If you are lucky enough to be coming to Minneapolis when the "Inn Uptown" is available, make your reservation right now! Perfect location. Great host. Immaculate, fun interior with a retro feel. Thoughtful details like: water and OJ in the fridge, coffee, teas, fluffy towels, and wooden hangers. It's a gem.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Great location; close proximity to the Uptown area, restaurants, shopping, Lake Calhoun. Owners provide a comprehensive manual to the property, the area, and menus from various restaurants. A warm and charming home with privacy and quiet! Wonderful alternative to "the hotel stay". My wife and I were in Minneapolis to be with our son on his first Christmas away from home. We were extremely lucky to have fun the Inn Uptown for our stay. It was only blocks from our son, and it made it extremely easy to enjoy the Christmas holiday with him. The Inn itself was clean, warm and very comfortable. Kent was extremely nice upon our arrival, and was very informative on what was available to us in this location. The location is perfect. Only 1 1/2 blocks from Lake Calhoun, and about 2 blocks from many restaurants and shops in the wonderful Uptown district. My wife and I also used the bus and railway transportation to get to downtown and, eventually, the airport. The inn is in a great location, and is an extremely comfortable 'getaway'. We will definitely recommend the inn to all and will be returning sometime in 2013. Thank you Kent and Jill for sharing your wonderful Inn.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

This is a place that I would like to keep secret; just for us to stay at when we visit Minneapolis. Our daughter lives nearby, so the location in Uptown is not only perfect for us to visit, but it's convenient to the best restaurants and stores. The unit is clean, large, and perfectly appointed. While its a garden apartment, it is bright and well heated, including a gas fireplace if there is a slight chill (it was cold when we visited). Very private also. We also enjoyed Kent's wonderful collection of memorabilia.Recommended for: Age 55+, sightseeing.

We stayed at this studio for our quick weekend get-away. Decor is 50-60s funky, place immaculate. The neighborhood cannot be beat for access to the chain of lakes and great restaurants. Follow owner Kent's advice on restaurants and our recommendation for the Nicolai Fechin exhibit at the Museum of Russian Art (there through early Jan.) Even though we live 50 minutes away, I know we will be back. This was just too fun.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Everything about this place was great, from the ease of booking and corresponding with the owners, to the location, cleanliness and amenities. The room is bright and airy with a large bathroom and private entrance. I stayed for 3 nights and hardly heard the owners above. Kent and Jill thought of everything for their guests and this rental totally exceeded my expectations. I walked down to Lake Calhoun and rented a bike for the day at the boathouse kiosk and rode the trails connecting Calhoun with Lake Harriet and Lake of the Isles. It's a great ride and the trail system is easy to navigate and there is an adjoining pedestrian trail. Afterwards I walked up to jj's on the corner of Lake and sat on their patio with a glass of wine. When I return to the twin cities I will be booking the Inn Uptown again.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

This studio apartment was perfect for our 3 night stay. Private, immaculate, spacious, extremely well appointed, bright (even though it is a basement apartment), fun decor, private entrance, all kinds of things within walking distance, (dining, market, coffee shop, lakes, bike/boat rental), etc. The hosts were very helpful, and let us know that if we needed something in the apt., or something was not right, they would be there to meet our needs. We certainly hope to book our next stay in MInneapolis at Inn Uptown!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, tourists without a car.

Great neighborhood, lots to do within walking distance and right on the bus line. Clean room, comfy, soft sheets and towels. The juice, bars and water in the fridge was appreciated. Bed was a bit soft for me, I did have the extra topper on it, guess I like a firm mattress as my back was a little sore. Other than that, it was a super week.Recommended for: Age 55+, tourists without a car.
Owner response: Thanks for the great review, Gretchen. We're sorry to hear you found the bed a bit soft. All of our guests are offered the choice between our firm Queen mattress or the addition of our softer 3" Memory Foam Mattress Topper that you had. As I told you at check in, if there is ANYTHING you need to make your stay more comfortable, just let us know. Seriously, we mean it! We'd have been happy to remove the mattress topper if only you'd asked! Thanks again for staying with us. We hope to see you again the next time you visit Uptown Minneapolis. Kent & Jill

We loved this location! Even better, the room we rented was wonderful - modern, spacious and comfortable decor with many conveniences. The bed was comfortable. The owners (Ken and Jill) were incredibly accomodating and available yet gave us our privacy. They even set up a small sleeping area for our child. We were within seconds of amazing cafes, the lake and great shopping area (Barbettes and Local Motion). We will definitely stay there again and highly recommend the place to others.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with young children, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

