Blue Lotus Cottage is a special plantation style beach cottage, custom built in 2005, and only one short block back
from the ocean with a wide and direct ocean view.
A short walk (100+ steps) takes you to a small sandy beach area. Kekaha is an old plantation town, away from the crowds and major resorts, situated at the base of the Waimea Canyon. You will definitely get the island experience in this people friendly town, with Hawaiian neighbors. Kick back on the shaded ocean view lanai, in comfy lounge chairs, and enjoy the ocean breeze and look for whales. Enjoy the best sunsets the island has to offer, and get the least amount of rain and humidity on your vacation. With less than 15 inches of rain a year, this is the place to be when the rain is falling on other parts of the island.
The open floor plan incorporates the kitchen, great room, and dining area....all with a great ocean view. Walls of windows capture the trade winds, keeping the cottage comfortable.
The kitchen has a large island with stools and granite countertops. The kitchen is fully equipped with newer appliances, including a glass top range, fridge, dishwasher, oven, and microwave. Cooking meals at home is a pleasure. Every kitchen small appliance is here from coffee grinder to rice cooker, food processor, and a blender to make that island drink.
Beautifully furnished with wicker, sea grass, teak wood, island decor and art. Maple wood floors and fans in every room. A master bedroom with it's own bath, new King bedroom furniture and mattress. There is also a second TV in the master bedroom. The second bedroom has NOVA MEMORY FOAM KING BED, and lots of soft pillows for added comfort. This room can also be made into a twin room upon request. There is a trundle bed in the 3rd bedroom, also with memory foam. All of the linens are new 500 ct. cotton sateen, and the towels are thick and thirsty. The personality and charm of this cottage will make your vacation one of the best experiences ever.
Kekaha Beach Park, about 1 mile away, offes lifeguard safety. Salt Pond Beach Park, about 15 minutes away, is a perfect crescent shaped beach park, which is ideal for small children with small waves. Polihale State Beach is for the adventurous beach goer, looking for that wild dune backed beach. After a bumpy 5 mile dirt road, you are rewarded with a secluded beach that is, to many, the most beautiful on the island.
At the base of the Waimea Canyon, you have direct access to fantastic scenery, and miles of hiking opportunities. It is often been called the 'Grand Canyon of the Pacific'.
Hanapepe Art Night, every Friday night, is for the art lover and only 10 minutes away. It's restored galleries have many art treasures for viewing and purchase.
Waimea, only two miles away, has two larger grocery stores, restaurants, and a movie theater. Enjoy live local music at the Grove Cafe, in the Aston Plantation Cottage Resort, only minutes away. Don't miss the fresh shrimp from the nearby Sunrise Shrimp Farm. Within minutes, there are several restaurants for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. For a special night out, the Poipu Resort area offers you numerous upscale dining and shopping opportunities.
Fifteen minutes to Port Allen marina, this is the starting point for the Na Pali Coast boat tours. Also nearby by, the Kauai Coffee Plantation offers taste testing and tours. There is also a public golf course that offers inexpensive golfing, in a historic hill top setting, offering challenging golf and fantastic vistas across the island.
But most of all, this former plantation community is a beach town.
You are guaranteed to have the driest and sunniest weather on the island each day, and access to 15+ miles of nearly deserted beach. Mornings are generally electric blue skies with light breezes. The sunsets are only seen from this part of the island, and they make for a memorable end to another day in paradise.
Come and visit for awhile, and you may find yourself wanting to stay forever. People fall in love with Kauai, and often come back every year, to spend their days by the sea in the sun and surf.
Why not give it a try? You can spend a week here, for the price of two nights at one of the resort hotels.
This is living....island style! Live Aloha!

My sister & I spent a wonderful week at Blue Lotus. It is a beautiful home, equipped with everything we needed. The decor is exquisite & it could not have been cleaner. Sitting on the lanai with a view of the ocean was exquisite. When choosing this house, you must take into account the location. It is about a 45-min drive from it to the Poipu/Lihue area. But if that's not an issue for you, and you don't mind that there is no longer a beach across the street (Kekaha Beach has been washed away), then you will love this cottage.Recommended for: Age 55+, girls getaway.
Owner response: Aloha As a property manager yourself, I am thrilled that you found the house to be so perfect for your stay. Just this past week, we have seen almost 100' added to the depth of the beach, and it has moved about 1/4 mile down towards the cottage. We had 3 winters of El Nino weather, which did not restore the beach from the summer waves. It is less than a mile to the beginning of the 15 miles of sand going west. It is a bit of a drive to get out to the peace and quiet this part of the island has to offer, and the driest and sunniest part of the island. It is much better than the 1-2 hr. drive through traffic from the airport to get to the north shore. Thanks again for staying with us at Blue Lotus Cottage. Much Aloha

Morning coffee in hand, an ocean view in front of me.... and asking today's big question: A drive up Waimea canyon, a drive out to Polihale Beach, a short walk to the beach across the street, or just sit back, take in the view, look for whale spouts, and read a book? A very relaxing and enjoying vacation. The cottage itself was perfect: simple layout, nice furniture, well appointed kitchen(new dishware), comfortable bed..even a TV that was barely used. Newly air conditioned, though did not need it. WiFi made it easy to keep in touch with work and friends while I was in paradise. Each sunset was special; the milky way was visible at night, and even the children playing in the schoolyard were a welcome break from the usual crowds. For entertainment, many choices all within a short drive: Pt. Allen or the Grove for music; dinner at Pomodoro's (highly recommended), tour of the coffee plantation, walk old Hanapepe Town on Friday Art Night, and more.... Looking forward to coming back next year.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thank you for your wonderful comments about your stay at Blue Lotus Cottage. It is a great cottage, and it is always nice to hear the appreciation for our home. We hope to see you next year, as well as many years following. Aloha

