Lacking only a way to play our music and weren't able to dial out on land-line phone. Wifi and TV worked very well. Very attentive and helpful owner and lots of good information available. We especially appreciated the restaurant recommendations. We'll definitely try to get back there soon.

Lovely apartment, stunning views

We spent a lovely week in this apartment in Cassis in August 2011. The views from the balcony over the town and harbour are magnificent. The bedrooms are at the back and don't get the sun so much during the day so they stay nice and cool. The apartment is spacious and well-equipped and the pool is clean and inviting. Roland was helpful and always answered my emails promptly. We enjoyed a boat trip to the Calanques and ate at two restaurants in Cassis which were recommended, the Marco Polo (by the harbour, good fixed-price menus) and Pizzeria La Fragnole, Rue Pasteur (informal, tables in the street, good pizzas and grilled fish, no credit cards). You can buy fresh bread for breakfast from the shop just past the petrol station. There is a good provencal market in Cassis on Wednesdays and Fridays and a craft market most evenings in summer. We didn't use the car much at all as you can walk down into the town in about 10 minutes.

Wonderful Apartment in Cassis

My husband and I rented this lovely apartment in Cassis for the first week of August. After a 15 hour drive from Frankfurt, we couldn't have found a more perfect place to relax. The apartment itself is spacious and fully equipped, and has an absolutely spectacular ocean view. We were delighted to find a chilled bottle of local wine and mineral water in the fridge, and Roland followed up with a phone call to make sure that everything was in order. If you can drag yourself away from the terrace, you can relax at the swimming pool, or walk down to the village for a bite to eat. The village is crowded and lively. Don't miss the market on Wednesday and Friday. Cassis is the perfect home base to explore Provence. Roland has all sorts of up-to-date literature, maps etc available for your perusal. There are many options for day trips, but since we have explored extensively on previous holidays, our choice on this vacation was to stay put in Cassis. We barely used our rental car, and you can certainly get by without a car at all. We hope to return next year. Thanks Roland.

we rented (myself & 3 ladies) this properity for 4 weeks and it couldn't have been better... Very spacious, good amenities, nice furnishing and oh yes.... the view. spectacular! town, sea, cape cannele, port. The owner was very helpful and so helpful to English speaking clients.. recommends for resturants, shopping, hikes, taxis and site seeing all very helpful. The town itself is very unspoiled by tourists. definitely a 5 star experience. Jodi Birney

Magical Cassis!!!!

My husband and I had initially booked a two week stay at this Cassis rental, but after reading the reviews--we decided to go for a third week. The stay was absolutely marvelous. When we entered the condo and walked into the front room I think we both took simultaneous gasps as we caught sight of the view!! The pictures on this website do not do it justice. It is breathtaking. The apartment was very clean and well maintained. The couple who oversee the property were delightful and equally entertaining. They were wonderful to us making sure our taxi delivered us in safely and timely back to the airport, in addition to warmly greeting us with their songlike "Bonjour." . Roland was wonderful in making sure all our needs were met. He phoned us to make sure everything was as stated. Upon arriving we were delighted to find a cool water and chilled wine waiting for us . We had such a wonderful time and I truly believe god created Heaven and then Cassis!!! I found the people in town warm and welcoming and managed to tolerate my attempts to speak with them. One restaurant Le Bonapart --we found the owner particurly enchanting and the food wonderful!! Make sure not to miss the market on Wednesday and Friday!! The food selection is incredible. The fruits were truly the best I have ever tasted. It was an adventure going to this market. I must also say the olives and anchovies are outstanding as well. We experimented with a different cheese that we were not familar with each time we returned from the market. We did have a car for 12 days while we were is Cassis, so we were able to travel in the area as well. We visited Aix-en Provence, Montpeiller, La Ciotat, the road to Crete (make sure you don't have a fear of heights)!!! In Cassis, we took a boat tour of Les Calanques---not to be missed, visited the beach many days, visited two Vineyards--our favorite was Fontcruese!!! I highly recommend taking a Kyack tour of the calanques, and most importantly became French!! We are truly greatful for this wonderful time we were able to spend in a gorgeous environment.

