IMPORTANT NOTE: Our property sits on the stretch of the Guadalupe River that is OUTSIDE the city limits of New Braunfels, between Canyon Dam and the low water bridge in Gruene, so you can enjoy your time on the river WITHOUT the city’s more restrictive policies on disposable beverage containers, cooler sizes, etc.

Gruene Oaks Lodge is laid out in a 'family-style' floorplan, and sits on the hottest, most popular stretch of the Guadalupe River... only ONE mile upstream from the low water bridge in historic Gruene, TX! That’s ONE minute by car, TEN minutes by foot, or 90 minutes by toob or raft to the heart of Gruene and all it has to offer any and all age and interest groups. And, it's the ideal spot for any kind of vacation you're looking for!

LOOKING FOR A ROMANTIC GETAWAY IN ANY SEASON?
Gruene Oaks Lodge is the perfect place to reunite with a small group of family, old friends or for a company retreat. This is not your typical, musty-smelling, rode-hard-and-put-up-wet “river rental” that has flooded more than once and seen its better days. Our home sits well above the 100-year flood plain, yet still allows for access to the river by foot. It features top of the line cabinetry, countertops, appliances, flooring, furnishings, and fixtures. Our place is perfect for a completely indoor retreat, with beautiful picture windows giving you a view of nature, but the privacy that you crave. Get away from it all, then come back to home and work refreshed and ready for anything!

LOOKING FOR WATER ADVENTURES IN ANY SEASON?
With full and private access to the Guadalupe River, Gruene Oaks Lodge guests can experience various water sports easily, some even in what we Texans like to call “winter”; toob, raft, kayak, canoe, swim, or fish from our convenient floating pier. And because two of the best river equipment rental companies are right around the corner (Rockin’ R River Rides and Gruene River Co.), renting from them assures you that you have the exact type of equipment that you prefer, and that it will be well-maintained and safe for your river adventures. Float for just about 90 minutes to Gruene from our back yard with this exclusive access, or enter the water further upstream with the general public for a 4-8 hour float, depending on water levels…then get out right in your backyard, going straight up to a hot shower! If you’d rather just relax and sit on the river bank and watch the river revelers, our riverbank is set up for a great day of cooking out, roasting marshmallows over a bonfire, fishing and people-watching off the pier, or just sunbathing and playing a little Frisbee.
Or, if you’re more of a “chlorinated-water” kind of person, the best water adventure park in the COUNTRY is a 5-minute drive away…Schlitterbahn!!! Nuff said…

LOOKING FOR SOCIAL, FOOD, SHOPPING, LIVE MUSIC, AND HISTORIC ADVENTURES IN ANY SEASON?
If you MUST leave this amazing Shangri-La property during your vaycay, Gruene is full of fun things to do year-round; live music at Gruene Hall, the Oldest Dance Hall in Texas; great food at The Gristmill Restaurant; shopping nirvana at a seemingly endless choice of quaint, regional shops to satisfy your shopping habit; and historic tours to find out more about Texas’ heritage.

LOOKING FOR A LITTLE BIT OF EVERYTHING?
A standard two-night stay will give you a nice little taste of Gruene, but if you want to make the most of your visit to this amazing Hill Country area, you’ll need more than the standard two-night stay, so come stay with us for as long as you can get away and experience all that Gruene has to offer!

We had a great 5 night stay. Property description and photos are accurate. Very clean and excellently maintained. The cottage was constructed around 2005. It is a solid structure made from quality materials. It is family owned, managed, and clearly maintained with care. This property was a great fit for our family of 4, our kids are in their early 20s. Larger or younger families or those wanting a full kitchen would be a better fit in the larger cabin on the same property. This is a great private location in a quiet neighborhood with the Guadalupe River in the back yard. Yet only five minutes from downtown Gruene and several river outfitters and ten minutes from downtown New Braunfels. We spent quiet mornings and evenings on the rivers edge, and afternoons rafting, toobing, and kayaking the river. River float traffic starts about noon or 1 pm and dwindles around 7 pm. There are many deer and other wildlife in the area. We were accompanied one day by a very young fawn that bed down by a rock outcrop in a neighboring yard. For bird watchers: by the rivers edge we saw a large barred owl, great blue heron, tri-colored heron, and yellow crowned night heron. We have taken getaways to the Greune / New Braunfels area many times over the past 30 years and found this to be a great choice for combining quiet peaceful time on the rivers edge in the morning/evening, river trips in the afternoon, and late evening dinners in Gruene or New Braunfels. I will definitely recommend this property to friends and relatives.

