This beautifully designed 4 bedroom, 2 1/2 bath home focuses on style and comfort not that you'll notice with a totally unobstructied view of the Pacific Ocean. A huge pool deck and stunning landscaping means you don't have to leave the house to enjoy the water. But, that would be a shame. Within minutes you could be on Ventanas, Pinuela, Tortuga, or Uvita beaches.
Enjoy a meal at home or visit one of Ojochal's famous restaurants.
Why Pick Casa Pajaro?
At 900 feet above sea level, Casa Pajaro offers totally unobstructed views of the Pacific Ocean featuring unparalleled sunsets. See the huge sandbar called the Whales Tale that is Playa Uvita from the terrace. Further up the coast provides views of Punta Dominical and on clear days Manuel Antonio.
Our villa has all of the design and style of a resort while maintaining the feel of a family home. The pool deck is beautifully landscaped with palm trees and tropical plants. There are three bedrooms, all with queen size beds, two bathrooms, two seating areas, an over sized outdoor terrace and a completely modern kitchen complete with granite counter tops, stainless steel appliances and a separate prep area.
Safety and ease of access is a primary concern for home renters. Our house has a security gate with an intercom and lights at street level. A paved driveway makes the ascent easy. There is parking for three vehicles.
About Casa Pajaro -
The house was completed in late 2007. Nestled on top of a hill, the tree lined backyard is home to countless birds, butterflies, sloth's and the occasional troop of Howler and White Faced Capuchin Monkeys.
The master bedroom has a magnificent view that makes getting out of bed hard to do. The over sized en-suite has a large shower with a rain shower head. Dual sinks give extra room and the closets allow for ample storage of personal items.
The main living room cupola has a beautifully illuminated 30 foot ceiling. A second outdoor seating area has a comfy couch and chair if you prefer some quiet time to read.
South and Central Art decorates the house with a primitive style featuring Boruca masks, Ecuadorian weavings, and Nicaraguan oil paintings combine with wooden geckos to bring surprise and delight.
Natural airflow allows for a beautiful breeze off the ocean during the day and the cooling air from the mountains at night. No air conditioning is needed but ample ceiling fans are outfitted in every room. The breezes are often so strong that candles will not stay lit on the covered terrace.
The pool is surrounded by tropical plants, palm trees and lounge chairs. It is a great place to sit out to watch the sun set over the Pacific or catch some sunshine. There is an outdoor shower with lots of privacy.
Why pick the Ojochal area?
The Southern Pacific zone is often referred to as the "Big Sur" of Costa Rica, with a coastal range featuring some of the most beautiful, virgin rain forests in the country. It is an enchanting oasis with beautiful beaches literally one after another. Playa Dominical, Playa Hermosa, Playa Uvita, Ballena National Marino Park, Playa Pinuela, and Playa Ventana. Each one is unique. For example, Ventana has sea caves that are passable at low tide.
The Ojochal / Ventanas area is 30 minutes south of Dominical. It is a four hour drive from San Jose and just 30 minutes north of the local airport of Palmar Sur (PMZ) . Quepos / Manuel Antonio is about one hour north of Casa Pajaro. Ojochal has many great restaurants and bars, lovely grocery stores in Uvita, wine store, and surf board rentals. The real reason to come to this part of Costa Rica though is to enjoy unspoiled beaches, nature at it's most pristine, and to kick back and disconnect.
The Tico Times, the weekly English language newspaper called the Southern Zone the last frontier. While that is true, you don’t have to give up the comforts of a resort just to enjoy the natural beauty of the area. A stay at Casa Pajaro gives you best of all worlds.
About the Southern Zone and Osa peninsula -
Welcome to the “The Most Biologically Intense Place on Earth” as deemed by National Geographic: the crème de la crème, the crown jewel, and the hidden treasure of Costa Rica, The Osa’s isolated location allows you to experience the protected rain forests of Corcovado National Park, immaculate beaches, and the mind-boggling scuba and snorkeling sanctuaries. It is home to 13 major ecosystems, 400 species of birds, 140 mammals, 116 amphibians and reptiles and 6,000 insects. Although much of Costa Rica is developed, you have reached the unspoiled Costa Rica of old.