My wife and I were hoping to visit France in September 2012 with our son and daughter-in-law. After explaining our intentions to Roland, he was kind enough to allow us to book his apartment more than a year ahead. Unfortunately, our kids changed jobs, and my wife had a second knee replacement. I called Roland and informed him we would now be unable to lease his unit and within five days of that phone call, I received a check from him which reflected the total amount of our initial deposit. We are very sorry we will be unable to rent his beautiful apartment with its glorious views of Cassis.

This is an attractive and very spacious apartment with a spectacular view of the Cassis harbor. It was exactly as described and pictured. Our whole family -- 5 adults-- stayed here for a week and could not have been happier. Cassis is a beautiful place and a great home base for exploring Provence. Roland provides complete instructions on how to use everything and lots of information about the locale. I would highly recommend this apartment to anyone.

Vacation in Cassis

We stayed in Roland's apartment in Cassis for one week and enjoyed every minute of our vacation. The apartment was perfect, even more beautiful than the pictures we had viewed. It was neat, clean, and spacious. Roland was incredibly helpful, encouraging and answering questions both before and during the trip. The concierge was extremely friendly and helpful also. The location of the apartment worked out perfectly. The town of Cassis was a close walk, important for us because we did not rent a car. We often walked to town more than once per day - shopping, hiking, dinner out, etc. We would recommend the hikes in the Calanques (a must!), the boat trip to view the Calanques, and Chez Marcel's restaurant (also a must!). Our only regret was leaving. We highly recommend this property and location.

Wow! What a view!

If you are planning a trip to the south of France, and you're interested in staying in the Cassis area, you MUST stay at this apartment. My husband and I just checked out of Roland's apartment, and it was bittersweet. We hated leaving Cassis and this apartment, but we are now headed home after a month in France. The view to the fishing village of Cassis is spectacular from this apartment. And, the apartment itself is awesome....clean, comfortable and, again, that view...oh my!! Roland and his wife have, with their little homey touches, made this apartment a joy to come home to, after a day of sightseeing. We will always remember our trip to the south of France, and this apartment made it all possible!

Magnificent view of the harbor town of Cassis! The apartment was beautifully decorated and very well furnished. March in Cassis

We spent a week in the latter part of March at this wonderful apartment overlooking the bay in Cassis. It fit 5 adults very comfortably and would be great for 4 adults and two children. The view from the balcony was so wonderful some days we hated to leave. The apartment is very well equipped. Had we wanted to do much cooking it would have been very easy to do so, but most nights we choose to walk down to town to enjoy one of the many restaurants. The only thing we could not find was a vase to hold the beautiful flowers we bought at the market but empty wine bottles did the trick. The unit was very clean, well maintained and for the most part beautifully equipped. More closets or dressers for clothing storage in the rooms would have been nice but there is a large closet in the hallway which we could use for items that needed to be hung. The fairly steep walk down to the town is quite quick and easy although the walk back, after lots of wine and good food, was a bit strenuous. It helped us wear off our dinner but someone with limited mobility or poor fitness could not manage the walk back. (This is the price you pay for the great view) and taxis are hard to come by in the town. Roland, the owner of the apartment is extremely helpful and has a book in the apartment with all sorts of suggestions and helpful hints. He is very anxious to make sure everything about your stay there is a wonderful as possible. For the most part the weather in March, although perhaps not warm enough for the pool, was lovely. Perfect touring weather. You can hike or take a boat ride to the Calanques (beautiful bays extending into the rocky coastline)- well worth it and can tour a number of vineyards. Marseille is just a 30 minute train ride away and much of Provence and the Cote d'Azure is within daytrip distance. However, as much as we intended to do more travelling, we decided to spend a couple of days in or around Cassis enjoying the town and relaxing. There are lots of sidewalk cafes around the port and enough shopping to keep you busy for an afternoon. The market is also worthwhile to attend. The listing description of the property was accurate. We would definitely recommend this apartment and the town of Cassis as a place to spend a wonderful vacation.