We just spent the most romantic and refreshing weekend at this property. Very well maintained. It was just what the doctor ordered. I would recommend this property to anyone needing to recharge and reconnect. Will definetly stay here again. Thank you to the owners for sharing this most special place. Nora & John

My husband and I booked the Cottage last minute for our Wedding Anniversary weekend. It was exactly what we were looking for. Michelle was very easy to work with. She provided us with all of the property rules upfront so that we were aware of how they function. Some renters wait until you're on-site to slap you with pages of restrictions. These rules may scare you at first, but rest assured that they are in place for a reason. The property is extremely well maintained and the rules are in place to make sure it stays that way. I can absolutely appreciate the amount of time and effort put into the details of this property. It was super clean and tastefully decorated. Definitely felt like a home away from home. For a complete weekend bring your bikes (many nearby trails to explore) , fishing poles and a raft/kayak to use right off the floating dock located just below the property. Thanks for sharing this home with us!!! We will be back!!!

We enjoyed a great short weekend at Gruene Oaks Lodge. Both houses are beautiful decorated and felt like your own home. The property is close to the water with lots of space. Despite a rainy day, we enjoyed the house and Gruene. The owner was very helpful with any issues.

This is our second year to stay at Gruene Oaks Lodge. Our favorite part is the riverfront property - the back view is of river and woods, so you feel like you're on a nature retreat. We had quiet morning devotions with the birds chirping and fish jumping in the river, and a lovely fresh-air inner on the patio. The houses were very clean and the decor feels luxurious without being overly formal or crowded. It feels like you "got away" from it all but is close enough to the Gruene shops that you can walk in 15-20 minutes. We have stayed in February both times, so it may feel busier in the summer when there is more river traffic. There are a lot of stairs, if that's an issue for you, and sometimes we wished for more water pressure, but it's a great place for girls' getaway or families.

Just returned from a great stay on the Guadeloupe river! The views from the decks are unbelievable! We had a large group of girls and the houses had everything we needed. We were even able to walk home after taking in a concert at Gruene Hall. Awesome place. The owner is so nice and easily accessible. I highly recommend staying here.

We stayed at the Gruene Oaks Lodge cottage recently with another couple. I should have read the previous 27 reviews more closely. Because two would have tipped me off to a potential problem. While we knew there was only one bathroom, we were not aware that the only bathroom was accessible only through the master bedroom. If you’re staying with your kids, or very close family, not an issue. Sneaking into your friends’ room at night to use the bathroom while they are sleeping, slightly awkward. And if you’re planning on bringing your computer or other Wi-Fi device instead of enjoying the scenery, service may be sporadic. The actual router is in a shed between the properties. So signal strength may be an issue. The location is close to town. I think each trip took less than five minutes. Ten minutes if you got caught behind one of the tubing (or is it toobing?) buses. And if you have allergies, it’s nice to know that no animal has ever been in the cottage. The cottage appears to have been recently remodeled with nice finishes. If it’s just the two of you and you don’t care about surfing the web, it’s the perfect spot. If you’re traveling with friends or planning to do some work, I would look into the cabin next door. It has two bathrooms and is closer to the shed.

Owner response: We appreciate the feedback! Pround to announce that we've remodeled and added a water closet on the ground floor of this cottage! The only shower is still in the upstairs bathroom, but now those middle-of-the-night "nature calls" will no longer require disturbing your roommates. We appreciate our guests' input and strive to make our place better and better each season!

