Do you want to experience the real Italian lifestyle of then and today - history and modern comfort? - then "Antica Magione" is
the place for you.
"Antica Magione" represents 700 years of Tuscan history and was completely renovated a few years ago , but the typical Tuscan structure of old oak beam ceilings and terracotto floors remained intentially untouched. Its elegantly furnished with beautiful antique pieces, some of them handpicked by the owners. its general setting is very comfortable.
The Villa is incorporated into the external, fortified walls of the ancient hamlet of Strove.
There is a circular road that runs around the outer hamlet's stone walls perimeter and it is quite because it is only used by hamlet inhabitants.
Crossing this road with your shoulders back to the Villa there is an iron gate that gives access to the 5000 sq. well-cared park area with its very private pool (7x14m), a building with shower and changing room, barbecue, its laurel hedges, its roses, its grapecoverd loggia and much more. inside this area there is also the parking. Olive groves, vineyards and fields surround the garden with views spacing from Monteriggioni to San Gimignano and the Chianti hills.
From here, facing the Villa, there is a chast-iron fence with gate which close the property off to estrangers - up a flight of stairs to the entrance of this ancient stone house with ground floor and top floor levels. A lovely patio with garden furnitures welcomes you - the perfect setting for a sun-flooded breakfast or a alfresco aperitif admiring the surrounding scenery.
Up some steps enter into reception area that may also serve as dining room and as a lounge. the L-shape room also houses the kitchen with 4flame gas stove, electric oven, large fridge/freezer combination, dishwasher, microwave, American and Italian coffeemaker, toaster, plenty of dishes and pots - it even has a kitchen fireplace.
The joining lounge area is equipped with various sofa, with satellite tv and dvd.
Stairs lead up to the upper floor sleeping area with its 4 well-sized bedrooms ( 2x 2single mattresses in 1 frame, 2x 2 twin beds) , all with en suite bathrooms ( shower box,wc, bidet). One of the bedrooms even has its own eagle nest type balcony - views from there are more then breathtaking. But not only from there views are particular - thanks to the large, airy windows you may admire the countryside at your feet from all bedrooms.
The very spacious living room still has its original monumental fireplace, large enough to burn entire logs in. Its decorated with the family's code of arms, as it was tradition.
On the same floor there is also a small laundry room with washing machine, iron-board and iron. There are also some rooms/kitchen that may on occasion be used by the owners only.
And if you want to join towns life , there is a door that opens onto an external flight of stairs that leads down to the hamlet little square.
All windows are fitted with mosquito screens.
The owners, that live in a villa's wing with a separate entrance, produce olive oil as well as Chianti red wine. Since they own a food specialty shop you may also buy some of the delicates from them.
In the Villa is also possible to have cooking class and Tuscan dinners in a very special atmosphere.
The hamlet of Strove offers a restaurant, a bar/coffee shop, a small food shop as well as a public telephone box. All within few steps reach.
The town of Colle di Val d'Elsa with all shops, facilities and 6 hole golf course is at approx. 6 km. Access to Siena-Florence freeway is at approximately 6 km on the way to go to Monteriggioni.
Other famous towns and cities such as Florence, Siena, Greve, Radda, Gaiole, as well as San Gimignano, Lucca, Pistoia, Arezzo are very close, some less then 1 hour by car. If you drive a bit more, you will find Cortona, Perugia or Pisa; even day trips by train or car to Rome, Milano or Venice are possible.
A bit history now: the villa is incorporated into the external, fortified walls of the ancient hamlet called Strove, dating back to an Etruscan settlement. Situated in the Chianti Colli Senesi hills, a "brother" to the Chianti Classico hills, and situated right next to the famous pilgrim road Via Francigena, it was later transformed into a Roman "castrum" and again served military functions in the medieval wars between Siena and Florence.
The walled fortress of Monteriggioni dominates the country-side and the hamlet of Strove was probably connected to the military machine of the Siena republic.
First historical mentions of Antica Magione dates to its destruction in the 14th century when it was a fortress in the Strove valley. After the decline of the Siena republic, was partly destroyed and at the beginning of the 17th century rebuild and totally renovated. all the internal parts and all the external prospects were transformed and enriched so it became a very elegant aristocratic family residence where contemporary poets and artists were hosted especially during summer season.
Between the end of 17th century and the beginning of the 19th century, there was a very strong deforestation. Farming became good business and the villa was converted into an estate with vast cultivated grounds. this transformation subsequently modified most parts of the internal and external aspects of Antica Magione
Thanks to the efforts of the current owners, the Giunti family, that bought the property in the 1800, the villa as returned to its origins as a medieval villa.