We enjoyed our stay at Roland's condo very much. The pictures very accurately depict the charming port town of Cassis and the condo itself which is very spacious and comfortable. The location is excellent with a breathtaking view overlooking the harbor and the town. Roland's instructions throughout the home are concise and easy to follow on everything from the washing machine to accessing the internet on our laptop. I would highly recommend this rental to anyone looking for a safe, secure experience in a quaint coastal town in the Provence Region of France. Thank you, Roland. This apartment is perfect for two couples, with "suites" at each end separated by living areas. We loved cooking, shopping locally at Terroir et Maree just up the road, walking to Cassis centre (the steep path guarantees strengthened calves within one week); hiking in the Calanques and enjoying the amazing views. We've rented self-catering apartments previously in France and this was by far the best -comfortable beds, nice linens, wireless access, friendly neighbors. The owner provides thorough information with instructions from start to finish. As an added bonus, we were able to stay on a few days at a reasonable rate. Cassis is a beautiful town on the sea - not to be missed!

Thank you Roland for letting us use your wonderful apartment. We have been to Cassis numerous times, but this was by far the best. The view from the wide balcony is breathtaking, both day and night. While we were there the weather was sunny but very windy and cool. Even though we could not sit on the balcony, the view from the wide window and the comfort of the apartment more than made up for this shortcoming of nature. And thank you Roland for the very detailed instructions starting with getting here to the apartment itself. When you go out for dinner, note that parking in Cassis is a problem, day and night. Either walk or take a taxi, unless you are very patient or just lucky. There are various taxi services and they are all reliable adn helpful We were also very impressed by the helpfullness and friendliness of the "guardien" and his wife. My wife had left her cane in the limo taking us to the airport in London, where we spent a week before leaving for Cassis. I phoned the driver and asked him to send it to us, but because of strikes and airport delays we did not get it before leaving for Paris. The "guardien" sent it on to us in Paris! We will most definitely come back next year, probably earlier so that we can enjoy the full benefit of that great balcony.

We loved the view and enjoyed the walk into town each day, although without a car, it was a lot to carry the groceries up the hill. Besides the fact that this was a dream place for vacation, you will find in Mr. Autran the most friendly, engaged and reliable landlord ever. He followe dup with us many times before the start of the rent to ensure things were OK, he went above and beyond when we had a misunderstandign on dates to ensure we would still be able to enjoy our planned vacation. Thank you, Roland. Four family generations stayed here for a week (myself, my younger brother, my father and my son) and found this apartment to be very comfortable and suitable for us. The concierge and neighbours in the building will make sure you have everything you need for a pleasant stay (concierge even helped us with arrangements for return to Marseille). Breakfasts and dinners in the balcony overlooking Cassis and the sea, beautiful weather, great food and wine, beautiful walks in the town and nearby calanques, several beaches to spend time with the family. What else? I am sure we will return and rent Mr Autran's apartment again.

The best spot on the mediterranean coast! Looking for a clean, quiet, spacious, well-equipped and superbly located condo? This is it! After renting condos for the last 20 years, this Caravelle in Cassis is top of our list. The view from the terrace overlooking the Cassis harbour is memorable. The concierge is always available with a smile. Just remember, while walking down to the harbour, that you will have to come back up!! Unless you decide to take a taxi? Enjoy! Cassis Vacation

