There is king & queen size & twin beds in the 3 bedrooms and a queen available in the detached studio and one bedroom cottage. Year Purchased: 1938
We are truly a mom & pop business. Barney was born and raised in our home which was purchased by his parents in 1938. I joined the family in 1961 and we enjoyed raising our six children at this beautiful location. All our guests tell us how special our place is, what peace they feel here, and what a blessing it was to stay here. We are still here and look forward to meeting you.
The Unique Benefits of this House
We really enjoy having the beach right across the street as we often walk over to catch the morning sunrise and later go for a swim, snorkel, paddle or nice walk.

We stayed here for the month of February 2011 with our two young daughters. It was very easy to settle in and feel at home here. The 3 bedroom home was the perfect size to host our extended family for week-long visits; even with four adults and two children we still felt like we had more than enough room. The house is clean, bright and is stocked full of everything and more required for a month long stay. The house is located right across the street from the best beach access which was ideal for the kids. Barney and Maureen are wonderful host making you feel welcome and offering great advice. This was not our first visit to Hawaii, nor will it be our last, we will return to the Sonrise Cottage.
Recommended for:Romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, families with young children, families with teenagers.

We stayed in the three bedroom home for the month of December 2010. While this was not our first visit to Hawaii, it was by far the best! Barney and Maureen, the owners, quickly became friends; we shared many meals and swapped stories and testimonies. By opening their home to us, we were able to accomodate many friends during our month's stay and show them a side of Hawaii they may not have otherwise experienced. The property is well-kept, clean, bright and roomy with the beach a mere 30 steps away. The photos shown on this website quite accurately depict the rentals.......but they're even nicer in person. So many activities were local and easily accessed: hiking the pillbox trail, Mauniwili Falls, Makupuu light house trail and the trek to Kalapawai Market for morning coffee to name a few. Kayak and bicycle rentals are nearby; kayaking out to the Mokulua islands is a fun trip from the beach access right across from the house. Barney and Maureen told us of several local events - not to be missed! The Lanikai craft fair is held in Dec. and May and is brimming with local talent. Nearby Kalapawai market also hosts local jewelers, clothing and beach burgers in addition to their regular fare. Leaving Lanikai was tough...but as Barney said "we know the way back"! .
Recommended for:Romantic getaway, people with disabilities, sightseeing, adventure seekers, girls getaway, age 55+, families with young children, families with teenagers.

I stayed in the sweet Lanikai studio for one month and almost cried when it was time to come home. The location is perfect, its directly across the street from Lanikai beach. The beach is beautiful !! Barney and Reenie were fantastic host. We will be back Thanks for everything Laurie & Van
