Or go further and visit the "hot ponds", go snorkeling in the famous tide pools at Kapoho or hike to the lava ocean entry. Be sure to visit the Hilo Farmers Market for you fresh local produce. Come home and relax with a glass of wine from the Volcano Winery or have a wonderful dining experience in the village.
Have breakfast overlooking the crater at The Volcano House before you hike in the Park. With all the trails for every level of experience and ability there is something for everyone. The visitors center can give up to the minute reports on the volcano activity and lava flows.
