This secluded estate home, built in 2004, sits on 37 private acres in the heart of Colorado summer and winter activities, centrally located between Buena Vista and Salida. It will accommodate up to 8 people.
It has magnificent views of the Collegiate Peaks, the Chalk Cliffs, the Buffalo Peaks, and the Arkansas River valley. Mount Princeton Hot Springs offers soaking pools, restaurant, and other resort amenities, only 5 miles away. The property provides direct access to Bureau of Land Management and National Forest land, leading to the Colorado Trail and almost unlimited hiking, biking, and climbing opportunities. The Arkansas River, which offers world-class rafting and fly fishing, makes its way through the valley about 4 miles from the house, with many outfitters and guides in the area.
The ghost town of St. Elmo is a short drive to the west, and is the starting point for several 4 WD, ATV, and snowmobiling trails. Mountain biking enthusiasts will find many trails available, including the well-known Monarch Crest trail near Salida. Horseback riding stables are located about 5 miles from the house.
Cross-country skiing and snowshoeing can be done right out your back door in the wintertime, with dedicated trails nearby. Monarch Ski Resort is about 35 minutes away, with some of the best snowcat skiing in the state, and a gondola running in the summer.
The house offers 4 bedrooms, and will sleep up to 8 comfortably. Upstairs is the Master Bedroom suite (the Blue Room), with a queen bed, jetted tub, double shower with steam feature, two private balconies and vaulted ceiling. There is no more beautiful place to sleep on a full-moon night than this room! Also upstairs is the Cowboy Room (a.k.a. the Brown Room), which offers a deluxe Queen-size fold-out sofa and private half-bath. Downstairs is a second master suite (the Red Room) with Queen bed and its own conservatory overlooking the fenced garden. It shares a luxurious full bath with the adjoining Green Room, which has a Twin-sized Daybed with a pull-out trundle, perfect for the little ones, or appropriate for two additional adults. The magnificent Great Room includes dining area large enough for all the guests, sitting area with comfortable sofa and chair in front of the stone gas-burning fireplace and wide-screen TV, and fully equipped open kitchen with aspen cabinets and granite countertops.
You can sit comfortably on the front porch or the back deck, and enjoy the views of Mount Antero, Mount Princeton, and the stunning Chalk Cliffs. Watch the sunrise "crown the mountains king," or the sun setting across the Continental Divide. Wildlife viewing opportunities may include herds of Elk, Mule Deer, or Pronghorn Antelope. We've also seen Coyotes, Jackrabbits, Cottontails, and a variety of bird life, including Golden Eagles, Rough-legged Hawks, American Kestrels, Red-Shafted Flickers, Mountain Bluebirds, Horned Larks, Black-billed Magpies, Western Kingbirds, and Western Meadowlarks. Bring your binoculars or spotting scope!

Imagine driving through the beautiful Rocky Mountains to a house in the middle of 100 acres with breathtaking views, wildlife just grazing right outside your door, and the peace and solitude you’ve always dreamed of. That’s what you’ll discover when you stay at Journey’s End.
We arrived at Journey’s End just in time to catch an amazing sunset cascading off the surrounding mountains. It was truly a sight to see! We knew right away that our journey had only begun. This was our 3rd annual hunting trip to Buena Vista, Colorado. The Papa Bears went out hunting while the Mama Bears stayed back with the cubs. The house was very spacious and fit both our families very comfortably. The stunning kitchen had absolutely everything we needed. The cubs spent most of their time sitting at the bar stools coloring pictures. Every morning, the sunlight gleaming through the large open windows heated the house and every evening, we loved sitting around the large gas fireplace to reminisce about the day’s adventures. At night, we watched movies from the large video library. Then, we fell asleep to the moonlight shining over the brilliant white snow and dreamed our vacation would never end.
In addition to the Papa Bears shooting an elk, the highlight to our trip was sledding down the hill nearby the house. The cubs had a blast! If you prefer to get away for the day, Mt. Princeton Hot Springs is conveniently within driving distance. We spent an entire day relaxing in the soothing thermal waters. Even if you visit during the summer, there’s so much to do and see outside that you’ll never get bored. Biking, fishing, hiking and skiing are a few of the other seasonal adventures to be enjoyed.
The property manager went above and beyond to ensure a comfortable stay. This will be a trip that we will never forget. Journey’s End really is not an end at all, but a beginning to some wonderful memories!
