This gorgeous South Seas Plantation Home is in the heart of the famous Kona coffee-growing region on the Big Island of Hawaii, and is truly a one-of-a-kind vacation rental opportunity. This is a very quiet, rural setting and the home has an incredible, unobstructed view of coffee orchards, the slopes of Mauna Loa volcano, and the blue Pacific Ocean.
The Plantation Home is the owner's home for Aloha Island Farms, which grows the Kona coffee made famous by Aloha Island Coffee Company. Experience total peace and quiet as the sun sets and you sip a mai tai on the lanai, overlooking the beautiful Pacific.
Set on the historic site of Maka Hiki, the ancient Hawaiian celebration of peace and reconciliation, this home is truly spectacular in every way. The home was built in 2005 and was designed to replicate the ultimate in a South Seas Planter's home. Decorated by an award-winning Hollywood set designer, the home evokes life in a Polynesian paradise.
Huge sliding glass doors recede into the walls, creating a complete indoor/outdoor living area. A large gourmet kitchen, with an incredible view, is a cook's dream. A top-of-the-line home theater and surround-sound system provides the perfect touch for evening entertaining.
Stroll down to the 16x40 pool, which is solar heated to 80-plus degrees for year-round swimming pleasure.
This home is perfect for two adults or two couples who want total privacy, peace and quiet. It is also ideal for the individual who wants to retreat from the world, write a novel, paint pictures, photograph nature, or just commune with life. There is a queen-size Tempurpedic bed in the master bedroom, and a comfortable, high-quality queen-size bed in the guest bedroom.

We would highly recommend the Plantation Home for anyone looking for a private, luxurious and very relaxing Hawaiian getaway. The property is located in a perfect area and is both well appointed and clean. This is a great place to lounge as well as a great 'base camp' spot for seeing the rest of the island. As mentioned in other reviews, the photos and descriptions do not fully capture the beauty of the home and grounds. This can only be experienced by staying at the home and seeing those great sunrises....and for this reason we will be returning next year. Thanks again for opening your home.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.

This place is really unbelievable. It's decorated in chic South Seas plantation style. At 1000 feet up the view is spectacular, especially from the lanai which is enormous and has three living areas to it. Loved the rock shower and the pool. Everything is very private and quiet. Lovely landscaping and kitchen. We have travelled extensively to the islands and internationally. I would put this in our top five lodging experiences. We can't recommend it enough.Recommended for: Age 55+, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.

After a week in a renowned resort hotel on Maui right on the beach, we arrived at the Plantation Home for our second week. What an uplifting contrast! Peace and quiet all day long, spectacular views in an awesome natural setting, a well-kept large lap pool all to ourselves, utmost privacy, super-size windows and sliding glass doors from every room providing magnificent views toward the ocean, the vastness of the distant mountain ranges, and into the tropical landscape of the estate. The house is very well equipped, with exceptional taste for decor and artistic detail. Truly one of a kind. Every bit of the experience of this property exceeds the well-written description in the VRBO listing. The pictures do not, and cannot even come close! Awesome 6-Star rental experience!Recommended for: Girls getaway, people with disabilities, age 55+, romantic getaway.

The pictures do not do this place justice! My husband and I spent a week of our honeymoon here. We were just awe struck when we got here. Hands down, a great place to stay. Jim was so easy to work with and made some great suggestions on local eateries and tips on the local area. Stay here, and you won't be disappointed! We can't wait to plan our next trip the Hawaii and stay here again!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway.

My bride and I stayed there for our honeymoon in November 2010. The property exceeded our expectations! The view is incredable and the pictures don't do it justice. The house is beautifully decorated with high quality furniture and fixtures. The outdoor shower is great! Very clean and all the amenities you will need. Look for the wild flock of turkeys on the property! If you are looking for quiet and luxury, this is the place! Jim was very helpful in giving us advise on what to do during our stay. Thanks again for the wonderful time we had at your house!Recommended for: Sightseeing, romantic getaway.

My wife and I stayed here 5 nights Dec 31 through Jan 5th 2011. Great quiet location with tons of space to relax. The pictures really dont do it justice. Much nicer! There is a Choice Mart Grocery very close with everything you need and the view of the ocean from the house is top notch. I have plenty of pics if anyone needs them. chris.schaffner@gmail.com We plan to return in August if Jim will have us!!Recommended for: Girls getaway, people with disabilities, families with young children, sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.

I wrote a review last fall, but did not get posted. The house is better than the pictures. It was beautiful and the most relaxing Hawaiian vacation our family had ever been on. My son is in a wheelchair so the house worked out perfectly. I can't wait to visit again. It is 5 star accommodations with a very reasonable weekly rate. All in all...perfect!Recommended for: Girls getaway, people with disabilities, sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.

My husband and I stayed here the first week of February 2009. This place is a slice of heaven! We have stayed at many vacation rentals in both North America and Europe, and this is defintely one of the nicest. It is quiet, private and well-appointed, and the owners were most gracious and helpful. I cannot recommend this place highly enough. Please feel free to e-mail me if you have any questions.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2

Location
Owner info
Year Purchased: 2005
About the owner: After searching the Kona area for more than a year, we bought this 5.2-acre parcel as undeveloped land in 2000. The property is located about a half-mile from the shoreline at an elevation of 1,000 feet (no need for air conditioning at this level), and has incredible ocean and mountain views. Access is very easy on a private, paved road. The property is 11 miles from Kailua-Kona, the largest town on the Kona side of the Big Island. The Plantation Home was built in 2005.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
The property is peaceful and quiet, an escape from the busy world. The Kealakekua Bay shoreline is about 15 minutes away, where swimming, kayaking, and snorkeling are exceptional in this marine-life preserve. The nearest supermarket is only two miles away, and there are several excellent restaurants nearby. South Point, the southern-most point in the U.S. (yes, it's further south than Key West!) is about an hour's drive, and is near the quaint, picturesque little village of Naalehu. Hawaiian Volcanoes National Park, home of the famous Kilauea volcano which has been erupting since 1983, is about 90 miles away.
