Lymington cottage description

INTRODUCTION
A beautiful, historic 'Arts & Crafts' cottage in the New Forest National Park, in a rural spot just outside the coastal town of Lymington, with a beautiful, classic English cottage garden. Reputedly designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens in 1908, lovingly restored in 2008, and furnished with period antiques and artwork, including William Morris fabrics. The enclosed garden is a special feature of the cottage, maintained to a very high standard and providing a truly English cottage garden, with lovely flower beds, spectacular trees and mown lawns. The cosy West-facing summerhouse allows our guests to enjoy sunny evenings 'al fresco' for much of the year.

The rear garden includes parking for two cars, as well as another patio area and a herb patch. A converted detached garage provides an annexe offering valuable extra space, that is useful for games and hobbies, with its own WC. The annexe also contains the washing machine and separate tumble drier, so that you don't have to listen to this machinery at work in the main cottage.

About half of all guests are regular visitors to our cottage, so early booking is advisable. We offer generous discounts for couples, two-week stays, and car-free holidays. The minimum rental period is one week, with a Friday changeover.

OUR COTTAGE
Kings Huts is in a wonderful location beside Upper Pennington Common. Close to Lymington and the coast but also within the New Forest National Park. In a group of six semi-detached cottages arranged around lovely sunny yew-hedged gardens. The cottages are included on the official list of 'Treasures of Hampshire'.

Inside this cosy cottage antique furniture is combined with modern creature comforts, including heating in the quarry-tile floors of the bathroom and rear lobby, and central heating, to supplement the open fires in the lounge and dining room. The detached garage was converted to provide a large and bright hobbies room, with its own WC, and houses the cottage laundry facilities. We try to provide everything you need to get your stay ofF to an easy start. Your beds are made ready with Egyptian-cotton linen, and tea, coffee, and cake ensure that you can relax as soon as you arrive. Cotton bathrobes and towels add to the feeling of 'home from home'.

The kitchen is superbly equipped, with high quality utensils and units, so that you can enjoy wonderful meals in the atmospheric dining room. Equipment includes a Rangemaster range cooker with a selection of gas burners and electric ovens and separate grill, a Dualit toaster, and Miele dishwasher.

The cottage has two comfortable bedrooms; one double and one twin. Both have lovely views, either over the surrounding woods and fields or the garden.

The cottage is located about two hours away from central London by train or car, and about 90 minutes from Heathrow Airport. Southampton and Bournemouth airports are within 20 miles. Lymington has a regular ferry connection with Yarmouth on the Isle of Wight.

                          • Our cottage is in the New Forest National Park; an area of Southern England set aside as Royal hunting ground in 1079, and preserved for the nation ever since. It is, therefore, a very special place on this small and crowded island of Britain; home to a wide range of flora and fauna, and the famous New Forest ponies. The New Forest borders the South Coast, stretching almost from the port of Southampton to the sandy beaches of Bournemouth. The small town of Lymington itself is a famous yachting centre, and provides a ferry link to the Isle of Wight. The area of the Solent coast closest to the cottage is formed of historic salt pans (which provided Lymington's wealth in Georgian times), which are now an important nature reserve. ...moreless

Just left a great place ......felt like we stepped back in time with a charming cottage from early 1900's but with truely modern hosts. Met at the door with a hearty and warm welcome from T and V. They explained all the needed info on the house/cottage and gave us info on the local area pubs, restaurants, sights, and walking maps. We had a great time here at King's Hut and the parking space was great when we returned from long explorations of the area. Isle of Wight was great fun.....ferry, bus and people were great. Walking in the fields and hills was wonderful. Pubs were well worth the fun we had in each of them in the area. Overall a great experience here at King's Hut and our hosts were great.....really enjoyed the welcome package of wine, cheese, bread, eggs, cake, and cheer. Thanks T and V for a great experience to your wonderful place.....keep up the good work.

Tony was born in Hampshire and lives nearby in the village of Sway.

The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
King's Huts is in a tranquil, rural setting, but just minutes away from the bustling Georgian town of Lymington, the beaches of Christchurch Bay, and the many attractions of the New Forest. This historic cottage has been carefully and authentically restored, with many original features from when it was first built by Mrs King to house local agricultural workers.
