A glorious beach and the spectacular Caribbean provide the backdrop for a dream vacation at The Haven at Cayman Kai. This lovely two bedroom, two bath sea lodge (which can sleep up to six) is located on the North Side of Grand Cayman, near Rum Point, away from the crowds and hustle of 7 Mile beach. The Haven is a peaceful, welcoming island experience that offers you a quiet place to regenerate your spirit or get closer to your loved ones!

You can cook your own meals in a fully equipped kitchen or dine at any of Cayman's wonderful restaurants. Swim with the Parrot Fish and snorkel through a shallow coral reef teeming with sea life. Relax and enjoy your favorite book on the inviting screened porch which overlooks the palm trees, the beach and the sea, or just feel the cool sea breezes as you share the moment with someone special.

Grand Cayman has some of the world's great adventures for snorkeling and scuba diving. The crystal-clear waters are home to one of the widest varieties of tropical fish and aquatic life found anywhere on earth.

Owner's Profile

Owner Description

Year Purchased: 1995

My husband Bob and I live in Minneapolis, Minnesota and married each other in 2005, after each of us had been widowed. So we are creating a new life together, which includes our time at the Haven, which we love.
Bob retired from AT and T and planned to spend his time golfing.
After I retired from my professional career I spent 1 1/2 years at a volunteer English teacher at a charity school in Vietnam.
Now we run a small non-profit organization that raises money for the school to continue to provide an education to children who are too poor to go to public school. It is challenging and rewarding work. Our organization is called Bridges to Learning, Inc. We've helped build a middle school and a new elementary school to replace the one I taught in.
Between us we have 10 grandchildren and a wonderful little dog named Fanny--who also loves the sand and the sea.

Why the Owner Chose Cayman Kai

I bought The Haven in 1995 because I had always wanted a place with a palm tree and a view of the sea. I am a long-time Scuba diver, so Cayman was the perfect place to indulge this passion. I also chose Cayman because it is a developed country and safe and the people are so nice.

The Unique Benefits of this Bungalow

The best thing for us when we're at The Haven is the chance to slow down, relax, read, swim, and minimize the activity in our lives. The water is spectacular and provides exercise and peace, so it is the place I love to spend my time. And snorkeling out by the shallow reef provides a quiet joy and excitement as I "commune with the fish". Invariably I see something I've never seen before, or say hello to "old friend" fish and sea life. It's just plain wonderful.

Heaven at the Haven

My family and I have been all over the Caribbean staying at 4 and 5 star resorts. This was our first time renting a house and I have to say that it was our best vacation by far. The Haven was lovley, well kept and had spectacular views of the Ocean. What a treat it was to wake up every morning and see the ocean out the bedroom doors. The snorkeling was fantastic and the beach was breathtaking. It was very private yet close to ammenities. We stayed at the Westin on Seven Mile Beach for our final night in the Caymans and all we could talk about was how we were so glad we decided not to stay there for the whole vacation. I will defenitly be back and would reccomend the Haven to anyone!

A quiet place on the beach

We stayed in early January and split our time between activities around the quiet part of the island and going into Georgetown, Seven Mile Beach and West Bay. It was our first trip to Grand Cayman, and by the end we thought we spent much to much time away from The Haven. There were many times where we would sit on the patio and not see another soul four hours. We snorkeled and swam in beautiful water without anyone else around. It was probably the most relaxing place I've ever been. Location was excellent The unit itself was amazing. The breeze moved through the unit. High ceilings created lovely spaces. Everything was clean and organized. But the best part of the whole unit is the back patio. There was a table, umbrella and comfortable chairs. Every morning we had a leisurely 2-3 hour breakfast while reading and enjoying the warm morning sun. Internet worked well. It wasn't fast enough to stream video well, but was great for email, downloading books and newspapers to ebooks and anything else you would really need. You will need a car, but so much of the island requires a car to explore anyway. You'll want one. Everything was grand!

The Haven

This is a wonderful place to stay. We've gone to the Cayman Islands for the past 7 years, each time staying in the Cayman Kai area. We usually make the trek to Georgetown once each trip to do some snorkeling at Smith's Cove and then have dinner on seven mile beach. But, that's about it for us, then it's back to the quiet side of the island. As for the Haven, my wife absolutely loved it for a number of reasons and we'll definitely stay again next year. For starters, it has two screened-in porches both with terrific views and nice breezes. Didn't think we would use the roadside porch, but we would switch back and forth depending on where the sun was shining and the wind was blowing. It was a nice option to have. It was just the two of us staying for the week, but we could have easily shared the place with another couple. Each bedroom and bath is separated by the living room and kitchen so there would have been plenty of privacy. As I said, I've stayed at a number of places in the area and this was by far the best deal. Very reasonably priced for what you get. There are 16 sea lodges in 2 diagonal rows of 8. They obviously built them that way for privacy. We were a little concerned going-in with the potential lack of privacy, but this wasn't the case at all. We went during the busy season and most of the sea lodges were not occupied. Even so, the Haven is located first in it's line of sea lodges and is very private. We had neighbors for part of the week, but they were hardly noticeable. As for the beach, it was great. Very nice sand, good entry points into the water. We were very lucky to have Southerly winds for a few days so the ocean was like a big lake. Had no issues with the way the Haven was maintained. Everything was very clean including the dishes and the pots and pans. The king size bed was very comfortable. The only complaints I might have would be the lack of TV reception, but not a big deal. All in all, the Haven is a terrific place to stay and we'll definitely be coming back.

We took our trip in middle June and were pleased to find such a quiet and calming place to stay. The view was fantastic and the ceiling fans kept us quite comfortable. We particularly loved the screened ocean view veranda, one for morning sun and one for afternoon sun on opposite sides of the house.. There was a wonderful ocean breeze and georgous sun rises! Cute decor!

