Immediately, we walked into a comfy, clean & modern sunlit living room, with a large outdoor deck facing the Puget Sound. We stayed for a week, and enjoyed sunsets out on the deck, visiting with family and friends. It was really nice to save on money by just cooking our own meals in the well equipped kitchen. Centrally located to a grocery store, coffee shops & cafe's, we really just walked everywhere. Our car sat in it's parking space provided for five days without moving! Although, we try to stay at new & different places, each time we come to Seattle, I can't imagine not staying here again. Why change a good thing!?

This is a great apartment, quiet, light-filled and clean, very well located in a residential neighborhood within very easy walking distance of both the Broadway and 15th Avenue shopping and restaurant districts. Bus lines run nearby, and we were able to negotiate our way downtown and to the piers very easily. Nice views from the deck out to the Sound and the Olympia Mountains as well. We really enjoyed our stay!

Harrison Modern was perfect for our 2 month stay. “The Modern” offers off-street parking (a real plus), well furnished and meticulously maintained apartments, well-equipped kitchens, very comfortable beds, and excellent laundry facilities. The Capitol Hill location is awesome. A variety of great restaurants, good grocery stores, the Sunday Public Market, a branch library, and many other services are all within easy walking distance from “The Modern”. Public transportation is also easily accessible. Walk 2 blocks south and catch a bus to the downtown Seattle Center and the Light Rail station, which will take you to the airport or the sports arenas. Or you can walk 3 blocks west to Broadway St. and catch a bus to various medical facilities. We highly recommend the apartments for short or long term stays and we plan to stay again on our next trip to Seattle.

We enjoyed our entire experience at the Harrison Modern. Ian made the rental process very easy and provided us with great information before we left home. The building is in a great location. Capital Hill is filled with shops and restaurants and is an easy walk or bus ride in to the city. The condo is super clean and well stocked. We would go back in a heartbeat and recommend to others.

We loved the location, easy walk to to most things, short walk to major bus lines. Quiet at night for a great night sleep. Loved having a kitchen for breakfast and coffee...late night snacks! we had a roof t top terrace, which was great early am as well as for a view of the mountains and the sunset in the evening. We will be back!

This spacious condo was perfect for our stay. With its large rooms and amenities, we never had that cramped, living-from-a-suitcase feeling that often comes with travel. The Capitol Hill location allowed us to leave our car and walk many places around town (and get some games of tennis in at Cal Anderson Park). The off-street parking made it convenient to drive when we needed to. A great base for our sojourns and a comfortable home to return to. It's worth mentioning what a bonus it is to be renting from Ian. Always welcoming and helpful, his many tips about the offerings of the neighborhood and city keep any traveler from feeling at sea and can lead you to some local delights. We are both former Seattleites and can't imagine a better place for our future visits.
Owner response:Thanks for the review.... I am glad I was able to help you with some local recommendations. Regards Ian

Our expectations were exceeded when we arrived. The photos provided on the web are lovely, but in person the accommodations are much nicer. Our first impressions were how clean it was, and we tried very hard to keep it that way. We stayed in the larger unit with the full deck and grill, which was one of the nicest features and we used it a lot. A view of the water and mountains could be seen from the right side of the deck! The kitchen was well equipped with most anything one would need, including spices, and such, which I'm sure were left overs from previous guests. We even added our own small contributions of a few things we bought but didn't want to take home. Ian has two grocery store discount cards available for guests to use at QFC and Safeway. We only shopped at QFC and it saved us a bunch!!! The complimentary laundry facilities were the BEST! Location is great, easy walk downhill to downtown and the water. Bus lines are also convenient and close by. The 49 on Broadway and Thomas takes you straight into downtown for $2.50 or .75 if one is a senior. Drivers issue a free transfer which could be used for the trip back, valid for 3 hrs. Great deal! Nice way to avoid the up hill climb :-) We left our iphone charger in the unit upon checking out, and Ian was kind enough to help us reunite with one of his! How nice is that?? If our daughter still lives in the Capitol Hill area on our next trip, we will definitely be booking with Harrison Modern again. Vera (end of July to early August 2011)
Owner response:Thanks for the review Vera: We do have a great bus service almost from our doorstep... I'm glad you have a great visit, I am also glad I was able to get you an iPhone charger before you left for Florida. I look forward to seeing you on your next visit. Kind regards Ian

Our stay at Harrison Modern was everything we could hope for--clean,spacious, convenient, fully equipped with everything we needed! This was perfect for our 1 week stay, so much better than a hotel. We even made use of the great deck and grill. The location can't be beat and the walk back up Pike from downtown isn't as bad as it looks...another recommended activity to work off all the eating(so many great restaurants;be sure to check out Ian's list) is rent a kayak from Agua Verde by UW and paddle out to Lake Union to look at boats and sea planes or Lake Washington to see wildlife. Highly recommended! We look forward to our next stay!
Owner response:Thanks for the review. You are right about the walk back from Downtown... it keeps you in shape : ) We look forward to having you back. Regards Ian

It was so easy to get around using your place as the home base, walking, the bus, cabs, and driving a car. We will definitely revisit your place, great location, QFC Market is tops, great shopping and eateries, and friendly environment. The apartment was comfortable, had all the enemities needed, user friendly, and location was super. We thank you again and look forward to our next visit, Karie, Zell, & Ruthie.

