We will stay there again. Great views from a cozy environment with a beautifully open floor plan. It was well situated for access to both ends of the island and perfect for rain or sun. Seating nooks are well placed to enjoy all facets of the property. Lots of ceiling fans and a constant ocean breeze through screened windows/doors kept me quite comfortable in spite of my heat sensitivities. It really does have a very private feel. Even though you can see the cabin and house from the driveway, there is a good distance and all the main living areas (dining/living/bedroom/kitchen) open up to the other side otherwise known as the ocean and greenery. It was even better than we expected from photos they provide, particularly when you wake up to an amazing sunrise view from bed. Good coffee grinder, good blender, good selection of cooking implements, old washer/dryer worked fine, funky mystery light switches everywhere, a boombox with a small cd collection, some books including relatively recent guide books, misc beach supplies. Really, we were able to locate everything we tried to find and then some.

From the moment we got out of our car and walked into the cottage, my husband and I were truly in paradise! Peaceful, serene, relaxing, in union with nature, beautifully decorated with artistry and Hawaiian flavor. When you're looking for a place to get away from the hustle and bustle of a city or the daily grind, this is it! You wake up to the view of the ocean from your bedroom window and feel the trade winds throughout the day. There are lots of windows and it is bright and airy. You fall asleep with the sounds of crickets, geckos, and swaying palm trees. Words truly cannot express the joy we felt during our stay. This is exactly what we needed. We also picked coconuts and guava from the trees on the property. Avocados, oranges, and noni are also available, but weren't ripe yet while we were there - for next time. There was a well stocked kitchen and BBQ grill, so before you go grocery shopping, check out what's there first. Diana, the owner, was very easy to work with in booking our accommodations. Upon arrival, fresh flowers were bountiful and taking off our slippers and walking in the door felt like home. Having dogs of our own, we also enjoyed daily visits from their pet, Sissy. She, too, made us feel welcomed. We had the pleasure of meeting Diana. Don't forget to bring home some of their handmade soap and shampoo bars as well as some neem balms - all made from their farm. You feel the wonder of the land and Hawaiian spirit here. I highly recommend this Anahola Paradise to anyone who is looking to unwind, relax, and re-energize! Mahalo nui loa Diana! Until we meet again.

In search of much needed sun, warmth, rest, and relaxation - we found paradise on the Mahinani's. The 1 bedroom cottage was everything we were looking for - from the specular sunrises, ocean breezes, mountain views, beautiful native landscaping, quite and serene setting, and the wonderful hospitality of Diana and Don (and dog sissy!). We were looking to experience the real Kauai - away from all the developments - and we found it. Don and Diana shared their farm, their family, and their stories with us. Friendly, helpful, open, and good people! They were outstanding hosts and contributed to the wonderful experience. We enjoyed shopping at the local farmers markets and eating fresh limes, avocados and coconuts from trees right outside our door. We bought local and cooked at the cottage - with very few meals eaten out (we did enjoy Duane Ono's Burgers, Shrimp Station, Fish Market, and Food Trucks. The 1 bedroom cottage was delightful - cozy, clean, and fully stocked with everything you could ever need. We did not miss TV or WiFi. The Island has great 3G coverage - we had all the "access" we needed or wanted. The cottage is conveniently located - making travel to north or south easy. The roosters will get you up each morning - no alarm clocks needed. Our stay was the most restful vacation we have ever had -- just enjoying the beautiful location, the people, and the experience. We highly recommend -- you will not be disappointed. We are already planning our trip for next year.

What an absolutely wonderful place to spend a family vacation!! We stayed in the 1 bedroom cottage with our 8 month old baby- and we'll be back, hopefully to rent both cottages with family/friends! Sitting in the hammock was divine (this is for the 1 bedroom place only). The lawn is so big and peaceful with a view of the ocean in the distance (and a view of the mountains if you look behind the house). We even got coconuts from the trees and drank the water! We walked to Anahola beach, drove to Hanalei, and did a lot of relaxing right on the property. A great day adventure is to go south- get food at Koloa fish market and then go to Poipu to have a picnic and take a hike along the heritage trail and then go to Hanapepe for the Friday night art walk. Another big winner was snorkeling at Tunnels beach. Have fun- you won't regret staying here!