Our family of 5 (3 adults and 2 teens) recently stayed at Roland Autran's apartment and we found it to be very spacious, clean, and comfortable. The balcony was very large and had the most wonderful view of Cassis and the harbor! The walk down into town was pleasant and picturesque, however, walking back up was a bit of exercise. We would recommend to future guests that are not prepared for a strenuous walk involving steps might consider renting a car to zip into town. We also recommend experiencing "market day" which is held in the town center on Wednesdays and Fridays. We ate at several restuarants and cafes and all were excellent. The people of Cassis were friendly and helpful. It was always a pleasure returning to Roland's peaceful, quiet apartment after a day or evening in town. Roland was very helpful and quick to answer any questions we had. The apartment is perfect for a family or a group of friends. Simply eating dinner (or breakfast) on the balcony was a special treat. We would definitely rent from Roland again!!

Beautiful Cassis

My wife and I enjoyed seven glorious days in June at Roland's delightful apartment. The rooms were spacious and the sofa and 2 easy chairs were beyond comfortable. The beds were extremely comfortable and the linens very nice. I cannot begin to explain the magnificant views of the Mediterrean and the town of Cassis from the living room and huge balcony. We would definitely recommend this property!!!

June 2010 in Cassis

Overall this was a magnificent location in Cassis, with unrivaled views from the terrace. The Owner and the Concierge were extremely accommodating and responsive to us as their guests. Spacious, well appointed, windows on both sides provides great ventilation throughout the apartment. The 3 bedrooms and 2.5 baths are well situated in the apartment, very well maintained. The town itself is a seaside delight, great restaurants that suit any budget, people watching at the many harbor cafes and the twice weekly outdoor food markets are not to be missed. We would absolutely stay here again!

The wall of windows opening to the wide sweep of balcony, with views out across the rooftops of Cassis to the azure waters of the Mediterranean... The constant and pleasant breezes... The outdoor table where we ate breakfast, lunch and dinner from the "best table in all of Cassis"... The incredible sunsets against the darkening hills... The cooling waters of the immaculate pool... The lovely gardens on the terraces of the apartments below... We never wanted to leave the condo. But we did walk into town every day, because Cassis is marvelous too. I loved the Cassis market. We both enjoyed the boatride to the Calanques. But it was even a delight just to buy an ice cream and sit on a bench watching all the people go by, then stop at the bakery for our pastries and baguette. We arrived from Barcelona by train (via Montpelier and Marseilles), and one week later left by train for Paris (only 3 hours by TGV from Marseilles). The tiny Cassis station has a charming restaurant across from the entrance, where we had lunch at an outdoor table while waiting for our train. We had considered renting a car, but never really felt a need for one. We also had considered taking the train to Avignon or Arles for the day. But we were so happy staying where we were, we never got around to it. Our week here was the highlight of a wonderful trip. Thank you, Roland!

After a week of relaxing in Cassis at this beautiful property, it was hard to come home. Breakfast and dinner in, and lunches out were a great way to enjoy the whole adventure. We are experienced VRBO'ers and this was one of the finest at which we have stayed. We were two couples, and had ample room and comfort. Quiet, clean, beautiful have been noted by others and we agree. Even though only one of our group was proficient in French, the rest of us were absolutely comfortable and felt welcomed everywhere we went in Cassis. We recommend this location and Roland without hesitation.

