4)
Keywords: Condominium, condo, ocean view, La Ropa beach, economicial
Well by now you have likely read many other descriptions of how beautiful and friendly Zihuatanejo is, and how close the lovely La Ropa beach is to all the vacation rentals there.
You have also likely read that La Ropa beach is very good for swimming, so on any given day you will likely see a couple hundred folks in the water having fun. Su Escapada has all this just like the more expensive places, but there is something here that you will not likely find at other rentals in the La Ropa area…peace and quiet and PRIVACY.
And here’s why- at Punta Penasco (the building name) there are ONLY four units in the whole building (just four!). What you will be renting are the TWO top floors with the TWO top ocean-view decks. Unlike larger condo developments, you do not have people coming and going day and night...you will rarely see or hear anyone else here during your stay. Su Escapada is QUIET and PRIVATE...NO hotel feeling here!
The upper deck is off the bedroom and the next one down is off the living room. The other three units here are occupied by other gringos who may or may not be here when you are.
The building is usually totally yours to enjoy during the day, and mostly at night as well. You might find it nice to not have others around when you wish for a private swim in the pool as the pool is rarely used.
These two decks, one off your upstairs bedroom and the one off the living room (both with 100% beach/ocean views) are totally private and not seen from other units.
Su Escapada, in the four unit Punta Penasco complex, has something else that you will long remember…it is at just the right height above the beach that allows only the pounding sounds of the small surf to be heard day and night - NOT A PEEP of the jet skis and parasail powerboats can ever be heard unless you are down near the beach itself.
And here’s another nice feature of Su Escapada- you have a 99% guarantee that you will have a nice sea breeze coming in from the ocean year around. What this means for you is that the air conditioning is rarely needed.....or even the many ceiling fans for that matter.
Just keep the huge glass doors on both the upper and lower decks open and the back windows open and the cooling effect is usually perfect as it flows through the house to keep you cool and free of A/C noise.
Of course the A/C is always there should you wish it. Even the many fans will not be needed as a rule thanks to this gentle breeze. All this adds to the peace and quiet of your vacation that you will long remember.
And if you are the type that enjoys keeping in touch while you are on vacation, Su Escapada offers wireless internet. In fact, you will be able to even use the wireless signal poolside if you wish. And you will find all the news you can stand (CNN-ABC-CBS-yadda+yadda), and 68 stations of commercial-free music with the XM satellite radio on the living room level.
Taxis are cheap in Zihua IF you agree on the price before you get into the cab. With a one minute walk down to the main (only) road you can snag one of the many taxis going by day or night. Su Escapada phone works for local taxi and pizza calls.
But if you want to skip a taxi, just another four minute walk from there will get you to the many waterfront restaurants. One of which is Paty’s- known for the best shrimp cocktail and tortilla soup in all of Zihua.
Zihuatanejo, besides being a safe clean friendly town, it has one of the most user-friendly airports you will ever use. And La Ropa beach is at the airport end of town so you will never have to deal with more than two stoplights to get there or back.
At this point it’s necessary to bring up a few things you should know about the Su Escapada so you will be well informed as to what is being offered here. First, be aware that there are a fair number of stairs from the parking lot up to the pool area, and then there are another three level of stairs to the front door.
If you have problems with stairs do not consider staying at Su Escapada. Next- This well cared for condo is 18 years old and has never known the smell of a cigarette- absolutely no smoking inside or on the decks- in fact this is a no smoking building in total. Please, if you are a smoker do not rent here.
Finally, please no pets of any kind. Sleeping arrangements- the upstairs bedroom has one huge bed (8’ wide x 6.5’ long) and there is one full bathroom on this level. The two sofas downstairs serve as twin beds and can sleep two adults or children (over 13 only please because of the drop from both decks is considerable).
There is a full bathroom on this level as well. The kitchen is well equipped to dine four people. To keep rates low, maid daily service is not included. Should you wish daily maid service, please let me know so I can arange the level of service you wish to have. Maid daily service is $20 USD/day.
Remember- you have a clothes washer and dryer right in Su Escapada so personal items and sheets are done easily by you if you wish.
RATES: There is a 10% discount for stays 10 days or more. Minimum stay is five nights, and seven over Christmas/New Years. Weekly rates shown are based on five nights. Owner's Profile
Owner Description
Year Purchased: 2006
My wife Barbara and I live in Zihuatanejo full time. We were first attracted to live here because of the safe and economical living conditions, and that is still what keeps us here.
Why the Owner Chose Zihuatanejo
We bought in Zihuatanejo because it is a friendly easy area to get around. It is clean and safe with good medical care available.
The Unique Benefits of this Condo
One of the great delights of Zihuatanejo is the "mercado publico", the public market in the Centro...downtown. The fruits and vegatables come in from the local farmers...really, just a BIG farmers market. And the fish market there has everything and soooo fresh.