My wife and I stayed here for 8 days during the summer in the midst of a 7 day heatwave. The room is very much a studio type apartment unit, which is quite roomy with everything you need for a short or long stay. AC was great too, as the room never was too warm even with the heatwave. Uptown is the perfect place to stay and unit allows you to walk to everything, which is great to avoid the parking hassles and DUI's. You are close to downtown, which is only a $10-15 cab ride, if you don't have a car or don't want worry about driving after a few drinks. Lake Calhoun is 2 blocks away which we walked around each morning for a little exercise. We did have a car because we were there for a wedding and needed to run many errands, but a car is really not necessary with everything so close. *** If you do drive parking tickets are $108, so be extra cautious where you park, as MN has many rules about corners and being with 30 feet. Kent and Jill pointed this out and we saw numerous cars with tickets on the windshields. We would stay here again in a second, as it's so much nicer than a hotel and in an area that is very trendy and unique for the midwest. Kent and Jill will do everything to accommodate your needs as a guest and it's completely private with a separate entrance.Recommended for: Age 55+, tourists without a car.

We are ex-Minnesotans who became expatriates. Since 2008 we live abroad. We still have deep roots in Minneapolis: family, friends, property. We could stay with family or friends, we are offered this option every time but they all live in the suburbs and then we would have to rent a car to go places. In 2009, when we started our annual Minneapolis visits we discovered Inn Uptown at VRBO and we were hooked! It feels like living in a resort, a few short blocks from lake Calhoon, where we walk at least once per day. It is a pedestrian friendly neighborhood lined with leafy trees. There is a bus stop a few blocks from Inn Uptown. By the bus we could go to the Southdale Mall, Mall of America, downtown. Two blocks away there are coffee shops, a bagel place, little restaurants, an upscale grocery store, and a "Victoria Secret" store - have to stock up there!!! "Kitchen Window" at the Calhoon square, is three blocks away, and a must place to shop! The apartment itself is part of the house with a separate entry. It is very functional and comfy and quickly feels like home away from home. I like the display of memorabilia there, my favorites are Beatles stuff. Leo admires the cowboy themed items. We stayed at Inn Uptown in 2009, 2010, 2011, and this year (2012) we came for my daughter's wedding in June. Kent and Jill usually respond to all our special requests favorably, thank you guys. We love your place! Keep up the excellent job you are doing! Liliya and Leo Quito, EcuadorRecommended for: Age 55+, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Overall I enjoyed my stay at Inn Uptown. The room is very bright and spacious (much more than the average double occupancy hotel room), and the location is excellent. The listing photos are very accurate. The room is also very private and far enough away from the main living area of the house that you can come and go and make noise and not worry about bothering anyone. Their rates don't include cleaning or linen service, but the bathroom was very well stocked and we had more than enough towels and linens for our 4 night stay. A couple of small things kept this from being a 5 star review, however. One thing to note is that guests do not have any real control over the air conditioning, the most you can do is uncover and open up the vents if you want more AC. I stayed in the middle of August, and while it got cool enough at night, it was pretty warm and humid during the daytime, even in the room. Also, you can hear people walking around upstairs, and the footsteps are pretty loud-- enough that it woke me up a few times in the morning. I bought some earplugs and didn't have any issues from then on, but its something to be aware of if you are a late/light sleeper. Additionally, even though the stated check out time was noon, we had Jill knocking on our door at 11am and rushing us out because they had another guest checking in that afternoon. While I understand that this was a tight turnaround for them, I didn't appreciate being hurried out at the last second with no notice. If they had asked us if we could be out early upon check in, or even a day in advance we could have planned our morning better and not felt hurried out. But all that having been said, I would still be happy to stay here again. The price is very reasonable for what you get in terms of space, location, and privacy, and there is a lot to do in Uptown and the lakes area, so its a much better place to stay than Bloomington or even Downtown.Recommended for: Age 55+, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thanks for the nice review, Kelly. We're sorry you felt as though you were being "hurried out" at 11:05 AM, but 11:00 AM is our published check out time, not noon (see your rental contract). With new guests arriving at 3:00 PM that same day, we need an 11:00 AM check out to allow enough time to thoroughly clean and detail the studio for our incoming guests. At check-in, we asked you to call us if you needed anything, and we meant it! We would have been happy to give you more A/C had you let us know it was too warm. We do everything possible to accommodate our guests if they just let us know what they need! Happy to hear you had an enjoyable stay and we hope you'll consider staying with us again the next time you visit Uptown, Minneapolis.