We have just returned from a 3-week vacation in France, staying one week in Cassis, one in Avignon, and one in Paris. Our week in Cassis at Roland's apartment was the greatest part of our trip!! The pictures on this website are wonderful, but they don't do it justice. Of course, Cassis is beautiful, but the apartment itself is also fabulous! We had long, luxurious mornings on the balcony! Roland is a man after my own heart with his very detailed book introducing you to the apartment and all its functions upon arrival - I love detail!! It was truly a welcomed human touch that Roland continues to maintain the apartment with original artwork and fine dining pieces, which denotes a feeling of trust and comfort that we have not experienced in any other rentals. We would have had a wonderful vacation even if we had never left the apartment. However, we did leave the apartment... and we used all of Roland's recommendations! The walk to and from town was perfect for us because it left us with a feeling that we had exerted ourselves just enough to more enjoy all the great foods. Marcel does truly serve the greatest couscous EVER! The people spoke broken english at the same rate that I spoke broken french, which made for a wonderful experience. I will treasure my time there! If I ever return to Cassis, I would definitely want to stay in that same wonderful location!! The only two negative statements that I could make are truly minuscule comments. First, the beds are harder than I am generally accustomed, but that only led to more yoga poses on the balcony! Plus, the black-out window shades are so fabulous that I slept in every single morning, and by far excluded any negative effects of hard beds. I am currently in the process of adapting my own home bedroom to such black-out levels! The second statement derives from a little mishap that occurred during our stay. The one item that isn't mentioned in the introductory book from Roland is a statement reminding guests that there is no latch on the sliding glass door from the outside - you can guess where this is heading. So, if you happen to close the door, while say having dinner at sunset on the balcony, well you then have to be saved by the wonderful Brigitte! HA! She has a fabulous sense of humor, thank goodness! I conclude my review now (only because I am running out of space). We had a wonderful vacation in Cassis. Roland is easy and pleasant to work with, and has a rare trust of humanity that I appreciate! Fabulous experience in Cassis

We spent a week at this condominium, and it was a perfect week. The condo is very tastefully decorated with a wonderful deck and a view of the Cassis harbor and the mountainsides, wonderful. The listing was very accurate in terms of its initial description, the property was very clean and well maintained, and the owner is just the best, we love him. I would strongly recommend this property to anyone who wants to enjoy the French Riviera and only 3 hours from Monte Carlo, don't miss it.

What a good time!!!

We returned last night from a wonderful week in your lovely apartment. Thank you so much for allowing us, strangers, into your beautiful home. We appreciate that this was not a “rental” property but someone’s home that was being rented. There is a big difference. The apartment worked perfectly. We were hardly home but when we did return, it was warm and inviting. And the Limoges – how gorgeous – we used it for our only dinner at home – carefully washed everything by hand – the table looked gorgeous with beautiful flowers that we bought in the market. I will send you a picture after I download. Brigette & Alain are lovely warm people – we met them each morning as we left the apartment. We brought them our almost full bottles of Limoncello & Baume de Venise and the flowers that were still in beautiful bloom before we left. We were thanked with warm hugs. You are very lucky to have such special people looking after the property. By the way, it was absolutely spotless when we arrived. We were disappointed not to have had a chance to meet you in person but certainly understand family commitments. Our travelling companions also spent some time in Montelimar visiting the parents of their future son-in-law. Thank you for the lovely bottle of Cassis wine – we opened it as soon as we arrived!!!! We brought back the key which I will send back to you this week. We hope to return in the future and will keep you in mind if we do so. Also, we will recommend your apartment to anyone that is travelling in the area. Please feel free to give our name to anyone who wants additional information. We stayed in this pleasant flat in April. Too chilly to sit outside, unfortunately, but we could still enjoy the view from the very comfortable sitting-room (new red leather reclining 3-piece suite: superb!) The flat is large and well laid out, with the living area overlooking Cassis and the bedrooms and kitchen at the back of the building - no view but quiet. For a family of 5, there was everything we needed ; the kitchen is functional and well-equipped (lots of little notes made using the appliances easy) ; the shower-room leads off the main bedroom ; the renovated bathroom serves the two other rooms. Internet access and local-calls telephone a welcome bonus. Cassis is a steep quick walk downhill (there is apparently a free bus service in the summer which would avoid the strenuous walk back). There's a lovely market, well worth going to, on Wednesday and Friday mornings, in the town centre. Take the time to wander round the narrow streets in the old town or to sit out on the port and watch the world go by. Plenty of restaurants to choose from. The flats are set back from the main road to Toulon, so access to the other coastal resorts (la Ciotat, Bandol...) and the spectacular Cap Canaille or, in the other direction, to Aubagne and Marseille, is easy. There is a huge shopping complex in Aubagne if you find the shopping in Cassis a bit limited. Roland was very helpful and efficient : he answered our emails promptly. The whole rental process was smooth and worry-free (though we did have a panicky moment when we couldn't open the door to the block of flats: the lock is a bit fiddly!) All in all, this is a well-maintained, comfortable flat, a good base from which to explore the area, and we were very happy with our week's holiday here." We loved the new living-room suite, which of course isn't in the photos. Could do with a couple of small tables on which to place our drinks, though (otherwise we have to leave the reclining position, not fun at all!) All the best Susan

