The Sundew Cabin is a remote cabin bordering the BWCA Wilderness Area. You will have complete privacy with NO neighbors, just deer, moose and wolves. The cabin and sauna are handcrafted with logs by the owner.
The cabin is rustic and cozy. It has propane lights, cooking and refrigeration. The toilet is a simple outhouse and bathing is done in a traditional Finnish steam sauna.
We provide a canoe and you can paddle and portage to many lakes surrounding the cabin.
The cabin is open during the winter also. It is fully insulated and has great back country cross country skiing.

Owner Description
Steve Lampman, a Rochester, Minnesota native and Liz Schendel, originally from St. Louis Park, Minnesota moved to Ely in the 1970s. They were drawn to the area because of the beautiful scenery, slow pace, friendly people, and the wonderful outdoor opportunities. In 1989 they began renting out remote log cabins hand crafted by Steve to provide peaceful getaways for others.
The Unique Benefits of this Cabin
Since the Sundew Cabin is located right on the edge of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area there are many unique outdoor activities right outside the cabin door. During the summer months we enjoy paddling, fishing, hiking, and relaxing outside. The winter provides good skiing and snowshoeing. It is common to glimpse moose, wolves, beavers, bears, many birds, and other animals all times of the year. Another great aspect of our cabin is that there are no telephones, TVs, internet, or any other technological distraction to interfere with exploring and family time.

My husband and I just returned from a week at the Sundew cabin over Thanksgiving. We could not have been more pleased with the accomodations. Having no electricity or plumbing was not an issue at all. It was a beautiful week with plenty of snow for us to hike and snowshoe. Steve and Liz had all the wood we would ever need. We loved having a fire in the stove and kept the sauna going every evening. If you have never bathed in a traditional sauna - it is a very relaxing and cleansing experience. We slept peacefully for 10 hours a nite! And the craftmanship of the cabin! Wow! The windows are big and beautiful and frame the landscape - a MAGNIFICENT landscape! Come to Ely and stay at the Sundew. You will not regret it!
