| This secluded estate home, built in 2004, sits on 37 private acres in the heart of Colorado summer and winter activities, centrally located between Buena Vista and Salida. It will accommodate up to 8 people.
It has magnificent views of the Collegiate Peaks, the Chalk Cliffs, the Buffalo Peaks, and the Arkansas River valley. Mount Princeton Hot Springs offers soaking pools, restaurant, and other resort amenities, only 5 miles away. The property provides direct access to Bureau of Land Management and National Forest land, leading to the Colorado Trail and almost unlimited hiking, biking, and climbing opportunities. The Arkansas River, which offers world-class rafting and fly fishing, makes its way through the valley about 4 miles from the house, with many outfitters and guides in the area.
The ghost town of St. Elmo is a short drive to the west, and is the starting point for several 4 WD, ATV, and snowmobiling trails. Mountain biking enthusiasts will find many trails available, including the well-known Monarch Crest trail near Salida. Horseback riding stables are located about 5 miles from the house.
Cross-country skiing and snowshoeing can be done right out your back door in the wintertime, with dedicated trails nearby. Monarch Ski Resort is about 35 minutes away, with some of the best snowcat skiing in the state, and a gondola running in the summer.
The house offers 4 bedrooms, and will sleep up to 8 comfortably. Upstairs is the Master Bedroom suite (the Blue Room), with a queen bed, jetted tub, double shower with steam feature, two private balconies and vaulted ceiling. There is no more beautiful place to sleep on a full-moon night than this room! Also upstairs is the Cowboy Room (a.k.a. the Brown Room), which offers a deluxe Queen-size fold-out sofa and private half-bath. Downstairs is a second master suite (the Red Room) with Queen bed and its own conservatory overlooking the fenced garden. It shares a luxurious full bath with the adjoining Green Room, which has a Twin-sized Daybed with a pull-out trundle, perfect for the little ones, or appropriate for two additional adults. The magnificent Great Room includes dining area large enough for all the guests, sitting area with comfortable sofa and chair in front of the stone gas-burning fireplace and wide-screen TV, and fully equipped open kitchen with aspen cabinets and granite countertops.
You can sit comfortably on the front porch or the back deck, and enjoy the views of Mount Antero, Mount Princeton, and the stunning Chalk Cliffs. Watch the sunrise "crown the mountains king," or the sun setting across the Continental Divide. Wildlife viewing opportunities may include herds of Elk, Mule Deer, or Pronghorn Antelope. We've also seen Coyotes, Jackrabbits, Cottontails, and a variety of bird life, including Golden Eagles, Rough-legged Hawks, American Kestrels, Red-Shafted Flickers, Mountain Bluebirds, Horned Larks, Black-billed Magpies, Western Kingbirds, and Western Meadowlarks.