Although we had to cancel our reservation, we were very pleased with the registration process. Mr. Autran is very professional, prompt and well-organized. We found it easy to get information, receive and sign the contract, and submit our deposit. Upon making a change in our plans, Mr. Autran promptly returned our deposit check as stated in the rental contract. We are hopeful to be able to lease Mr. Autran's property at another time.

We stayed just ahead of Christmas when Cassis was exceptionally (and unusually!) cold, but the apartment was beautifully warm. There are three good-sized, comfortable bedrooms and a large sitting room with large balcony. Full length windows show off the fantastic view over the town of Cassis and out to sea, with the Cap Canaille and the harbour clearly visible. Superb - even in winter, sitting inside with a glass of something, it was a pleasure just to gaze out at the view. The property was spotlessly clean and is well-equiped. Cassis in winter is quieter than summer and some of the restaurants are closed but it is still a busy little place with lots of life. The wonderful Friday market takes place as usual and, right in the middle of all the stalls, a skating rink had been set up outside the Mairie. And there was even snow - not the real stuff but a whole roundabout on the way into Cassis had been decorated with faux snow and a Christmas tree! The property owner had provided excellent information about the apartment and about Cassis, etc, before hand. Everything was very efficient both before and after our visit. I would be happy to recommend the property. And, having previously visited Cassis in spring and summer, I can now confirm it is a great all-year-round destination!

Amazing view

The view from the apartment was absolutely stunning, the only cost being the walk back up the hill from town - that didn't stop us walking into town several times each day though (especially to go to the great local bakeries). The other plus to staying part way up the hill was the shorter walk to the local rail station for trips to nearby towns. The organization from the owner was excellent with attention to detail - he provided an information pack with everything we needed to know to arrive at and to access the apartment. On learning that we planned to travel to Cassis from Marseille airport on public transport he emailed helpful directions on the shuttle bus between the airport and train station. It was also great to have helpful little instructions throughout the apartment and local maps and tourist information available. The owner phoned the first night to check that everything was OK and had also left a nice bottle of wine in the fridge to welcome us. The concierges were very friendly and helpful too (although do not speak much English).

This apartment is spotless and very well laid out. It is very nicely furnished, with good comfortable beds. The pool is bigger than it looks in the photos, very clean, and has a ledge in the shade on the side to rest from the sun. There is slight noise from the highway below, but the predominant sound is that of the cicadas. Cassis is a lovely, very popular town and the apartment is a very convenient 7 minute walk away. I should add that the concierge ("gardiene" in French, I believe)Mme Fougeray, was extremely kind and helpful, and helped make our stay a very pleasant one. -Gillian Parson, Vancouver Canada

For the second time we stayed at the beautiful apartement of Roland Autran in Cassis It is very comfortable and you really have a splendid view at cassis and it's harbour ; bring your binoculars and you will keep looking !! Besides that Cassis is a very charming place where you can do a lot of spectacular things, you can visit the calanques as a regular tourist by boat, but it is much more fun to go there on foot, hiking through a marvellous nature or go by a (rented) kayak if you are not afraid to get wet ! At the harbor you will find lots of good restaurants where you can eat very good at reasonable prices in a very romantic ambiance. Cassis is a place to come again ... and again ...