I came to Seattle for a geography conference where I gave a lecture about how people develop emotional connections to places. So it was appropriate that we ended staying at Harrison Modern because it really gave a sense of place that you can't get when you stay at a hotel downtown, or a place in the burbs. The location is fantastic, you get a feel for the neighborhood, you meet people who live in there, you go to restaurants that locals go to, and for a short time, at least, you feel like more than just a tourist, you feel incorporated into the fabric of the city. Skip the Space Needle, and walk up the stree to Volunteer Park and climb to the water tower observation deck. Skip the mediocre (but expensive) seafood at Lowell's on Pike Place Market, and get the fried soft shell crab four blocks away at Octo Sushi. Walk up the hill and catch open mic night at the Hopvine Pub, and next door get the best Thai food in town (Coconut chicken is decadent!). Two bus routes pass within blocks (43 picks up on John two blocks away; 10 goes along 15th at the top of the hill). Oh, yeah, the place is nice too! Clean, well kept, and comfortable. I felt right at home. Thanks, Ian!
Owner response:Hi Blake, Thanks for the amazing bio in the building.... What more can I say. but... THANKS.

Our family's stay in Unit 1115 was great! We had a lot of space, the kitchen was well-enough stocked to do some cooking, and the unit was very comfortable and well-maintained. The free wi-fi and use of the laundry room (including detergent, dryer sheets, and an iron) were very helpful. The neighborhood is great! We had our 5-year old and were able to walk into downtown and up to Volunteer Park easily. Cal Anderson Park was so fun and close, too. And right from the corner is a great peek at the Space Needle. There were many bus routes to choose from in Capitol Hill and we were able to use the bus to go EVERYWHERE! So convenient. King County has a trip planner website - look it up to help you get around. It was a great experience. I have already recommended this place to family members visiting in September and I would encourage anyone interested in this area to book at Harrison Modern - it really is a nice place and makes you feel like you are part of the Seattle experience by staying in the neighborhood. I plan to book again for future visits.
Owner response:Hi Tracie, Thanks for the review. I look forward to more of your family in September. Regards Ian

I recently took my parents to Seattle for a vacation, and after considering several options for housing we ran across the "Harrison Modern" although skeptical at first, I must say it was an awesome choice, we enjoyed our stay, it is an awesome neighborhood and everything we needed was within a few blocks. We rented a car but really if your only exploring the city it is not neccessary, bus stops within blocks of the apartment would get you anywhere you needed to go, We enjoyed the stay very much and having a nice place to call home for the week made it even better! We will definelty be back!

We had the lovely opportunity to stay in unit 1117 (the penthouse)for two weeks in the middle of October. We felt right at home. Unit was very clean, everything was in good working order. We cooked several meals during our stay and even did some baking. The kitchen was well equipped and user friendly. We enjoyed several sunsets from the living room and deck. Even using the gas BBQ on a few occasions. Very convient to several markets, Trader Joe's, Farmer's Market on Sundays, and of course wonderful shops and restaurants. Buses close by (a bit tricky to get used to)that can take you anywhere you want to go. We Loved the area as well and would definately stay again. Thank you Ian

We had the pleasure of staying at the Harrison Modern the third weekend of July,2009. The apartment itself was lovely AND immaculate. (no worries about bedbugs here!) The location was close to groceries, restaurants and the like, and we walked back and forth to the Pike Place Market. It was hot when we were there, none the less the trek was walkable. There are some fun places along the way and as always, Seattle is beautiful. I would indeed stay here again. In the future with all the climate changes, air conditioning would be an added plus to make this place completely perfect.

Fourth summer coming to Seattle, and this place was the BEST. The apt. was delightful, with eyepleasing design and was equally comfortable. Enjoyed cooking in the well equipted kitchen and reading on all four couches. The apt. was located two blocks from my son's apt.{they wanted to move in with me] We often walked to grocery stores, wine shops, parks, and many different dining spots. However, our favorite place was the DECK, to drink, to cook and eat, and to just hang out. Thanks again for sharing your place with me. HOPE TO COME AGAIN!
Owner response:This wonderful comment is for my apartment (1117) which I rent out on occations. Thanks Jo Ann

Our apartment at the Harrison Modern was exactly as described and pictured on the website. The location was great--mostly residential, but within a block or two in several directions of many really good restaurants of various ethnicities and types, bars, coffee shops, interesting little stores, and some beautiful neighborhoods and parks. At least a couple of grocery stores too. My husband and I stayed in the upstairs apartment for 8 nights, and each night but one we walked to a different restaurant! There are so many nice parts of Seattle, but I would definitely choose this interesting area, and this apartment, as our home base again. The apartment is thoughtfully laid out, with comfy couches and beds (queen size and a day bed), shiny hard wood floors, a big TV, nice track lighting and pleasant decor...a tasteful combo of retro and Ikea:-) The laundry room is just downstairs, and we also opted to pay the moderate extra charge for parking, which was right in front of our door. The apartment was spotlessly clean, there was always hot water--really, no glitches at all. I had never before rented an apartment for a vacation, and was a little wary of doing so sight unseen, but I really liked the way Ian sounded in his emails and on the phone, so I felt comfortable taking the plunge. I'm so glad I did! Mary and Joe, Ann Arbor MI

We had lots of plans, so I did research how many miles to go to each place. Unbelievable, everything is so close to this apartment! That is because the apartment really have a good spot to go everywhere. They have a beautiful neighborhood, nice atmosphere inside the apartment, fully equipped so I cooked dinner for my group, and the bed + couch totally the best! My husband don't wanna wake up, just because it's really comfy! The management take care everything so fast, clean, and lovely! They treat us like a friends and give us the best advice for places around the town! I highly recommend this apartment, and I will go back to stay in Harrison Modern again :) Thank you!

We stayed in the upstairs apartment and have no complaints. There's a lot of great stuff nearby, but the building itself is in a pleasant residential area that made for a better home base than the heart of downtown, and the size and amenities of the apartment allowed us to avoid the cabin fever that inevitably comes with a hotel room.
