Southern Maputaland - Located on 80 kms of pristine fine sandy white beach, perched on the edge of a sand dune 100 meters from the sea . The house is in an exclusive, secure 24/7, gated, private estate with 14 houses and a 7 tent luxury tented camp called "Tartaruga. It is located in a small estate. On the edge of an indigenous coastal forest, with dramatic sea views, this secluded, beautifully appointed, shabby chic beach house is the ideal place for ultimate peace and tranquility. Water temperatures range from a high of 28 degrees Celsius in summer to a low of 22 degrees in winter making this an ideal spot for all water activities all year round.
On the outskirts of our estate is the characteristic village of "Malongane" where the friendly local "Shangaan" community live. The village is made up mostly of small neat shacks known as "Baraccas" and a few small buildings, community centre, school and a church. Several "shabeen" bars are scattered throughout the small village where music can be heard day and night. You can also find small basic products "spasa" shops and Curios shops. On the Malongane point, 1 km away, is situated a small resort with a fully equipped dive camp and beach bar.
7 kms south of Malongane is the small town of Ponta Do'ouro. Here you can find several small typical "Portuguese" Afro colonial style restaurants and night clubs. Various shops and markets can be found here. Located at the point is a camping resort and additional diving and dolphin excursion centers.
North of Malongane you will find endless kilometers of pristine wilderness areas and beaches extending to the Southern Mozambique Elephant park, Santa Maria and Inhaca Island.
To the west we are bounded by a large expanse of rolling plains, lakes and grass lands where you will experience the most spectacular sunsets.
Just across the boarder in South Africa you can experience some of the most world renowned game parks and reserves. Durban airport being 4.5 hours away.
4 x 4 vehicles are a must in this area as access and touring with a two wheel drive vehicle is not possible.
This is a low risk malaria area but prophylactics may be taken. House owners generally prefer not to take any prophylactics and the use of repellant creams and sprays, particularly in summer, is recommended. All beds are nevertheless provided with mosquito nets. |