From my arrival to my reluctant departure, Blue Lotus exceeded my expectations. Lots of beach equipment, a well appointed kitchen, and ocean view for breakfast on the lanai. I totally relaxed and walked either one of the nearby beaches, or one of the more remote beaches, each day. The highlight of the trip was an awesome helicopter flight to Niihau. It was a great chance to experience beautiful views of this remote island as well as look back at Kauai. We loved seeing the monk seals, and the pods of whales. I will be returning to this gem on a regular basis. Thanks, Scott, for making it a most memorable vacation.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: I am glad that you had such a great time at Blue Lotus Cottage. We hope to see you return soon. Aloha Scott

This property is better than advertised and offers a great value. Read on for a full report. As owners of "Top of the World", a VRBO West Yellowstone luxury mountain retreat, we can appreciate the tender loving care that goes into creating a special vacation home. Scott, the property manager, has done just that. What do we like most about listing 192798? 1) Spotless interior decor. It is upscale, modern and comfortable. 2) Air conditioning. Very little breeze makes it down into Kekaha and the West shore can be very warm. Also, at night with the windows closed and the air on, the chickens are less of a bother. 3) Outdoor hot shower. Why take a boring shower indoors when you can enjoy the great outdoors in a quiet and secluded back yard? 4} Gourmet kitchen. The cooking area is open and large. The utensils are numerous and first class. The organization of the drawers and cabinets are so user friendly. 5) Location. The house is located in a super quiet tourist-free true Hawaiian neighborhood with a nice view of the ocean and waves. This house is one block off the noisy and potentially dangerous main highway that separates most of the "oceanfront" rental properties from the beach. 6) Bed. The master bed and mattress are extremely comfortable and there are plenty of big pillows. 7) Linens and towels. Nothing but top-shelf items here. 8) Convenience. Why pay triple the price to stay in Poipu with the crowds when you can drive to many spectacular beaches in less that 30 minutes? 9) Price. This house competes quite favorably in price and amenities with other properties in the area. 10) Sandy beach entrance into the ocean. Almost two miles of beach have been eroded in front of the majority of homes in Kekaha. All that is left is a lava boulder jetty that prevents beach access. Fortunately, the only sandy beach covering the rocks sits right in front of this cottage. This may change in the future but for right now it is a big advantage. Any recommendations to the manager? Install a reverse osmosis system to filter out chlorine and flouride provided by the public water system. Pray to mother nature to return the sand. Enjoy your stay in Paradise.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: I thank you so much for the review. It "clears the air" from a previous review that was unfortunate. We have spent a lot of time to make this an exceptional place to stay, and you certainly expressed your appreciation for our efforts. We are continuing with a new landscaping plan, which should be completed by the end of the month, that will complement the nice yard and landscaping that is currently there. Mahalo for your wonderful review of your stay!

The house was very clean, comfortable, and nicely decorated and only a short walk from a small, nice beach. It was a great location for exploring Waimea Canyon and Polihale Beach. I was briefly disappointed that the sand has eroded from Kekaha Beach Park, but a local gave me directions for a short drive to where the sandy beach starts about a mile further up the road. Unfortunately, the house next door had lots of bored dogs that yapped almost constantly on some days and evenings, preventing me from sitting on the lanai to listen to the sounds of the ocean. (Without this issue my rating would have been Excellent.) Scott was able to move me into another house upon my request. Thank you, Scott!Owner response: It was unfortunate that the guest felt it necessary to move. The caring neighbor had rescued a litter of Tibetan Spaniels (small dog) and was trying to deal with having 10 dogs. They would bark when people would walk by. We have built up the stockade fence so that the dogs could not see people on the lanai. However, the neighbor has since found homes for the litter, but it did not happen until after the guest had been relocated. Just a the guest had indicated, it is a very nice and well furnished house with a wide view of the ocean

Aloha Scott, The house was simply excellent. Everything worked, very nice design, almost too good and well equipped for only 2.5 persons! Perfect for 4-6 persons: Spacious enough, 3 good bedrooms, lots of utensils etc. I did grilling every day. Very good set-up, and will be recommending the house for other families also. Owner info
Year Purchased: 2012
About the owner: We purchased the house, being from New York, looking for a warm and sunny place to spend some quiet time.
Why the Owner Chose Kekaha:
More sun and warmth. Less rain and humidity. Quiet and more old world Hawaii. Love the 15+ mile beach. This is the real Hawaii, not the one of resorts and expensive hotels.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Favorite thing to do is just walk out the front door, across the street to the beach, and grab a spot under palm trees slightly to the left and watch the ocean and sunsets. Love to sit out on the lanai and read. I like to cook fresh fish, among other things, and that's why I have such a well equipped kitchen. We have done most of the excursions and just like to relax at home mostly. But my favorite excursion is taking a catamaran up the Napali Coast.