Retreat

Date of Stay: 03/07/09 Review Submitted: 03/16/09

My husband and I just got back from a week stay at The Haven(March 14,2009) this is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the ocean at the same time. We spent much time on an almost always secluded beach and the rest in the ocean swimming out to the reef. Of course this was what we consider entertainment. The Haven had everything we needed and more. We didn't want to leave so we shopped at the grocery store and cooked our meals in. I was pleasantly surprised with the stocked pantry. There were spices and condiments already available for cooking. Of course if we didn't want to cook, There was Rum Point within walking distance, Rum Point has a beach bar during the day till about 6pm then there is an excellent restaurant next door serving till 10. We rented a car so we even went the few extra yards to the Kaibo Yacht Club where they have great burgers and drinks. The Haven is an end unit of six and another six units that match up in a V shape. We were happy that it was an end unit. No one on one side made it that much quieter. Never did we see another visitor unless we were on the front porch. The front porch is a screened in area with a roof(great to get out of the sun but still outside) with what we considered our breakfast nook. There's a patio set, tiled floor and internet access that my husband required for his daily update to his business. While out there to keep my husband company I opened all the wooden blinds and looked to the back porch (that kind of reminds me of a Florida Lanai) where the Sun was rising. Unbelievable views no matter where you were in the cottage. The way this cottage is situated you never really see another resident and definitely don't hear anyone. The Haven was pleasantly decorated. It was cool even though there was no air conditioning. This was a huge concern because my husband loves his air conditioning.....Safe and comfortable. Never felt we had to lock up when we were at beach but if you think you would, just bring a safety pin and keep the key with you on your bathing suit. We brought the lounge chairs to the beach on the first day and left them there till the day we left, so they were available the whole week right on the beach. We snorkeled, took morning walks, mid day beach strolls, and read books this is just what we needed. It's about 30 minutes to Seven Mile Beach for the Dance Clubs, Restaurants, If that's what you want just stay over there. We've done both and this side is the best!!!!!!

This is the place to go...

We spent our honeymoon at Cayman Kai and could not have dreamed up a more romantic or perfect place. The beach is so close (a few steps away), we went snorkeling multiple times per day because it was so easy and convenient. The sea life in front of the lodge is the best of the entire island. (We went snorkeling several other places on the island and they paled in comparison.) We felt so lucky to have this wonderful wildlife all to ourselves, right out our front door! The lodge itself is spotless, spacious and charming. Comfy bedding, books and a well stocked kitchen made for a wonderful home base as we explored the island. We saved a lot of money by cooking a few meals for ourselves. Rum Point is right around the corner, which is a great place for fun in the sun and a burger at noon. I really cannot say enough good things about this place. I would NEVER recommend that a person traveling to Cayman should stay on the seven mile strip. It is busy and hectic on that side of the island. Cayman Kai is the best of both worlds. You can easily travel to restaurants or other attractions during the day, but drink your morning coffee on the beach in your pajamas and sandals in the peace and quiet of this beautiful 'find'. We were there in the month of August and were worried about melting in the heat, but the ceiling fans and sea breezes kept us very comfortable. And by the way...the best nap I've ever had in my life was at Cayman Kai...on a rainy afternoon, curled up in the king size bed, with the shutters cracked open so I could hear the rain drops on the leaves of the palm trees and the ocean surf in the background. Pure heaven. This is the place to go. You don't need to look any further.

Jerri and Bob, The Haven was just what we hoped for: a quiet beach, snorkling out the back door, falling asleep to the sound of the ocean, reading on the back screened in patio and looking up to watch the ocean break against the coral reef, good resturants near by. We loved your comfortable and brightly decorated cottage that was indeed a haven--a wonderful break from a busy life.

My wife and I spent a rejuvenating week at Cayman Kai Sea Lodge last December, and we're eagerly anticipating our return. Located on Cayman's most-ecologically-natural North Shore, but within walking distance of all the amenities you could desire at Rum Point resort, this bright and elegantly appointed cabana-style condo sits steps from a gorgeous beach and abundant snorkeling and swimming. You can also sit and read with the sea in view from the spacious, screened patio-porch. The interior is brightly dressed in splashes of primary colors against seafoam-white walls. Louvered doors and windows on either side admit the reliable tropical breezes, so that even when you’re inside you're outside, if you'd like. For readers, it's all here, from J. M. Coatzee (Disgrace) to Marilyn Robinson (Housekeeping) to Ruth Rendell (An Unkindness of Ravens) and scores more in many genres...all I know is that I read 3 novels and 25 undergraduate research papers in a week, and I enjoyed them all. If that doesn't tell you how magical Cayman Kai is, I can only assume you've never read 25 undergraduate research papers. We hiked the beach, toured the island in our rental car, watched a submersion baptism while snorkeling at a southwest shore cove, and shopped in George Town. We also chatted with the owner of Chilsom's grocery, just up the shore road from Cayman Kai, about her ancestor who washed ashore off a reef-foundered Scottish ship in the mid-1800's. With her own granddaughter rapt beside, she speculated that her ancestor’s hard-earned regard for the sea chased him 4 miles inland, where he and his wife raised 11 children in the dense bush; their own children then making their way back out toward the shore, and this store. We're looking forward to returning this December when we’ll share all this wonder with our son and his girlfriend. My classes end later this year, so I'll just have the second half of that week with them, but I can't wait, and my students will be pleased that I'll spend even a few days with their papers at Cayman Kai Sea Lodge. Thanks Jeri-Lynn, Joe and Susan