While I have never been to New Braunfels after 40 years of living, I'll have to say that this place was very well maintained. Everything from the house itself to the grounds were in excellent shape. We drove in on Friday and arrived around 4:30pm and stayed till Sunday. However, I would like to caution if you are planning an adults only weekend. Upon arriving, within 30 minutes the police showed up and stated that there were people that did not belong there. We had notified the owner and told them that 3 autos would be there and that is exactly what we had. Come to find out the police were at the wrong place. Then the next day we had two other couples, with one auto, come by to meet up and all go to the river together and was notified by a text that there were 10 people there and that they needed to leave. After having a great time on the river we swam right to our dock and was home, which was nice. Shortly, after arriving from the river, the police showed up again while I was napping and stated that they had been called on that a woman was in trouble. My husband told them noone was in trouble and that I was napping inside. Later that evening, we received yet another text stating that since our party remained at the dock after we got off of the river, people watching, that we were being rude to the other property renters next door and needed to think of others. Secondly, we were told that we had autos on the other rental property's side, which was ludicruis being two of the three autos had not moved since we arrived on Friday and were all parked on the cabin's side. Lastly, we were reminded of check-out time and to follow the check-out procedures list. We did leave at 10:30am and followed the list to a T. When I booked this cabin I was advised that they had survellience, but that they did not watch it unless a problem was brought to their attention. However, just as a caution, that survellience is watched at all times. I almost felt as if I was treated like a 21 year old that was out of control, which was not the fact at all. So, hopefully, if you rent this place you keep all of that in mind. The place is extremely nice, but unfortunately, I probably will not stay here again. When I go on vacation, I like to leave any problems at home.

Owner response: One of the biggest risk factors for problems and damage to a rental property is overloading, or bringing more people than the maximum capacity, even if not sleeping over; the outdoor areas are shared with renters of our second house on the same lot, so bringing all of your friends to use the property as a jumping off point for the river or to party on the bank/pier is not fair to them, not to mention that the facilities in this unit are not designed to support larger gatherings. We enforce our maximum occupancy limit, as well as all of our other lease terms, diligently, regardless of the age of our renters. This is one of the reasons that we are able to keep our property in such excellent condition; because we refuse to give up on our preventative measures and enforcing the legal lease agreement terms that we and our renters agree to in writing. In addition, our vacation rental is, like most, in a residential neighborhood. Late-night, loud partying is not allowed, and is inconsiderate. Neighbors may call authorities to complain, and we have nothing to do with that, in most instances. With regard to any visits by the sheriff; many people are unaware if they are not familiar with Gruene/New Braunfels, but the Guadalupe River at the height of the summer season is a very "eventful" place; many people get injured shooting the rapids. The sheriff's department and local EMS and Fire Department work hard to manage these various calls and emergencies, and once in a while they might make a mistake like knocking on the wrong door trying to find an injured person who may not be able to clearly indicate their location. For that, we have no responsibility, so we're not sure how it would be appropriate to mention those events here. So, yes, we monitor our property closely by viewing recorded video footage of arrivals, various peak activity times, and departure. This is our way of insuring that the lease terms that we both have agreed to are being honored, checking only for major infractions, such as bringing too many people, pets, fireworks, getting on the roof, etc. (see lease for terms). Most adults easily avoid these issues, and as indicated by the overwhelmingly positive reviews on this page, the vast majority of our guests never hear a peep from us - because they never violate their lease agreement.

We absolutely loved our stay at this property. Everything about this cottage was tasteful, clean and welcoming. My husband and I needed to escape the pressures of real life for a few days and this beautiful spot on the Guadalupe was just the ticket. Also, the property owner/manager was extremely nice and very responsive. We would definitely stay here again!!

This place is amazing! My husband,3 kids, and I stayed here for only 2 nights. We were very sad to leave and cannot wait to go back! The cabin is so clean and private. The porch was awesome to enjoy a glass of wine after a day on the river. The floating dock was so much fun for the kids to swim and fish off of. The master bed was so comfortable. Michelle was also so helpful. We will be back soon.