Why the Owner Chose Ojochal
The southern Pacific coast is such a unique area of the world. Environmentalist have put this area as the top 20 in the world that should be protected. The jungle is amazing and sightings of both white face capuchin and howler monkeys are common. Not a day passes without hearing the trill of the toucan or squawk of the green parrots. This place is magical and our house is in the middle of it all.
The Unique Benefits at this House
Everyday will present a new sunset or light on the mountain is unique. The air currents from the ocean or mountain keep it nicely cooled. In the evenings candles won't stay lit on the terrace because of the breezes. While secluded, there are three other houses in the immediate area although only one can be seen below.
This is the perfect house for a lazy photographer. Birds, butterflies and monkeys are seen regularly from the terrace or pool deck. You don't have to hike to see a toucan. Simply top up your morning coffee, get your camera ready and shoot a few frames. Blue morphos waft by in the morning and hummingbirds are attracted by the bushes and flowers.
The neighborhood pizote makes appearances through the day and the monkeys call every morning and afternoon.
This is a magical place.
Lovely village with active Tico and exPat community. Fine and casual restaurants, supermarket, library, school, and Friday market at Citrus.
Owner's Map of Ojochal

While in Costa Rica Jan is busy with nature photography and a blog. We are both taking spanish classes.

We arrived at Casa Parajo on Monday evening after a long day of air and car travel. The house is tucked into a jungle hillside about 10 minutes off the highway. The road is well maintained and though we had 4 wheel drive, I only used it when going up the driveway. The homeowners "Jan and Ross" were their to greet us after a tough night drive thru a mean rainy season storm. Night driving not recommended if you get in late to San Jose or Liberia. Drive it the next day. Jan and Ross were very easy to work with, walked us thru the home and pointed out the details one needs before setting up a base camp in a new house for 9 days. Casa Pajaro is spacious, comfortable and modern. Great views from the pool, pool deck and huge deck off the kitchen. We camped on that deck every morning with coffee and every evening with a drink. The Kitchen had everything one needs and their are plenty of stores nearby to stock up with food if one wants to cook. We used the BBQ a couple times. 6 Adults fit comfortably into all rooms, we didn't really use the loft or back entertainment room as the deck kept us occupied. Every morning you wake up to Parrots and Toucans in the nearby trees. Howler monkees, Lizards, Frogs, Toads, Insects and much more were daily visitors. Though we were there in rainy season, the sun was abundant. The house is well situated to get to Sierpe, Drakes Bay, Cano Island, Dominical, Uvita and all points in between. We visited 3 different waterfalls, including the one in the town of Ojochal along with Nauyaca falls on horseback. Drove down to Sierpe and did a couple adventures out of that city. Visited the nearby beaches, surfed Playa Hermosa and visited Cano islands. The place was peaceful and its proximity to everything made the whole trip worthwhile. I would definitely recommend Casa Pajaro for families, adults and adventurers looking for great hosts, peaceful surroundings in a jungle environment and great views that stay in your head after you leave.
Owner response:Now this is a recommendation! WOW - thanks. We enjoyed sharing our jungle paradise with your family. Please come and visit again.

My family and I recently stayed at Casa Pajaro during a visit to the Ojochal area. What an outstanding home. The quality of the ocean and mountain views exeeded any view we have ever had on any vacation. Toucans and parrots are common visitors. Howler monkeys can be heard on a regular basis in the nearby trees. The outdoor dining area was remarkable. The patio and pool area was very nice and exceeded our expectations. The property was well maintained and the listing description was accurate. We found that the home and the views were even nicer than that reflected in the listing photos. The owner is available at check in to explain everything about the home and also answer any questions you may have about the area. The home is in a very safe community and also has a security gate. This is a great rental home for a just a couple on a get away or even a larger family. Jan and Ross are great people and will help in any way possible. We can't wait to go back!
Owner response:Thank you for your kind words. We hope that you return soon! Your stay was much too short.

