Year Purchased: 2006
People ask me "why did you move to South Dakota?" I tell them that it's because I love it here. (I'm a life time resident of California) After renovating and decorating my vacation rental, I decided to move on to bigger things. Now most of my time is consumed with the renovating of a house built in 1917. It's my passion to bring it back to it's former glory. My warning to you would be travelers to this area is, "be careful, you might just decide to stay"
Why the Owner Chose Rapid City
I came out to visit a friend in Rapid City with absolutely no intention of moving here.. After falling in love with the area, I decided to by this house as a part time residence, and enjoyed renovating and decorating it. In time I decided to sell my home in California and bought my current residence in which I'm renovating. I then made this house available as a vacation rental so others could enjoy it as much as I did.

The owner was very accommodating. Friendly and helpful. The house was perfect for our trip. Couldn't beat the location. Will stay again and recommend to others coming to the area.

I stayed here with my husband, mother, and two young boys over the holiday weekend. It was a convenient drive to all attractions. The owner was very responsive and the home was comfortable and well decorated. The bathroom was beautiful! We were only there to sleep as there was much to do, but it was nice to be able to sit down for breakfast together and make coffee before we headed out.
Recommended for:Sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers.
No Maintenance to the outside during winter months and credit card charges after departure

Home owner did not clear 3 inch thick ice from sidewalks or driveway before our party arrived in January 2011. Very dangerous environment when loading and unloading. Home owner did not clear sidewalks and or driveway for our full 10 day stay. After departure home owner tried to charged us an extra fee for parking up close to the home, which was necessary to insure our safety. If you do rent from this home owner always be leery of unnecessary addtional charges to credit card after departure.
Owner response:This party incurred additional charges partly due to the fact that they parked on my lawn and tore it up. When asked to more it, he responded that he thought it was part of the drive way. To get into my yard required going driving across the sidewalk and over an embankment. The sidewalks WERE shoveled the day of their arrival. The other charge was becuase they left dirty dishes & trash through out the house & yard. I don't have cleaning charges, but have a disclaimer in the Rental Agreement that states "if left excessively dirty a charge would be applied." I did charge them for one hour. This is the first time I had to impliment this. As far as the ice, they were charged less due to the winter stay, which implies harsh weather in South Dakota. Ice Melt was left for their use. The weather was -degrees during most of their stay, I didn't even leave my house for most of that time. No phone call was made to me about any problems they may have been having. Winter stays are unusual, I don't have winter maintance in place, but would have made arrangments had I been contacted about a problem. There was a general disregard for my house and property.

I recently stay here with my family. We had a great time, there is so much to see. At the end of the day it was so nice to have an actual house, not hotel to come back to. We were able to cook, and unwind in the whorl pool bath. I would definately stay here again.

We enjoyed out stay very much. The house is nicely decorated and is supplied with everything we needed from kitchen supplies to bedding. We found it to be in a convenient location. The owner was quite friendly and helpful.

Each and every time I check in guests, their first comment is how lovely the place is. I have had nothing but positive feedback. I had a note pad on the desk that many guests wrote in as they left, stating the great time they had, and how convenient the location is. They thanked me for all the amenities. Many said that they would be back.