The Inn Uptown is in a wonderful location -- within a short walk of Lake Calhoun, gourmet restaurants, grocery stores, bus lines and bike trails. This was important since we had no car during our visit. The studio accommodates one or two people very well, and the owners were very hospitable and helpful. It was our home away from home while we visited relatives for a week in the Lake Calhoun area. We would definitely recommend the Inn Uptown to others who are more interested in being "out and about" than in preparing their own food or staying inside. But then who stays in a hotel room when you're visiting a city like Minneapolis?Recommended for: Age 55+, tourists without a car, sightseeing.

We had a super week at the Inn At Uptown! The location was awesome, as were the accomodations.Everything was super clean and well appointed. Kent and Jill were great hosts and anticipated all of our needs. Our kids were all jealous that we got to stay there, as the house is one of their favorites in the neighborhood!! Uptown is such a vital neighborhood and the nearby restaurants were excellent and fun. Despite being in the "middle of the action", the accomodations were extremely quiet and relaxing. Kent's collection of memorabilia provided a fun trip down memory lane!! Since we were in town for our daughter's wedding, we were on the go much of the time: I am looking forward to another visit to take advantage of the lakes, bike paths and many other attractions nearby. We stayed here for 2 weeks in July and found the unit even larger and more charming than it looked in the photos, extremely comfy, well-stocked as advertised, and everything neat as a pin. Even though it's "garden level", there's lots of morning sun. Nice and cool during hot weather, too. And talk about attentive, organized owners! When we told them that one of us liked our bed pillows a little plumper, there was a nice new plump one waiting for us when we returned from dinner that night. We loved the fantastic urban location with the lake so close and two movie theaters showing indie films nearby. Many great restaurants, too. Our favorites were Barbette, Lucia's Wine Bar and Bakery, Il Gato in Calhoun Square and Heidi's on Lyndale and Lake. We've stayed in vacation rentals in Paris and Manhattan, all in fab locations, but considering the quality of the units and their amenities, Inn Uptown was head and shoulders above the others we've rented. It gets our highest recommendation!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Nice location.....but essentially a windowless basement dungeon with creaky footsteps right above your head. Pass on this one folks.Owner response: We’ve had well over 100 guests and nothing but 5 Star rave reviews up until this interesting one. This review is so bizarre, it’s hard to know how to respond, so we’ll just stick to the facts. Our studio is EXACTLY as our pictures show. We’re baffled as to how this guest found our bright studio “dark and depressing”. Other guest reviews use words like stylish, spacious, bright, charming, fabulous, immaculate, fun décor, private, peaceful, quiet, lovely, classy, cozy, artsy, sunny, amazing, beautifully appointed, super alternative to a hotel, etc. to describe our unique accommodations. Even more baffling is this guest’s “windowless basement dungeon” comment. Although our listing clearly states (and our pictures clearly show) the studio is garden-level, we have much more window space than most hotel rooms, including the large 4’ x 5’ opening window as pictured, a full glass entry door, plus 2 other opening windows. Like many B&B’s, ours is in an older home; 110 years old as our listing describes. Yes, floors do occasionally creak in old houses and ours is no exception. If 99 guests find that a charming quirk, 1 guest is sure to be irritated. At no time during the check-in inspection of our studio, nor during their stay, did this “Disappointed” guest mention ANY complaints, let alone give us an opportunity to address them. It’s clear this guest’s expectations were not met, and also clear they were expecting something other than what our detailed listing, many pictures and numerous other guest reviews so accurately describe.

From initial arrival to reside @ the Inn-Uptown, the lodgng experience, is totally enjoyable. The condo unit is complete in every way, comfort, a peaceful & quiet setting, and very well located!! The bathroom (towels, etc), the bed (linens), the decor, reflect purposeful offering and thought. Perhaps the highlight, is the LoCaTion, near UpTown area, Mpls city lakes, dining and cultural options/events, lend itself to a multitude of options, which can be enjoyed. We would happily stay again ... even after the 17" snowstorm. It was quite an adventure, but Kent arranged for off-street parking and clear sidewalks. We could easily walk to restaurants and shops in Uptown and avoid driving.Recommended for: Sightseeing

Inn Uptown is a great place to stay if you want to be in walking distance of Uptown and Lake Calhoun. The location is wonderful! I loved the privacy, safety and reasonable rates. It was very comfortable and Kent and Jill had thought of every amenity. I would definitely recommend Inn Uptown to friends and relatives and plan to stay there again the next time I need a place to stay in the Twin Cities.Recommended for: Age 55+, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

I had the opportunity to stay at the Inn during a work trip. I wanted to experience a little more of the Minneapolis lifestyle than I could get from staying in a hotel. And because I didn't have to pay for parking and wifi it was a much better value! I had a great stay! There is a Whole Foods nearby so I stocked the small fridge. The bed was very comfortable and I loved the fireplace. I will plan to be back the next time business brings me to Minneapolis.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, sightseeing.