Our family spend a week at this lovely house during our Costa Rican adventure and would highly recommend the house and the general area. There was lots to do - horseback riding, river eco-tour, zip-lining, diving, snorkeling, and of course beaches, beaches and more beaches. The bedrooms are spacious and comfortable and the master suite is luxurious. The kitchen is out of a magazine and well-equipped. We spent most of our house time on the covered deck, reading and enjoying the view - as well as al fresco dining. The kids loved the pool and searching for frogs and birds on the property. The challenge was the 4x4 drive in/out (<10 minutes) but the views, house and location made up for the bone-rattling. We especially appreciated the hospitality of the owners. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend this property to anyone looking for a peaceful, beautiful place to relax, with access to exciting local activities and yummy dining nearby.
Owner response:Thanks so much and we enjoyed your family. Your children are fascinating and I want to see their photos! We are glad you had a wonderful time. We just had the primary roads repaired and while not exactly smooth they are much better! Please come and visit us again.

We had 3 couples and it was fantastic. It was really neat in the morning listening to the Howler monkeys off on the distant hills and watching the parrots and toucans gather in the trees all around the house. Jan and Ross were great at helping us decide what we needed to see in our short time there. The house is beautiful and the view is as better the the pictures. We were there during the green months (rainy season) but we knew that going into it. It never slowed us down though. We followed Jan's recommendations on a few outings and had a great time. We loved the Sierpe River Boat tour and were able to see all kinds of wildlife. We ate at the place the tour leaves from, Las Vegas, and it was wonderful. We are looking forward to going back and being able to spend more time. Thanks for helping us have a WONDERFUL little getaway!!
Owner response:Our brave adventurers! We're really glad that you came down and hope to see you on a repeat visit. Maybe not at the end of September this time?

Casa Pajaro's location on a mountain with a panoramic view of the ocean was everything promised and more. The beautifully designed pool and terrace provided day and night pleasure, lounging, eating and observing the remarkable wildlife. In one day, within feet of the house we observed a troop of howlers, toucans, parrots,a lounging pizote and a paca. The numerous butterflies including a Blue Morpho, added to the continual magic. How remarkable, that this private paradise was still within short driving distance to excellent restaurants, beaches and groceries. The owners provided a well organized informational packet and a very useful library of books about the wildlife and area. They were incredibly gracious in every aspect from booking to welcoming us to enjoy this beautiful retreat. We would highly, highly recommend this property.
Owner response:Thank you! We were so glad to have met you and are glad that your time at Casa Pajaro exceeded your expectations. Please hurry back for another visit.

It is often hard to put into words the way that I fell about something. I would like to say that once we got to Ross and Jan's home in Ojochal, there was no place else we wanted to be. The home is beautiful, modern and well equiped. The view is spectacular and the wild life and natural surrounding unforgetable. The area of Ojochal gives you a true feeling of what Costa Rica is really like. It's not commercial and touristy oriented. There are several quality/quaint restaurants in the area to eat and the activities that we wanted to explore were all convenient. Jan and Ross- you choice of a place to live makes us envious, and we want to thank you for sharing your home with us.
Owner response:Thanks so much! Ojochal is pretty great, isn't it. I'm glad that you got your slice of paradise. Hurry back!

My wife and I spent a wonderful week at Casa Pajaro. The property was great, the views were spectacular, and the owners were very helpful in making our stay enjoyable. We had a visit by monkeys one morning in the trees next to the pool and several beautiful toucans visited. I certainly would recommend this property to my friends and relatives. The area has several great restaurants, great beaches, a farmers market and a wide variety of friendly expatriates.

This is a fabulous villa in a gorgeous setting. All the photos in this site are true to life, if anything, they don’t really do it justice. The villa is attractively designed and well appointed. The views of ocean and mountains from all verandas and poolside are fantastic…. we could just sit and gaze at them for hours, as well as watching the resident wildlife. Because of their elevation, the pool and verandas are also very private and we appreciated the security of the remotely operated security gate….. nobody was going to come up the drive without us knowing. The growing town of Uvita with its choice of supermarkets, banks, etc, is only 20 minutes away. Ojochal is even closer at 10 minutes away. On this stretch of coast, much is made of overpriced Dominical, further to the North, but Dominical lacks the plethora of terrific little restaurants that the Ojochal area can boast. We think Casa Pajaro is perfectly located. Thanks, Jan and Ross, for sharing your beautiful villa with us, we had a fantastic stay. We will do it again and would recommend it to anyone.
Owner response:WOW - thank you so much for your kind words. We enjoyed having you in Casa Pajaro. Hurry back!