My husband and I had a wonderful honeymoon stay at this amazing cottage! We loved the ocean and mountain views, the cool breezes that kept the cottage cool, the yard and hammock, and the neighborhood dog, Sissy, who stopped by occasionally! Great BBQ pork at the farmer's market across the street, as well as burgers at Duane's. We didn't have a bad meal while on Kauai and were even able to grill some local fish at the cottage a couple of nights. I would recommend this place to anyone! It is a great location for visting both the north and south sides of the island. Thanks Don and Diana for the wonderful stay and also the lovely soap from your farm that we bought as gifts to our family!

My husband and I visited this wonderful cottage last week. The cottage is cozy and peaceful. The pictures do not do it justice! We loved the use of the pots, pans, utensils, coffee, (and many etc, etc) and also the use of the beach chairs and cooler. Diana stopped by and was very kind. (And very easy to "deal with" leading up to the trip!) The location was perfect for us as we did many things on all the parts of the island: north- about 30 minutes away (hiked the 8 miles roundtrip to the waterfalls, went on a catamaran), east- a few minutes away (Kapa'a for food, Hawaiian ice, and airport), south- about 45 minutes away (beaches), west- 1 hour away (Kauai Coffee Plantation, driving the canyons). We also enjoyed the lime tree outside the door and the Anahola Farmers Market down the street. If we were ever visit Kauai again, there would be no place we'd rather stay then this cottage. Thank you, Don and Diana!

We have just completed our third three-week stay in the simple one bedroom small cottage at Mahinani’s Farm in Anahola on the beautiful Garden Island of Kaua`i. Don and Diana have once again shared with us their little corner of paradise. As before, we loaded up with groceries at Costco the first day so we were able to cook most of our means at home. Occasionally, we made runs to our old neighborhood favorites Anahola Farmers Market (for outstanding barbecued Kaua`i wild boar), Duane’s Ono Charburger (try Duane’s Special), or to the new Shrimp Station that just opened up last October in Kapa`a for Thai Shrimp (we used to have to drive an hour to Waimea). Our old friend Sissy the dog seemed to remember us and showed up every night and morning to “protect” us from the chickens coincidentally around meal time. We hooked up our wireless router from home to the DSL modem so that our iPhones and iPads worked even in the hammock out front. As we now head to the Lihue airport, we are already plotting our return trip next year.

Had such a great time at this adorable little cottage. A true Hawaiian experience. My husband and I are not "condo" people and found this gem perfect for what we were wanting in a vacation. The grounds are so well manicured, location was perfect for getting around the island, kitchen was well stocked, no cable TV and loved it! Photos show exactly how the house looks...I miss it already! The famous Kauai roosters never let us miss a sunrise! We hope to be able to come back to this special spot some day. Thank you for sharing your cozy cottage!

Living in the north I longed for warm sunny waters of Hawaii. I knew which island but not where to stay and being my husbands first trip to Kauai, I wanted this place to be worth every penny. Searching for a safe, comfortable and clean place to spend our honeymoon I came upon this listing and was intrigued. When we got to the cabin we decided that we had made it to our second home. Our stay was far from resort area and we loved it. You can hear the ocean, see the stars, smell the plumeria, taste the limes, and feel the stress melt away. The place feels like a private sanctuary in the middle of nowhere. The one bedroom cottage is big enough to spread out. The kitchen is fully stocked with all the dishes you need and we were SOOOO happy to have the use of a cooler to keep us out at the beach all day long. There was even coconuts in the yard and Diana told us how to open them! So much fun. I don't think much could improve that place for us except maybe more time! My husband and I are already making plans to return...soon!

Thank you for another blissful three weeks. It felt so nice to return to our familiar cottage on the farm. Island paralysis quickly took over. We look forward to our return. For those that follow, don't miss the pie in Old Hanapepe Town and the Shrimp Station in Waimea. Don & Diana - Mahalo Nui.
