Within walking distance is Somes Sound, Somes Pond (swimming hole quite popular), Long Pond (kayaking, canoeing, swimming), & theatre (live performances). 20 minutes to Bar Harbor, Bass Harbor, Northeast Harbor & 5 miles from Southwest Harbor. Lots of biking, hiking, & beautiful spots to see all surround this warm, charming, family home. Previous renters tell of the strong feeling of love that overcomes them at the top of the stairs & throughout the cottage. The screen shed (attached to barn) is furnished with even a small refrigerator. The flower gardens offer quiet pleasure as well.
Front entry leads to cozy kitchen w/counter seating for two. Formal dining room w/table that seats six comfortably. Living room furnished w/thoughtful mix of antiques and new pieces, both comfortable and inviting. Floors and wall are a mix of old and new, too, helping to update this historic home while maintaining its charm and character.

This was the perfect place for exploring Acadia National Park. We (two couples) went out every day discovering great beauty in Maine. And every night came 'home' to wonderful accommodations that had all the creature comforts we could hope for! It was really nice being able to sit outside and relax. The kitchen was well equipped and we stopped at Rats (great suggestion!) and arrived the first night with 5 lbs of clams and 2 lbs of mussels! Yummy!! Audrey and Ken were super...very friendly and helpful. This is the place to stay to visit one of our beautiful national parks...it feels good!!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, adventure seekers.
Owner response: Wow! Thank you folks! Am so happy you posted this review....when are you coming "home" again???!! Ken & Audrey

We have vacationed at Acadia about 20 times in the last 27 years. We stayed at the Cottage for two weeks and it was a great choice. It's fully equipped and then some. The barn was great for storage of all the bikes and other gear. Numerous markets are nearby for provisions, and a couple good restaurants too. The Cottage was great for our needs. We left early in the morning to hike, bike and whatever, to return in the evening to get ready for dinner. The place is equipped with all you need for your own lobster feasts. We did this several times. You have to follow the recommendations from the owner regarding local resources such as places to eat, where to get your fresh lobster, clams, mussels, etc. If you do, you'll get a real feel for the area, and you'll meet some friendly people too. The Cottage was equipped with everything we needed, even beach towels. The washer/dryer is large for doing loads of hiking/biking/swimming wash daily. The Cottage was everything as listed, it was great for us.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, adventure seekers.
Owner response: Al, Thanks so very much for your review! Makes us want to get up there ourselves! So, when are you coming back??!! Ken & Audrey