The view is OUTSTANDING!!! What you see is what you get. Jim is great at getting back to you quickly and fix something promptly if needed. This is a great condo that has just about everything you need. The upstairs bed is a huge king with deck and two loungers. We found the bed a little too hard for our liking but the two couches downstairs were comfortable. We felt like we were the only ones there and had the pool to ourselves. Loved going down to Paty's (4 min. walk) for a bite with our feet in the sand. The walk back up is a killer so believe the reviews. It helped us stay in shape after lots of shrimp taco's and Margaritas.

My wife and I just spent a fantastic week in this condo for our honeymoon. The pictures and description do not do this place justice. The views are incredible. You get completely unobstructed views of all of Playa La Ropa, the whole bay and the surrounding countryside. The sunsets are jaw dropping (and so are the sunrises - if you wake up that early). If any of the other units had guests - we didn't hear them. All we heard was the waves crashing on the shore and chirping crickets/geckos. The ocean-breezes kept us plenty cool, and the ceiling fans (there are five of them!) were ready to cool us down during those rare times the breeze died down. The walk to Paty’s took all of 3-4 minutes and we ate breakfast there every day. The food was excellent, the staff friendly and the prices easy on the budget. A 3-minute cab ride (about $3.00 US) got us to the other side of Zihuatanejo. If you go there we recommend Zorro’s (cold, cheap beer) and Rufo’s Grill (best pork chop I’ve ever had). As for those stairs you’ve read about…we didn’t find them to be that bad. There are plenty of places to stop on the walk back up (including the pool area that is perfect for relaxing/soaking in) where you can pause, gaze at the ocean and enjoy the view and the breeze. We definitely plan on returning to Zihuatanejo again and this condo is where we plan on staying.

We enjoyed our stay in Zihua at this well equipped condo. Everything was provided that we needed for a month long stay. Views are gorgeous from everywhere you sit. We particularly were fond of the upstairs balcony. The condo has a great location and one stays fit doing the elevation to get there. Town is a scenic walk or a quick bus ride. We visited alot of other beaches but La Ropa was our favorite.

2009 marked our first trip to Zihua, traveling with our 17 and 20 year-old kids. We are a family of experienced travelers (Chile, Norway, South Africa, Mexico, Morrocco, USA National Parks) and always look forward to new settings. Needless to say, everyone was delighted with Su Escapada itself, the idyllic surroundings, opportunities for adventures to nearby sites and a welcomed respite from Minnesota winter. We happily returned in 2011 with one of the kids and experienced a similarly wonderful stay. The view from this property warrants every possibly superlative -- truly worth the hike up. This clean and spacious condo offers a fully-equipped kitchen, two bathrooms, California king bed for parents, couches for kids, washer/dryer and DSL. Owners Jim and Barb provide detailed information on every possible question and are readily contacted via email during your stay. And the price? Can't be beat! We savored waking up and falling asleep to the melodic surf. Sunrises and sunsets are simply glorious from the condo decks. The condo's crossway breezes are perfect and we never turned on the AC. Other residents (if you ever see them) are friendly but quiet. Taxis are readily available on the road right down from the property, although we spent more time on buses on our last visit and appreciated the non-touristy experience as well as our 50 cent trips. Patty's Resturant became our daytime home, featuring superb daily yoga sessions as well as yummy food and great beach chairs. La Ropa Beach is lovely for walking, sunning, reading, parasailing, shopping from traveling vendors. We also enjoyed side trips to Playa Coral for snorkeling, Troncones for yoga immersion and divine lunch at Present Moment, downtown Ixtapa market for shopping and more. However, we were always thrilled to return to our Su Escapada haven. We completely recommend this property!

We have been to Zihautanjo every year for 12 yrs and this was the best place by far. It is a two story apartment with Kitchen, living room bathroom and deck down and a large bedroom, bath, sitting area and deck up. Is very roomy for a one bedroom. The living room couch is very comfortable as a twin bed. Both decks have the best view you could hope for. Everything was available in the kitchen and the owner made sure everything was as it should be. We spent more time than usual in the unit because we hated to leave the place.. There is a hill to clime but we are in our 70's and found the clime very manageble. The internet wifi worked without fail and was as fast as my DSL at home. We would recommend this place to everyone.

Outstanding property! The owner's description on the stairs is to be believed. If you have a problem climbing a lot of stairs and steep grades this is NOT the place to you. However, if you have the legs and lungs for the climb (about 250-300 feet above sea level) you'll be rewarded with the BEST view on La Ropa Beach. Sunsets are great 25% of the time and spectacular 75% of the time! Bring your camera! The property is wonderfully maintained, and the pool is great place to cool off during the heat of the day. Also, the A/C works really well if you need it a little cooler to sleep at night. If you dive contact Carlo Scuba, great shop with great people! Also, when you take the bus to town (it runs right in front of the property for 5.50 pesos to the market) make sure to get some pistachio ice cream at one of the shops. Zihuatanejo is full of great food, great people, great weather, and exceptional scenery. You'll not regret staying at Su Escapada!