I travel to Minneapolis for business quite regularly. Normally I stay in one of the nice hotels downtown, but as an avid runner I always end up in Uptown to run the lakes and to play and eat in the best part of town. For these reasons, I selected the Inn Uptown for my stay and I will never stay anywhere else from now on when i go to Minneapolis!! It was a great house, great room, a block from Lake Calhoun, Bruegger's Bagels, Caribou Coffee and the best restaurants in town. The room was nicer and bigger than any hotel could provide and the neighborhood felt like I was staying in a storybook part of town. You will not be disappointed!! I am coming back next month!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

My husband and I have just returned from a wonderful stay in Inn Uptown's spacious Calhoun Studio. It was the perfect location from which to visit and entertain our two Minneapolis grandchildren -- walking distance to shops and eateries, and most importantly to Lake Calhoun where we could toss a football, swim, walk, roller blade and enjoy summer fun, even in the rain. The accommodations were gracious and comfortable -- beautifully appointed with everything we needed for breakfast or a snack, an afternoon snooze or a luxurious night's sleep after a full day of activities. Tasteful and charming, Inn Uptown is definitely a spot to which we would like to return. Kent and Jill are thoughtful and helpful inn keepers with an imaginative eye for detail. Yes, we will definitely pass the word on to others! C and PDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Immaculate. The room is well-thought-out, all the bedding and linens are comfortable. Lots of light, lots of privacy. The owners are very accommodating and gracious. A very fun, friendly place to stay for trips to the city to shop and hobnob.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, sightseeing.

I recently had the luxury of staying at Inn Uptown for ten days. Fabulous! I loved the ample storage space--closet, dresser drawers, bathroom vanity drawers--which allowed me to truly unpack and settle in. The fridge and microwave were ultra handy, and the food and beverage Kent & Jill stocked most appreciated--water, juice, granola bars, oatmeal. Two blocks from Lake Calhoun and the city's chain of lakes? Heaven. Walking distance from a host of restaurants, coffeehouses and bars? Let's just say I ate and drank well. A super alternative to a hotel in a can't-be-beat location.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Dear Kent and Jill: Our second stay at your Inn Uptown was even better than the first. We appreciate very much the upgrades you made to the apartment after our suggestions and as a result had a more enjoyable visit. The location is ideal as a starting point for hikes around the lakes and the area, where we enjoyed the architecture and the cozy bars and restaurants. We are already looking forward to our next visit.Did you find this review helpful? What a wonderful place you have - cozy, cute, lovely. I enjoyed the collection of memorabilia, the color scheme, and most of all the fireplace! Very nice touches throughout. Hope we have an opportunity to stay there again.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Larger than the pictures online (and why don't you take more of the beautiful bathroom, Ken?), immaculate, tasteful, and FUN, with Ken's 50's memorabilia and collectible toy cars in wall cases that really add to the ambiance. Golden, fluffy towels, juice and water in the refrigerator, a blow dryer in the drawer, a period dresser with plenty of drawer space, and scissors (yes!!) in the kitchenette drawer with the plastic flatware and other necessities, all with room to breathe. Honestly, it's like I planned it myself. An iron in the closet, along with an umbrella! I enjoyed the gas fireplace before it got too roasty, and spent some down-time watching movies on the big screen t.v. over it. Very nice. The nearby lake is beautiful, with gorgeous homes to feed the eyes while getting your exercise on (before heading out to have drinks and dance to The World's Most Dangerous Polka Band, I'm sure), and the local grocery and restaurants were but a block away ... and everyone so friendly. My in-town buddies took business cards after a tour so that they can have family and friends stay there instead of being squeezed into their homes. I'll be back, and I hope my stay brings you more well-deserved business. A new favorite spot!! Thank you for your Minneapolis hospitality.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

Dear Jill and Kent, We absolutely loved staying in your cosy, unique urban studio! The personal touches like fresh flowers and pumpkins decorating the window well made it especially appealing. It was wonderful to be able to walk for pleasure to the lakes and in the charming neighborhood and to restaurants, grocery store and shopping. Being as close as you are to the 'big' city was a plus. We will definitely come back ... and recommend to friends. Best wishesDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Thank you Kent and Jill for your hospitality! The studio was immaculate, cozy, comfortable and charming. Your refrigerator was generously stocked with all the necessary items to start our day. We had a great time patronizing the local restaurants and walking around lovely lake Calhoun. Thanks for the umbrella....big enough for two! We look forward to our next visit.
